What style Hypercoaster do you prefer...

As of today (6/3/2002) I have a been on an amazing amount of hyper coasters (2). Out of the amazing number of styles of hyper coasters that I have been on (out-and-back), my favorite would have to be out-and-back.

Anyway, I loved both Apollo and Magnum. This summer my "hyper coaster count" will rise to five so we'll see after then. :)

Millennium Force is a Giga but, details......

I like Gionolova(sp?)-Goliath, Titan for the great air time, and the grey out on the helixes, its great.

G's and helices. G's and helices. That's what I love!

That link does not prove at all that X is a hyper. 2 reasons it is not. 1) it has inversions, no hypers have inversions, hypers are for airtime, and 2) just it has a 200 foot drop does not make it a hyper, it is catagorized as a 4D.

Well there is my 2 cents.

There is nothing that says hypers are required to have inversions, airtime etc. "Hyper" is just coaster lingo just the same as "terra".

Hey CRVeck, what would you consider ME at NY, NY casino? It's over 200 feet tall and has inversions, but it also provides some airtime with some decent drops. I don't want to start an argument or anything, but I've never seen a statement that a coaster has to be anything in particular in order to be a hyper coaster. Magnum is considered to be the first hyper coaster. It stands over 200 hundred feet tall but the largest drop is under 200 feet, sounds similar to Manhatten Express. Also what would you consider Steel Phantom or Excelerator?

I my opinion, it at least has to be a full circuit coaster to be considered hyper, because otherwise it would be a shuttle and X is a 4D.

The only description I've heard of a hyper coaster is that it's over 200 feet tall. Of course, does that make Wicked Twister, Superman The Escape and Tower of Terror hypercoasters also? This is so confusing.

X is only 186 feet tall. Even if it didn't have inversions it wouldn't be a hyper. Chance-Morgan and G-Tec hypers rock my world.

PS- A hyper does not have to have airtime, that is just one way to make the ride more fun. A hyper is just a ride over 200 feet tall without any inversions.

Those GCI & Vekoma hypers are pretty tight. Also G-Tecs rock my world too.

Note to CCO: SoB is considered a hyper yet includes an inversion.

I like any hyper that has a good layout and is smooth. I am not partial towards any brand of coaster more than others. I believe they are all equal and deserve a chance.

CoasterCrazyOne: But X has a 215' spinnin' insane first drop! :)

I don't care about definitions of hypers; I'm not so picky and complain about the stupid technicalities on defining a type of coasters. I simply let them all be hypers.

To my favorites, in order (numbered as if they were on my top ten steelie):

1. Nitro: It's fast, steep, insane, intense, and a B&M! What's not to like?

2. Goliath: (Dr. Evil's voice) It is frickin' tall, frickin' fast, and it has a frickin' ungodly amount of intensity; of all which contribute to the overall effect of pure rush. I wish I had more rides, as I have only ridden it once. But man, I was completely blown away by the extreme smoothness and intensity!

3. Apollo's Chariot: See Nitro (1); minus the intensity. Intensity doesn't have any effect on my liking of a hyper [except for Goliath (2)]. Pure "flo-jector" airtime on pretty much every hill and an amazing final 49 ft. drop. I don't remember Superman: Ride of Steel (SFA) having such a surprise ending.

4. X: Yes, it's a hyper in my book. It has a sick effect of spinning seats which contribute to the insanity of this coaster. Even though it does not rush you through the track so quickly, the first drop feels extremely fast and confusing. The best part: a tie between the first drop and the "sort-of" zero-g-roll right before the last raven.

10. Superman: Ride of Steel: It ranks low on my list, probably due to the boring nature of the coaster itself. Great airtime, but horrible trains especially for people with long legs (like me!). Flat helices and straight pieces of track bore me to sleep as they do not have the diversity of either Apollo's Chariot et al. People keep saying that it's for the pure raw speed; huh? It may be me, but I feel like the train is getting slower and slower until it finally gets over that insane third hill. S:RoS is also very predictable to me, so no fun in not knowing what's going to happen next.

I think that's enough. I hope this points out that no style is my favorite or earns my preference. All hypers have their own characteristics that make them shine.

Easy,

Hyper Woodies! :)

I've only been on three hypercoasters :

1.) King's Island Construction - SOB - 218', my favorite part was the 214' drop...that was awesome...

2.) Arrow Dynamics - Magnum - What can I say? One of my top 5 steel...

3.) Intamin - Millennium Force - 310', so yeah, a hypercoaster, and currently my #1 steel.

"Enjoy your record-breaking ride on Millennium Force"

Come on guys. Everyone knows that hypers are no longer in. The new thing is something they call the Arrow Mega-Looper. I can't wait to see the layout of their next coaster.

I would have to rate them as such:

1. B&M - Raging Bull, Nitro, Apollo's

2. Intamin - MF, Superman ROS (SFNE), Superman ROS (SFA)

3. Arrow - Magnum

4. Morgan - Steel Force

5. Giovanola - Titan, Goliath

BMCOASTER

bmcoaster@wi.rr.com

I've always been told that a 'hyper' is a term we really shouldn't even care that much about since it really doesn't matter I guess, but IMO a hyper is any coaster than has a 200' drop or a 200' lift. So, Son of Beast, X, Phantom's Revenge, Nitro, Steel Force, Mamba, Steel Phantom, Manhattan Express, Apollo's Chariot, Titan, Raging Bull, Millennium Force, Steel Dragon 2000, Goliath, Superman: The Escape, Wicked Twister, Superman: Ride of Steel, Wild Thing, Expedition Ge Force, etc. are all hypers to me.

edit: I think I responded to this before. =Op
