Will CP go back to Beemers?

Ride of Steel's avatar
I was wondering, the past 3 coasters at CP have been Intamins. I realize that they were very impressed with the work Intamin did with MF, but WT and TDD have had some problems.

Now the same scenario goes for SFMM.

The past coasters, X, De'ja, Superman the Escape, have had some SERIOUS issues. Now they just got a beemer floorless, and of course the ride is up and running as scheduled.

Do you think Cedar Point will go back to B&M, considering the technical difficulties they've had with their Intamin coasters? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Intamin because of their daring and new innovations, but do you think that because of reliabilty concerns, that they will get B&Ms in the future instead of Intamin?

I think that CP and B&M will be reunited in the next few years... But that's my speculation.

Missing the Fallen:
King Cobra 1984-2001
The Bat 1981-1983

The reaosn B&M's tend to be reliable is that they have never pushed the envelope, technologically. They don't do tallest, fastest, weirdest. It's not their niche. Everything they've built has used essentially the same track and essentially the same lift... the only thing that changes are the cars. They didn't even want Universal to put a launch on Hulk, and had nothing to do with that aspect of the ride.

Will Cedar Point build another B&M? Sure. But they will also continue to patronize designers who are willing to push the envelope and give them things nobody's seen before. Even if that means spectacular frustration at times.

Yes, they have to because we all know about that 3 coaster contract they had.

(should I add some exclamation points and ones to show that I'm not being serious? I should.)

I honestly think the "unreliability" issue is being done into the dirt. One of the most unreliable, problem ridden rides of the last few years was X - yet no one ever questions if another will be built. Everyone just hopes for it. Intamin will will make more impulses and rocket coasters. (obviously not at CP, because they have one of each already)

Who knows who CP will go to next? Does it matter? As long as they keep delivering great rides I don't care who's making it.

Cedar Point will probably no doubt build another B&M sometime in the next 5 years. But, I really don't understand the constant comments about Wicket Twister and Top Thrill Dragster. They are both running fine right now. Twister only closes because of inclimate weather conditions lately and Dragster has been running smoothly for a little over a week now without any signs of major difficulties. Of course it has minor problems throughout the course of the day, but look at the technology that is being used. I say KEEP THE INTAMINS coming! Sure, they experience problems at first, but I think it is safe to say that Dragster is "A-OK" now. Problem causing or not, there is NO ride like it. I don't know if they can build a B&M that can match it.

Wow....impressive!

Considering how many problems it was having Moosh, that is impressive.

You had to edit a 6-word reply? Which one did you spell wrong? ;)

Sorry, but a $25 million coaster simply "running fine for a week" is nothing to get excited about, especially when it was down for about five.

No, Dawn, I've seen the plans, and it's much more ambitious...

Picture: 2 300-ft. tall Togo standups (like the awesome Shockwave at PKD) that duel and race (like the late, lamented Windjammer at Knotts) and feature the first appearance of the Togo features "flip-upside-down-and-half loop" (M.E.) and "hit-the-last-turn-way-too-fast" (Viper, SFGADV) on a standup. It's gonna be something, all right.

What would we do with *another* dawn....;)

Considering the condition of CP's stand-up, maybe they *should* look into relocating that Togo from PKI...:)

Actually, with B&M now having the flyer market basically to themselves, I wouldn't be at all surprised if CP got one fairly soon...

Unless Intamin gets into the flying niche, I definately think that CP would build a B&M flyer in the relatively near future. I can't see CP not building a flyer at some point and B&M would be the way to go for that as far as CP is concerned.

Agree with you, Mike. That seems to be the one slice o' pie that's missing at CP. Well, and good wood.

Rob-angry that Moosh stole his Drummond line.
