Which 6 SF parks are getting new rides.

DawgByte, there's really no need to resort to name calling. I'm assuming your an adult from your profile. Try and act like it. You seem to be taking this waaaay too personally. Debating is one thing, and that's what people do on here. Who cares if he has a rebuttal to everything you say? No one is forcing you to respond. Ignore him if you have to, you don't always have to have the last word, you know.

Just some advice.

OMG I have a new sig!!!

Ohhh yea, the TOS. I guess I'm REQURED [sic] to put the "E" at the end of Premiere [sic] whenever I spell it.

No, actually, the ToS would dictate you DON'T put the "e" at the end of "Premier." Again, the ToS asks users to respect the English language when they post. But, of course, I didn't bring up the ToS when I was referring to your inability to properly spell "Premier." I was referring to all the other spelling errors in your post when I mentioned the ToS.

I guess it seems to spark a little irk in you, so Premiere [sic] Premiere [sic] Premiere! [sic]

It doesn't irritate me, but I do enjoy calling you on it.

You say potato, I say & spell potatoe [sic].

And you spell it incorrectly. You can't just create your own spelling rules. It's simply "potato."

Maybe I should start typing in L33T 5p3@k [sic]for your pleasure.

I have no idea what that means.

You just won't give up on this, will you?
No matter what I say, you have some sort of rebuttal for it...

Because what you say is often wrong and I like correcting you.

For your information VTBC, I'm not a freakin [sic] hippocrite [sic], I never dissed their flowers & landscaping. In fact, I've taken some great shots of SFDL & posted it around various sites for the public to see (Coasterbuzz included)... but that's the only redeeming value of that park.

And guess what? I never accused you of "dissing" their flowers and landscaping. Please try to keep up with the discussion. You dissed everything BUT the flowers. I called you a hypocrite because you call yourself a "Darien Lake fan," but then go on to say the park's only redeeming value is their flowers & landscaping. That doesn't sound like a comment a loyal fan would make.

How many amusement parks have complete dead ends to their mid-ways? Well... this is one of them that has two. One of them leads to Superman and then just ends.

Several parks have dead ends. Have you ever been to Six Flags America? The whole "Gotham City" area is a dead-end. What about Dorney Park? The Laser and Steel Force areas are both dead-ends. Have you ever ridden Excalibur at Valleyfair? Have you ever been to Busch Gardens Tampa and ridden Montu? Have you been to Toon Town at Disneyland? Have you been to Critter Country at Disneyland? Have you been to Disney/MGM studios? And probably the best example of all-- have you ever ridden Thunder Rapids at Lake Compounce? http://tinyurl.com/2e46a

All of these parks have dead-ends. And you know what? There are some very good, quality parks mentioned above. How does having a dead-end in the midway constitute a bad park?

I'm not going to waste my time quoting you over & over & over ad nausea... I'm assuming you got a lot of time on your hands because you keep quoting every little thing I say (most likely including this), and finding some kind of rebuttal for it...

Well, it takes me about 10 minutes to reply to your posts, so that really doesn't add up to a lot of time. I assume you have just as much time on your hands...

...but you're saying that PCW isn't even in the same LEAGUE as SFDL is. Fact is, a lot of Canadians come over the border, and with the sinking American dollar in the past year, it's only enticing more Canadians to take their buck to America. SFDL is advertised there as a much better deal than we get here, with more BOGO's, more 1/2 off, and more push than Wonderland sometimes. It doesn't matter if SFDL is in a city of 300,000 (oh, I'm sorry... I estimated too high... 299,999), it still uses the Toronto & Southern Ontario population as part of its target market.... along with areas as far south as Erie PA & Syracuse, NY. Why? It's the closest Six Flags in town, so they do have a very large target audience.

And the fact remains that Canada's Wonderland is a more convenient drive for the 4.6 million people in the greater-Toronto area. And you don't think Canada's Wonderland draws from the surrounding cities in Ontario? I mean, there are nearly a million people in the Kitchener-Waterloo-Barrie areas of Ontario (source: Government of Canada). Their target audience is much larger than SFDL's because there are more people CLOSER to the park. And like I said, I'm sure PCW loses business to SFDL, and I'm sure SFDL loses business to PCW. And I'm sure they share some guests as well. But there are several reasons why Canada's Wonderland has higher attendance that Six Flags Darien Lake, and those reasons don't necessarily have anything to do with the frequency of new capital.

You've really got to take your PMS, dude/dude-ette... because you can't think of anything NEW to say except find wrong on what I said in the previous post, and the rattle on & on until you've got a case of carpeltunnel [sic] syndrome.

