Most Original Layout

I would have to say that the most original coaster layouts I've seen all belong to wooden coasters, and all of them are at my home parks. First off is the Boss at SFStL. I've never seen a layout even similar to it. Next is the Legend at Holiday World, which is my #1 wooden coaster by the way. Last is the Raven, also at Holiday World. I've never ridden a wooden coaster that packs a punch like Raven's 2nd half. I love that ride, in case you didn't see my name.;)

Hmm... this is a tough call, but I'm going to go with Dragon Mountain closely followed by The Beast.

Before I had been to PKI, I thought, "Beast? Out-&-Back variation woodie? How original is THAT?"
Ride it once and you'll understand. With the predominance of the push-the-envelope mentality being expressed lately only in steel, the Beast's unique out, around, halfway-back, around, through, bank turn, out & return Woodie is still the most original layout. Many parks cannot afford the raw space that PKI uses for this ONE ride.
The Beast. There can be only two.
(Of course, I've not ridden them all...yet...)

Volcano: The Blast Coaster @ PKD. There is really nothing else to compare it with except maybe S:UE a little bit.

For wood, it's the Beast.

For steel, a couple come to mind. Raging Bull for a non looper and I will go out on a limb and say Batman Knight Flight for the looping variety. Of all the floorless coasters out there, BKF is the most compact as the others are more spread out and pretty much follow the same pattern. The first drop is unlike any B&M sit down and no other B&M has what we consider "the turn" above the entrance.

Anything inverted after the first Batman is really not that original. Personally, I think that most B&Ms are very similar in their order of elements. Dive drop, loop, cobra roll or immelman/dive loop, block, dive drop, flat spin, helix, end. Not that this is bad though, they are still amazing rides. Their hypers are ver orginal though. Crystal Beach Cyclone, MF, the first Premier spaghetti bowl are some of my favorites. Almost all of the CCIs are quite original because they contour to certain parks terrains. Also you can't forget the Thunderbolt! Remember, this was about originality, not how good these rides are so don't get mad at me.

I think the Incredible Hulk is original. No other coaster launches you into a zero-g roll, and S:ROS at SFNE is pretty original.

How about the Lightning Racer at Hershey Park? It has a totally convoluted track. It is completely unpredictable and leaves you guessing throughout the entire ride. I love how all of GCI coasters have this trait; and, besides Roar, all of their coasters are unique! LR is a really awesome coaster!

I think the only REAL original layouts are the ones that are designed for a specific terrain, because there is no way they can be duplicated. For example....The Beast, The Steel Phantom, etc...the ones that actually give you a ride experience - not just a thrill. *** This post was edited by SilverWinds on 2/26/2001. ***

Steel Phantom, Batman Knight Flight, Superman:The Escape, Dueling Dragon's and finally the Hulk. For wood it would be the Thunderbolt. Nobody will copy that classic John Miller/Andy Vettel(pardon my spelling) desighn.

Ghostrider has a good original layout.

Beast is the most original. Then Hulk, then Raging Bull.

usually B&M coasters start with a drop loop zero g roll then a trademark (cobra roll immelman etc)

hulk goes zero g roll THEN DROP then trademark then loop.

WHAT OTHER COASTER HAS AN INVERSION BEFORE A DROP?
(other boosting ones? hehehe)

sorry guys but i think your all wrong. Cornball express at indiana beach is going to have the most original layout. It is going to rock when it is open, it passes through the hurricane and other attractions not to mention you will have no clue where you at when you ride it because of its twisted design

I think that the Premier Ride spaggeti bowls aka Joker's Jinx and Poltergeist are untouchable.

I said CornBall Express too (up a little more in the topic). You are right, it passes thru Hoosier Hurricane numerous times, has a first-ever inverted steel structure on a woodie (over a docking area), passes straight over a building, has many times when it is over kiddy rides, it's lift hill makes an X with Hoosier Hurricane's, and much more! It's going to be quite an experience!

definately by far steel phantom. i have never seen a ride have its first drop curve like that to set up for another even bigger drop. and i love tat one overbanked turn that curls to its left.

Out of the coasters I've been on I would have to say Dueling Dragons. Very cool layouts.
