All you have to do is look at the cities these places are in. Magic Mountain is near LA, Great Adventure is near New York, Great America is near Chicago, and America is near DC. That explains it all, doesn't it? Oh no she didn't.-----------------

Shoot, the police in these cities can't even curb violence. You think some rent-a-cop at the amusement park making 8 bucks an hour is going to put his life on the line in a situation like palwine described?
I don't know about you, and I'm not going to name any socio-economic status or races either, but most at the parks I go to seem to fit in certain categories.
Besides, what can the parks do? The queues are wound around some densely packed areas. There is no way some employee is going to be able wiggle his way through to weed out every single line cutter. That would be cost prohibitive, and too major of an undertaking to be worthwhile.
When we are all in line, we are pretty much a self-governing society. There is no one enforcing the rules or patrolling besides us. Like Denzel said on Training Day, "Let the animals take care of themselves."
IMO, the best way to deal with line-jumping is PREVENTION....and there are two ways around this....
First, follow SFGAm's lead and have lovely metal chain link (a la Shockwave) to prevent the problem. Not exactly a good "look", Nouvelle Incarceration, but it does keep people in their line....
Second, a solution I tend to favor a bit more.....CAPACITY.....if the lines move quickly, people can't get in and out repeatedly while the queue sllllooowwwllllyyy shuffles along. To me, capacity resolves MANY park issues....vandalism, line-cutting, trash in the queues, poor guest attitudes, etc., etc. (and you get more rides!). Call me a cap-ho, 'cause the shoe fits.....

But that doesn't mean they just pack in it and give up does it? I don't even see most parks making an attempt anymore. Why not just remove all the signs and have a free for all then? I don't buy it.
It's not a matter of putting your life on the line, it's a matter of enforcing policy. I've never seen a ride op afraid to tell people they can't bring carry ons, no matter how hostile or what color they are. Same rules apply here. You line jump, and you are removed from the park, period.

Chicago, shady?? The only thing shady about Chicago are the trees in Grant Park on a sunny summer's day...

Yeah, but how do you weed the people out? Each day, hundreds, if not thousands of people line jump. How are you going to catch them all? And when they do get caught by the rent-a-cop, he might just get a good whoopin' like the brave guy in line did. Is that worth it?
It's up to the general public to help them out. Like I was saying, it's a self-governing society. Everyone has to chip in in order to create a pleasant atmosphere. If enough people gang up on some punks, they won't do it again.
That's all a part of it. Then again, don't expect the public to get involved if they know all the park is going to do is slap them on the wrist and release them into the park again, so that they have a chance retaliate.

I don't think location really affects it, it comes down to the employees and how they deal with problems.Looking at this thread, I don't see any Disney or Busch parks mentioned. These are the two big park chains that probably have the best staff reputation (for dealing with customers, keeping the park clean & family friendly, etc.).
have you ever been to disneyland? line jumping, horrible traffic control, lack of guest services people to speak to ...

I think the park with the most line jumping I have been to is SFMM. People just walking through the queue with no regard. mostly thugs who do it at SFMM.
Another park i have seen REALLY BAD line jumping at is the San Diego Wild Animal Park, although not a theme park it has a monorail and I witnessed hundreds of people get back in line after leaving it or catching up with friends. This made the queue over an hour (for an hour ride) but I did it too, well sort of. No one I was with wanted to wait in line so I set up a meeting time, but 1/2 way through the queue they entered. there were also a lot of legal smoking in the queue. It's suprising they worry more about Animals getting 2nd hand smoke than humans.
A park I have seen handle line Jumping really well is Knotts. On several occasions I have seen line Jumpers scoulded by ride ops and security gaurds. One time they let him on and then scoulded him really bad once he was pinned to the seat. When the ride op was done he started the ride, and called security to punish him once he got off the ride. Most of the line jumping done here is by Girls or little kids. Usually line jumping here only extends a few people into the queue before they reach their party. But still, I was in line before 80% of their party and they should just let me go ahead. Next time I see a line jumper I will definately tell for laughs and to get them out of line.
I went to Disney World (Orlando) in 1986... I was 7 and don't really remember it.
There is no way some employee is going to be able wiggle his way through to weed out every single line cutter.
We do it every day, and we are ALWAYS watching. NO line jumpers ride my ride. We have to watch employee gate jumpers, exit to entrance queue jumpers, Drop to Shot side jumpers, through the grass jumpers...and we catch everyone. And we kick them out of the line. It's something we're proud to do, because line jumpers should not have the privilege of riding. I consider that my third priority, following safety and keeping the guests who waited properly happy.
And when they do get caught by the rent-a-cop, he might just get a good whoopin' like the brave guy in line did.
I'm simply a ride-op, and we do confront the guests on this issue. I've been threatened, I've been told that I'd be "cut up" if I kicked someone out of line, and I've been told my family's going to miss me after they find me in the parking lot later that night. You know what? No cuts, and my family knows right where I'm at. I've been told countless times I'm going to get my @$$ kicked and I never have. There is no "putting your life on the line" to tell someone they've cut and must leave the line.

At sfgadv I was waiting on Nitro when this boy came in line with a pizza to meet his friend and he past most of the people and there was a security gaurd sitting on the high chairs and watched him and didn't say anything.
On this Jolly Roger crap next to Skull Mountain the line was empty so me and my cousin was walking up to the entrance it was only us 2 and 3 other people in the front we were walking and this boy came and was pushing past us and I was like yo you can't be skipping people like that and his father was quick to rush up and say no he was waiting online already. He probably left the line to give somthing to his dad and we didn't see him but that was real rude. I forgot about it since the line was empty.
But these non english ride ops had to deal with a lost child situation where he left the ride and his mom was supposed to meet him back there when he was finished. She didn't speak english either and they left us waiting on the ride for literally about 10 minutes before the ride start until they called everyone up and tried talking to the lady and then he came back.

SFGAm for me, though I haven't been to that many parks. Who cares if your group is ahead? If you wanted to ride so bad why didn't you stay with your group? Anyway, nothing huge when it comes to line jumping in my experiences.-----------------
