Flying Turns Update

What? Did you contaminate my car with a BMW part?
$120, Rob? Did you take care of all your holiday decorating needs at the Christmas Cottage? Personalized Jingle Bells for all!
I posted some pictures I took yesterday at http://www.pbase.com/jim_shaffer/ftc

^^ Nope, just a working carousel model (World's Fair collection) for my "toy room". It was a completely selfish purchase.
On a side note, it appears something else is new for 2007, and it sounds really cool!

A large version of the arcade game that was built near the Looper, has anyone tried it because it sounds pretty cool. I didn't want to create a topic about this but just curious.
I've seen those giant claw games before. I never tried one but they are impressive looking.
I see they moved the webcam again to a great new view of where the station will be built also they have some new videos on the site (but they don't open/play for some reason)

You have disturbed the forbidden temple, now-you-will-pay!!!

Hey everyone. I’ve been following along on the construction of Flying Turns for awhile now and was searching the web for information and came upon this thread. Lots of information here as well as some great pictures to view. I can’t wait for it to be finished; hopefully I can make it up there with my family. I’ve been showing some of my kids the pictures and they too are very excited, although they all seemed to be concerned that they’ll just fly off the track. LOL. I’m not as well versed about coasters as the enthusiasts here but I’m very excited about this project.

There seems to be some action at the top of the lift before the helix (?) today as viewed on the web cam. What they’re doing I’m not sure, maybe someone else can fill me in.

While looking at the pictures over the weekend I got to thinking about the ride and had a few questions; maybe someone here can help on the answers. As I mentioned before, I am pretty much a rollercoaster novice compared to others, so please excuse me if I’m asking simple/stupid questions. When taking a ride on this, I’m thinking that weight will play into how the train rides down the track and more importantly through the turns. So with that said, will it be better for more weight to be in the front or the back. I’m asking this because if the weight is in the front it would probably put you into the turn at a faster rate and therefore higher into the turn. But, if the weight is in the back it would probably give more of a whip action to the train, wouldn’t it? Another thing I thought about was how the cars will be connected to each other in the train. Will they be connected at a single point to each other or at multiple points? If there are connected at a single point, won’t that give the train more flexibility and more play then if there were multiple connections?

As I mentioned before, I’ve been looking on the web for info and pictures on Flying Turns and came across some interesting things. I’m not sure if the following link is one that I got from here or not but I thought these pictures were pretty cool. I especially like the last picture of the helix.

The website appears to be in Dutch so I have no idea what they’re saying but I thought that it was pretty cool that there’s interest halfway around the world about it.

The track on the 2nd lift is well underway and obvious on the first webcam. According to Coastin' Steve, the track on the main brake run is done. Lots of footers for the station are showing on both webcams, although today's rain seems to have made a mess of the area.

Looks like cement trucks are there today pouring the footers. Anyone have any idea on the progress of the helix, neither webcam shows it. With the main brake run done is the only thing remaining the run to the station?
On the helix, two layers of wood strips are started, none are finished. Aside from the run from the brakes to the station (which is done up to the bottom of the 3rd lift), and the station itself, the lift from the station to the helix isn't started yet. Also the transfer/work/storage track, which will run around the outside of the helix for some reason, isn't started, and it was hinted that it might be put in after the ride is open. (It's only expected to open with one train until they make sure there are no hidden problems with the train.)

Wow I guess we're looking at a Aug opening then!
Few more photos, if you wish -->

On the webcams today, it looks like that big trench they were digging between the station track footers made it back to the power shed, and they've started laying conduit.

When is the ride supposed to open?

Looks like a lot of fun.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

my mom went down just this past saturday and said she talked to the construction guy but did not say much just said it was coming along and he said yes. but from what it looks like from digging and stuff maybe that they are wiring the lift motors?? also another ? I just thought of ... i wonder if the flying turns will have a on-ride photo? (like the twister). well work is really coming along i hope and by the looks of it i am hoping its done in about a month / month 1/2 but we really dont know.

Whatever it is, it's obvious that it's running under the ride and I think it will need to be mostly complete, if not finished, before they start building that section of the ride.

I am pretty sure its conduit for the 3rd lift. The electricians were working on it when I was there Saturday.
