yeah, i wouldnt consider X a hypercoaster either, but thats just me....
ive only had the pleasure of riding 3 hypers....Apollos Chariot and Nitro of B&M, and S:ROS at SFA...Intamin...out of those three, S:ROS is definitely my favourite. now that was a HARD decision to come by...i really love AC, great airtime, and the Beemer seat and restraint design allows for a really nice ride, but there is something about S:ROS....that first drop, front seat...it really does feel like being strapped to a missile....and that third hill just dominates!!!
Tim (man.....July 25th...finally...Cedar Point....MF.....front seat!!!....droole.....:))

"hi, my name is Tim, and im a coasterholic"...."Hi Tim!!" hehe:)
I consider a hypercoaster a coaster with a 200ft plus drop or just under that with hills that create air time, twisting turns and no inversions. thats basically what they are. It appears that X rotates, flips and inverts. Not making it anything like what actual hypercoasters are. X is a 4-d, i beleive thats what it is classified as, and therefore its in a catagory of its own.
Just because its big doesnt make it a hyper, thats my opinion. Look at Alpengeist, people have once called that a hypercoaster or hyper invert becuase of its size. But its not, its just a huge powerfull invert - that sure does feel like a hyper ;)
I agree Ride It. There is no set definition of a hyper and there never will be. I once heard someone describe a hyper as a tall steel coaster that gives the experience of a traditional wooden coaster. (Air and laterals that is, no fancy loops or anything) I agreed with that.
If I saw a 250 foot looper next to something like Steel Eel, I'd give Steel Eel the hyper label first. Stats for height don't mean much, it's what the ride delivers that classifies it for me. I would never label X a hyper just because it happens to be over 200 feet. It's a 4-d, in a class of it's own.

OMG?! Did I read this right? Another Res fan?! My whole profile is the song Tsunami which I must say is the best couples song I have ever heard. I love all their songs, what a great band.
Anyways...back to topic...I have ridden 3 hypers and I'd have to say out of M-Force, Magnum, and Phantom's Revenge...PR is THE best followed by M-Force and IMHO Magnum sucked. I didn't find one good thing about it.
I'm hoping the Intamin hyper proposed for WoA is as good at Goliath at SFH looks...the design looks amazing and I can't wait to see what's in store for our park. :-D

As for Hypers, I forgot to put up my rankings (from first to worst):
Raging Bull
S:ROS @ SFA
Phantom's Revenge
(Son of Beast)
Apollo's Chariot
Magnum
Millennium Force
Nitro
Though about this time next week, Titan will appear on this list. I'm thinking it'll slide in about 3rd or fourth ;)

Yeah, Intamin Hypers are sweet... Doesn't anyone think they should make the Netherland's Goliath into a layout with bigger hills? Like a giga-coaster with that layout?
It's definately NOT a 'boring' intamin layout!
Antuan,
hostyl be smokin' somthin' *mighty* strong. :)
As for my hyper preferences, you ALL should know that by now (after all, how many times has a variant of this SAME topic come up! And yet we always still respond! LOL). B&M, please.
As for rankings, it goes a lil' somthin' like this:
Nitro
Millennium Force
SRoS SFNE
Raging Bull
Apollo's Chariot
SRoS SFDL
Phantom's Revenge
Mamba
SRoS SFA
Steel Force
Steel Eel
Desperado
Magnum
Titan
Goliath
Wild Thing
As someone once said, the worst hypers are still hypers (ie they ALL are pretty darn good).
Now, with ALL those hypers in the US, why the hell is the closest one to me about eight hours away (BGW and Apollo's Chariot)? Come on SFoG, PC, BGT, you know you want some tall B&M non-looping steel! :)

coaster_fanatic_kid: Try Raging Bull and then come back and tell me that B&M is timid. That first drop alone betters it than any hyper I've ridden.
Raging Bull
Superman SFNE
Millennium Force
Apollo's Chariot
Magnum
Nitro
Superman SFA/DL

B&M
Period. Raging Bull has the best drop by far out of any coaster that i have been on. I have also been on MF and MAgnum, but Raging Bull has so much more airtime and G forces than those two it isn't even funny. And B&M is in no way timid. On Raging Bull on the bottom of all the hills it is so intense it is mad crazy, especially one of the six flags described inclined loops, the one right before the brake run. That thing pulls almost as much Gs as the loop on X flight. And like me and numerous people on this topic have said, the first drop can not be beat. Also, this season the brakes are barely tapping the train on the mcbr, and whoa!!! that is airtime.
