Say good bye too, Geuga Lakes Free Fall!

The pics were not on there 10 minutes ago, so I didn't know. It looks like Cedar Fair is wanting to get rid of all of their Intamin Free Falls.

That is the Demon Drop at Cedar Point. They are obsolete. Period.

They were obsolete ten years ago.

Obsolete? You betcha. Fun as hell? Hell yes!

Give me the old first generation free falls over the newer ones anyday. As I said before, there is something that I like about being strapped to a chair and being pushed out of a window.

Since it's forsale, get Knoebels on the phone right now! It would be a perfect fit there.

It woudl also fit in my backyard. Sadly, that thing is for sale CHEAPER than most 2000 sq. foot houses around here.

Hmm. Better talk my daughter into trying Demon Drop this year, then.

No great loss for CP---the ridership can't be particularly significant. I enjoy it, but I don't bother getting on unless I'm in the area and it's not first thing in the morning.

I haven't been on Great Adventure's ride in years, although I can't remember the last time it ran on a regular basis in years!

Sad, sad day.

I remember two hour waits at CP for that thing. And all the other usual Intamin trademarks, too...

I would hope that Great Adventure still keeps theirs. Just retrofit them with some magnetic brakes and they're good to go. The only ride that gave me that "holy **** I'm falling" feeling was SheiKra.

Perhaps... but honestly, I'd rather see any of those parks get a drop tower instead (except for Indiana Beach, which already has one). The Intamin Freefalls take up a lot of room and I'm sure they are maintenance headaches. If Cedar Fair is giving up on two of them, there must be a good reason.

Fun? Sure. But I think there are better alternatives out there.

I'm with Tina. I think we should strongly suggest to Camden Park to buy it. Maybe Cedar Point could donate it to the poor park pauper's fund?

I know IB has a double shot, but this type of ride would be a good fit for the park. I agree that there must be a good reason that CF is giving up Mr Hyde and Demon Drop. I wonder if GL will get a S&S tower unit next year.

The other main problem with Indiana Beach is, where would they put it?

What I find interesting is that among a bunch of enthusiasts (often known for love of 'tradition' and preserving rides for historical reasons), that these are so quickly being dismissed as obsolete.

Which is it? Should the old be replaced by the new or should these rides be preserved as testament to the progress the industry has made?

Actually I think they should be preserved. An old rackety Intamin drop and a S&S Tower can both live in harmony. Other than lack of popularity (or making room for something else) I can't see why CF is selling both.
