X OFFCIALLY Opening...Not a Lie. Dec 24'th!

Actually Legendary, they said late Spring. But I guess I'm a bit defensive because it's water under the bridge, can't go back. Just wanted to mention that no actual date was ever set. Hey, it's southern Cal, here it's very easy to get the seasons mixed up.  ;)

X......IS.....COMING!

Can we please stop arguing over "it didn't open on time" or "it was supposed to open..."  I don't know about the rest of you, but I could care less.  SFMM said "new for 2001" and the last time I checked it was still 2001 when the first season pass previews will go through.  They built two new rides this year, both will be open by the end, they are open(ing) by the end of the year.  And even more important, they are actually opening.  In my view, SFMM delivered 100%.  I never saw an announcement for opening date, so I am just fine for what we have.  Now, let's ride the bastard...

If you have an issue, tough.  Finals are over and I don't care!!!

Actually DWeaver, they said late spring for Deja Vu, not X. :)  At least that's what my brain is telling me at the moment.

Technicalities.

And Adam, you *couldn't* care less.  If you *could* care less, that means you really do care.  More technicalities. :)

Now, about riding that bastard...agreed!  Is this the first time SFMM is open during the week before Christmas and the week before New Years?

I went in 1998 and it was only open weekends.

Wow, I'm technical.

Hey Legendary, thanks for the correction.  I guess that completely trashes my post.  Oh well, like I said finals are over.  I'm beat.  To all of you about to ride X, I envy the hell out of you.  I will be there the weekend of January 15.  I just want to set the record straight, Good Job Magic Mountain.  And Thank You, Disney hasn't done anything for me in years.  You take care of us every year.  Happy Holidays everyone.
Hehe, I wasn't trying to trash your post Adam!  It's just a lot of people misuse that saying.

You'll get to ride X before myself.  I'll be there March 24.  That's way too long!

Can't wait to hear some trip reports from you guys, not to mention some amazing pics.

Raven-phile - Yeah, it's late, but what has the potnetial to be the most interesting coaster innovation in some time is finally here. And SF is offering a nice preview package to pass holders, which they didn't have to.

And that was more or less a joke about the "death to the Arrow dinosaurs" discussion from the "How you can help Arrow" thread from a couple days ago.

Can anyone confirm whether or not a 2002 season pass will be good at this event.  I will be going January 2 and 4 and had planned on buying a season pass.
I'll be there the 6th  with some of my ppls.  anyone else going that day???
I called the guest relations and asked if I purchased a season pass for 2002 if I could ride X during the preview and was told that it was only for the 2001 passholders, as they wanted to give them X as they had been saying all along.  But then I heard somebody on here say that a 2002 pass would let you on X for Jan. 1 through Jan. 4.  There is some confusion here, I would like to be cleared on this information.
Legendary, and AdamFrank :

in December of 2000, SFMM sent out a season pass renewal form. As part of the advertisment on the brochure was THREE new rides. DejaVu in EARLY spring and X in late SPRING. I live in Phoenix, but renewed my pass becuase of the THREE new rides. I have gone 3 times this year and canceled my final planned trip. Deja Vu was open the last time I went, Goliath Jr is too small for adults, and X still hasnt open. SFMM DID insinuate that ALL the new rides would be open BEFORE summer in an attempt to persuade me to buy a season pass. I did buy the pass and the rides were not open. There is absolutely NO WAY I can get out there between Christmas and New Years with such short notice. They DID NOT fulfil their part.

It's cool bro! ;)

I remember being shocked when the annoucement was made because they were advertising two prototypes to open Spring 2001 when no track had shown up, and VERY little work was being done. I could have predicted all this but had no idea neither coaster would open until Fall/Winter. I just happened to work at the park during this time and I remember the press releases. March for Deja Vu and May for X.  What were they thinking?

Forgive me for being skeptical, has anyone seen immediately recent test runs on X? I just want to know if they've cycled the new modified trains enough times without any problems to guarantee this opening date.

Jeff (that crazy webmaster guy) said in a recent forum (for the Arrow President Interview I think it is) that at that time, the new train had cycled over 1100 times.

This ride will be safe, Arrow have had very good safety records, despite some head banging. (knock on wood)

When you all talk of how many passholders have been left out in the cold all year, It makes more sense to why they are offering this incentive

X opens to the public on January 12.
2002 Season Passes are now on sale!

That isn't fair.. Can't it open to the public in December?

Not that I will be having a chance to ride this thing anytime soon, but seems to me that it's got too many moving parts and rotates on too many axis to be considered a safe design.  This thing looks fundamentally unsafe, and I hope that I am wrong, but I think they could have a major accident within the first year of operation.
JDB, I don't quite understand what you mean by "spins on too many axis" or "too many moving parts". I get the feeling your not too sure how X was designed. Can you give examples of what you mean?

JDB, I tend to think that standard portable amusement rides, such as the Zipper, spin on way too many axis. But they hold up just fine. This ride (X) is gonna be just fine too. If they were gonna open it without being absolutely positive that there would be no problems, it would have opened months ago.

I have called and ask if a 2002 season pass will be good at the event and they have said yes.