Like I said, you're my target. If you stop posting incorrect information and illogical statements then I'll stop correcting you. I know I fight with venom, but that's just my style. Why do you get so worked up?

Hey! Just because I'm gay doesn't mean I don't enjoy sports. And while we're talking stereotypes: I don't have any Broadway show tunes memorized, I'm not that good at arranging flowers, and don't own a lot of shoes or wear designer clothes.

Now...who are the Chargers? ;)

I know *some* Broadway show tunes....

Do ya prefer somethng from Guys and Dolls, or something from 42nd Street.....eh, nevermind, NOBODY wants to hear me sing, not even me...;)

bill, uses no "product", otherwise a fine example of metrosexuality...

P.S. If your home park doesn't get anything year after year, and you're really *peeved* about that, move to a bigger metropolitan area...they get new rides more often, LOL...;)

Dawgbyte11 let's face it guys like Coasterdude13,whose local parks are spoiled year after year...or every other year don't know what it means to have a "neglected" park near them that they've got no other choice but to visit year after year because they lack the means to visit a better park.

Do you ever notice that SFAW is now on the neglected side of things?prior to the "merger"(I've had it with everyone saying we can't spell the company name anymore) SFAW used to recieve new rides on a regular basis.

The reasons why they don't recieve rides anymore is because SFI has a monopoly on the Texas market(which by the way in any business is highly illegal for anti-trust reasons)I mean why put money into SFAW,or even SFFT when they've got SFOT to spoil instead?

Back to what I said earlier...it's simpply impossible for us to get our point across on how SFI's neglect of what they've got is what's hurting them...& in the end us,SFI has used a bait & switch method of sorts with their parks because they've made promises to the extent of saying"we'll take your failing little no name amusement park & we'll give it a shot in the arm with more rides that are bigger & better than before" & so far they havn't lived up to that promise.

The GP aren't dumb & when they see that no new rides are being added consistantly as originally promised then they'll start to go elsewhere for their theme park thrills which brings up another thing...the company has several smaller parks that never got re-branded,parks such as Great escape or Wyndot lake...these parks don't have the attendance base that even SFDL or SFA have to work with & that's the reason why they were never flagged.

As for guys like Coasterdude trying to reson with them is like talking to a brick wall, unless they were in the same situation then they'd never understand it at all.

Hey, I bet the GP will think at least ONE of the three rides getting painted is new. ;-)
Mamoosh's avatar
I'd bet most people return to a park not because something the park is offering something new but because they enjoyed their previous visit[s]. No matter what new-fangled ride a park puts in no one is going to come back if their previous visit was horrid.

YMMV.

rollergator's avatar
My mileage doesn't vary a BIT.....and frankly, I don't think it does for the GP either....

Past performance is the best indicator of future behavior, and a poorly performing park won't draw good crowds even WITH new rides...a park that's "got it going on" will draw crowds even if no new rides are on the agenda...

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah! You just keep talking, and I just keep hearing the same thing over and over again. Why not even try to respond to what I said?

If you live near a neglected park, then I do too, and so does anyone who lives near SFoT, SFMM, and SFGAdv. I'd hate to see what you call parks that get fewer rides than that. As I stated earlier, SFA has gotten the same amount of coasters and new rides as SFGAm in the past few years. Neglected what?

The reasons why they don't recieve rides anymore is because SFI has a monopoly on the Texas market(which by the way in any business is highly illegal for anti-trust reasons)

If SF's "monopoly" over Texas is the reason SFAW doesn't get new rides, why does SFFT and SFoT get large expenditures? Anyone can use big words like "monoploy" and "anti-trust" without even knowing what they mean, as evidenced by your post. Joyland, Western Playland, SeaWorld, etc don't really exist...

SFI has used a bait & switch method of sorts with their parks because they've made promises to the extent of saying"we'll take your failing little no name amusement park & we'll give it a shot in the arm with more rides that are bigger & better than before" & so far they havn't lived up to that promise.

They haven't done that? What do you call going from three coasters to eight in four years? I'd call that a "shot in the arm with more rides that are bigger and better than before", wouldn't you?

The GP aren't dumb

No, I guess just enthusiasts are.

parks such as Great escape or Wyndot lake...these parks don't have the attendance base that even SFDL or SFA have to work with & that's the reason why they were never flagged.

So? What does it matter if they were never branded? Does every park Six Flags owns have to be the size of SFMM?

