Which coaster lived up to its hype?

This is a border line "Favorite coaster" subject.

However... I would say Pheonix.

Again though, this is all subjective and only a matter of opinion... what some people call "living up to hype" others will not. for instance, IOA-Rules stated that Hulk and Dueling Dragons lived up to hype. Hulk may have, but Dragons certainly did not... in MY opinion.

There is no right or wrong answer here.

Magnum, Texas Giant, Raven, GhostRider, and my personal #1, Shivering Timbers. I also think Floorless coasters are quite a bit better than sitdown loopers, all seats not just the front.

"X" marks the spot in 2001!

I would say apollo;s chariot! lol I had no clue it existed until I got to BGW. BGW advertised alpie and drachen fire to death were I live about 3 hours west of BGW but apollo was never even wispered were I live. but alpie did live up to expectations.

Millennium Force, and Shivering Timbers both lived up to the hype in my book

I'd rather die living than live like I'm dead

This is a "Favorite" subject thread.

However, it is not whether it lived up to it's hype that is important or matters, it is whether it lived up to YOUR expectations that matters most. You may have expectations that are high up because of the hype or in spite of the hype.

I rode S:ROS at SFNE with no hype or expectations and I was blown away. I rode Talon not hearing any hype, just opinions from here, and had moderate expectations and again, I was very impressed.

I had high expectations of V2, partially because of hype, and while my experience was not up there with the hype, I enjoyed it.

I have also ridden rides that where hyped badly, but I had good expectations and enjoyed the ride, example is Hercules.
Enough rambling.

Any resemblance to living or
dead people is purely coincidental.

Well for this year I would have to say: X-Flight, Nitro and the HypersonicXLC were the best and in that order!

this is not a favorite thread . i think it is a very valid topic.
But anyway, for me it is goliath. i mean the thought of a coaster with no inversion sounded so dull to me. boy was i wrong what goliath lacked in inversions it made up in speed and intensity. so i would say goliath lived up to its hype

Yeah no kidding, but before this thread catches the duck sick.... one final thought...

Isn't this thread in essence adding to the hype of a coaster if someone that reads it HASN'T ridden it?  I'm not quite sure if that falls under irony, but...

I rode "X" and never went upside down.

I would have to say Cornball Express, Shivering Timbers, and Phantoms Revenge.  Millennium Force was close, but I still like Magnum a little better.

LOL!  I would like to think that this isn't a 'favorite' thread, because I was going to agree with Cmeisen and say Steel Dragon 2000.  It isn't my favorite coaster, nor is it close, but after all the hype about the worlds largest, fastest, etc.... I was more than blown away by the ride, elements, and deceptive speed.  It looks sooooo slow, but yet it races along, and gives you quite a buzz!

There is more...!

Yes, by adding to this thread we are adding to the hype. If the coaster STILL exceeds YOUR expectations, then It lived up to its hype(in your own eyes).

Millenium Force lived up the the hype, everything I expected.
Ghostrider, S:UE, and DejaVu Exceeded the hype. Even more than what I expected out of them. Especially GHOSTRIDER!

Superman Ride of Steel, Apollo's Chariot, Texas Giant, Ghostrider and many more. I think the ride that had less hype than it should, however, is Volcano! By far the best steel coaster I have been on.

Ah... which S:RoS? (Remember, we are talking about Six Flags here... those masters of originality when it comes to naming coasters.)

Phantoms revenge did not get all the hype it deserved!

Millenium Force didn't stand up to it's hype after my first ride but after I logged a few on that baby I started liking it more and more.

I thought Millennium Force and V2 did, I have yet to ride Deja Vu but im sure it will.  Cornball Express totally surprised me that was great, also when Batman came out at Great America it sure lived up to its hype, I still love that coaster.  My biggest disappointment was probally Mean Streak.
