Woodie for GADV in 2006

Yeah. The entire population of Ohio drove all the way to New Jersey to go ride the new coaster that's pretty similar to one they have!

The one and only Six Flags park they've ever remotely been in competition with is Six Flags Ohio...oh wait....they bought it!

And by the way, cars were lined up this last weekend.

Actually the cars lined up outside of Great Adventure were just part of a city traffic jam. The same cars were there during the off-season.

Down is the new up.
Actually cars usually line up at many Six Flags parks. It happens when you open 1 out of 10 toll booths.

Lets see who's woodie ends up higher on the wood tracked coaster poll in 2006.

Holiday Worlds or SFGADV's

Chuck, not knocking this Intamin at all, Just I believe a great coaster is being built at HW by people who know how to thrill.

Well people have complained for years that SFGadv needed another wooden coaster, and I've seen neither layout thus far, all I'll say is new wood is good wood, and I'm VERY interested to ride an Intamin record breaker. I just hope they don't add a loop to it or kill it with overly restrictive restraints.

Dweaver(who's very happy he put off trips to either park till next year!)

I bet removing those toll booths would really help the traffic ;)

I hope it isn't a record-breaker. Very few, if any record-breakers live up to the hype. Concentrate on building a good ride, not a record-breaking ride.

You're telling this to the company that thought Kingda Krap was a good idea?
No, I'm telling it to the universe as a whole and the people who still believe that only a record breaker is a good ride (and once it is no longer the record holder, isn't good anymore).
DWeaver, Im not knocking SFGADV getting a woodie at all. IMHO a Intamin is the best choice for them beings they are so crappy at maintaining stuff anyway. Gee a city of 21 million only a few miles away and they can't operate at capacity.

No wonder they arn't leading the seasonal parks in attendance.

And why isnt it? Yes it requires a more TLC than the average coaster, but when you have massive crowds on a tuesday during school time.....k'ching!!!!

Fate is the path of least resistance.

Yeah and if the coaster had only cost 8 million. All them visitors would probably be close to payng it off already, Not two years from now :)
And how much k'ching is it going to cost the park in the long-run (in addition to the wad they already blew building the thing)?

I can just hear the cash registers ringing from all those guests waiting six hours in a line they cannot get out of.

Great Adventure has so turned around in the past couple of years. Was MM ever as good as GAdv is now?

Above and Beyond.
I'd say SFMM was MUCH better. Pre Six FLags owership. Not as many coasters, but lots of coasters does not equal a great park (See SFMM now!)

I'm thinking a lot of parks were better before their Six Flags days... maybe not as many coasters but better operations and more attention to detail. Of course, that's just an assumption- I don't think I've ever been to a park before it was "flagged." Except SFNE, which was just as bad back then as it was now.
I went to Kentucky Kingdom before it was a Six Flags and this is the exception- they improved it! It was actually pretty controversial because of the accidents that kept getting the media's attention(Starchaser mostly). Six Flags cleaned up the place, did some painting, and added a few coasters over the years. Even in its condition now I would still say it's better than before. Chang did that alone(I enjoy it more than most)

If there is any record to be broken on SFGAdv new woody I would hope it's the steepness or some other abstract thing never done before- not height or speed. I do have to say though.. if SOB had only been constructed with prefab wooden rails it would be a fun ride. Not a great ride(there's no fixing that layout), but a fun & tolerable experience.

Anyone have a website with the announcement?

Kyle Says: Diamondback was a lot of fun! Made his first time at Kings Island worth it all!

Well, SF should really concentrate on getting KK working and ok all the way before they build another coaster, IMO.

Knoebels- 4/28

Kingda Ka has had many of its first few day glitches corrected. The ride is much more reliable now and runs for hours at a time without breakdowns. Its been shuting down every couple hours for a quick inspection, then reopening asap.

LOL...wow, several hours without a breakdown. That's now reliable! When it most every day without operational breakdowns and only requires regular nighttime work, then it will be reliable. (For reference, see just about every B&M ever built) *** Edited 6/3/2005 11:01:42 PM UTC by Peabody***