As for guys like Coasterdude trying to reson with them is like talking to a brick wall, unless they were in the same situation then they'd never understand it at all.

I don't need to be in any sort of situation to understand business. You, on the other hand, could benefit from some business classes.

I totally agree with you Batwing... Astroworld is a major bomb waiting to drop just like Darien Lake.

You've got Coasterdude attempting to justify the means for your park, and I have this VolcanoTBC jumping down my ass whenever I "@ttEmPT t0 JU$+1phy h0w TH3 p4rK h4$ j1pP3D US Y34r 4PHt3R ye4r."

--Oh I'm sorry, VTBC, did I speak in a foreign language there? I guess you aren't one of the L33T.

You're the only one saying how this park is sooo great and doesn't need any attractions.... that it could milk out anudder 10 years before recieving anything new.
Have you even been to the park in the past three years? From the sounds of it... no. This park has MORE problems than Astroworld, that have never been addressed such as stinky & unclean bathrooms, lightbulbs not functioning correctly, down-time on certain rides (more excessively than normal), excessive ASS-BACKWARDS metal detectors at useless check-points, paint jobs falling to hell, and single train operation on busy days.

The general public definately isn't dumb when it comes to new attractions or the lack-there-of.

The park suxxorz!!1!11! I'm getting my season pass there. I'll continue to go there, because it's my local park & they have the best deal for season passes that are good at all other Six Flags properties which I also goto... but unlike most parks, you can see AND do everything at SFDL in less than half a day. There's no reason to go early, because parking isn't that bad, and lines are even less of a problem.

The only redeeming value the park has is the laser show at the end of the day. That has always been A+ since they debuted in the early 90's, and seem to always carry over...

...which is why this park pisses me off even more. It's got some great features, but the overall value of the park is wasted with the lack of attractions. We've had basically the same old rides (mainly from Huss, since SFDL used to be the Huss testing grounds) since the early 80's. Our only modern FLAT ride is the Huss Top Spin. All our other rides are old and dated. If you visited the park in 1988, you wouldn't find any newer flats in 2004 except Twister & an old Scrambler.

How is that making this park such a great park, VTBC? It's pathetic! A campground is fine... but being attached to the amusement park isn't all that great of a deal. I've walked thru the campground during the middle of the summer taking some photographs, and half of the campers were at the campground vs. in the park... I'm betting half the hotel guests are doing the same... either enjoying the pools or just chilling out.

The park has its high points, but the low points FAR FAR outweigh their low points... and if you've ever been to Worlds of Adventure, Canada's Wonderland, New England, Cedar Point, Dorney Park, Great Escape for cryin' out loud.... you'll see that this park is in dire need of help!

Why can't you get it thru head that this park (along with a couple of other select parks) were starting to show true potential, then just went down the pits shortly after they were branded, or just after a certain period of time (Not sure what Astroworlds story is). There are many many other peeps that would agree with me... you are the only one who seems to disagree.

Oh my, you're about as logical as Dawgbyte. Your local park is Six Flags America, right?

Let's break it down.

Six Flags America-

1999- Three New Coasters, countless other infrastructure improvements.
2000- Superman Ride of Steel
2001- Batwing/Skycoaster
2003- Blizzard River

And there was also a Chance Chaos thrown in there somewhere!

That's 5 new coasters, 1 new waterslide, 1 new flat ride, and a Skycoaster since the park has been branded. How the HELL can you POSSIBLY be complaining?!

Now let's look at Six Flags Great America since 1999-

1999- Raging Bull
2000- NOTHING.
2001- Deja Vu and Vertical Velocity
2002- NOTHING.
2003- Superman: Ultimate Flight
2004- 4 new Flat Rides, Spinning Mouse.

So, since 1999-

BOTH parks got a HYPERCOASTER. BOTH parks got LAUNCHED coasters. BOTH parks got INVERTED BOOMERANGS (and SFA's runs FAR more frequently!), and BOTH parks got FLYING coasters!

You have absolutely no case. Go away.

VolcanoTBC said:

Actually, if you check his profile you will see he lives in a little town called Buffalo, NY. But a pretty good breakdown of rides at SFA the past few years none the less.

The changes the theme/amusement park industry are going thru right now are not easy ones. It is going to be more difficult than the coaster "boom" which just seemed to go on forever. I remember my dad and my reaction to Flashback! at SFoT. We felt so privlaged to have a new coaster! It had been YEARS! LMAO!

I guess what I'm saying is that if you look at the bigger picture, the little things being nit-picked here are really not that big of a deal. But I am enjoying reading everyone's 2 cents!
