What holiday should HW add next?

Mamoosh's avatar
How about a section themed to the classic 1942 movie Holiday Inn?
Easter wouldn't be hard to theme, I already mentioned a Jr. Woodie. A spinning ride themed to Eggs and other assorted types.

Doesn't the park own some land across the street from the entrance to the employee parking lot? If so they could move that parking lot and expand into the area where the lot is currently. ;)

I think Easter would be a great holiday to add. Have the "Eggroller," which could be a ride like Spinning Dragons with cars themed to either Easter Baskets or even Eggs themselves. Then they could have chocolate themed rides and whatever. I do like the being able to meet the Easter Bunny daily thing that someone mentioned.

I'd recommend avoiding religious-tied concepts

So I'll recommend either Mardi Gras or St. Patrick's Day; either one could be done very well (but a slight edge to Mardi Gras).

And where exactly do you think SAINT Patrick's Day and Mardis Gras (bka Fat Tuesday aka the day before Ash Wednesday) come from. There is a reason all of these things are called holidays (holy days).

Anyway, I'd vote for Thanksgiving. It's pretty much the only holiday left that is still true to its original meaning!

Garbage Day. A holiday so popular, it's celebrated once a week.

Oops, it appears some other parks have already adopted this theming. Never mind.

Paula, I've got some pictures to send you from our HW trip a couple weeks ago. I keep meaning to send them and get distracted. Plus I've been trying to finish a pet project using some of them. ;)

Valentine's Day. Install a Sally Tunnel of Love dark ride, Love Bug (caterpillar ride), Cupid's Arrow (finally an inverted - HW needs one so get over it already).

They do?

Aside from the inverted coaster, I really like those ideas!

Would an "Inverted Woodie" be sponsored by Levitra?

Since they already have the African-themed Splashin Safari maybe the could open a Kwanza-themed area near it? ;)

I think this is pretty clever too - minus the inverted coaster bit. Instead of the inverted coaster - how about a Maure-Sohne Spinning Coaster titled "Love Sick", plus add a Vekoma Air Jumper and name that "Cupid's Arrow". The stores could be a flower shop (with the typcial theme park paper flowers, feather flowers, etc.), a wedding cake bakery, Jewelry/Acessory store, candy store, etc.

Man wouldn't it be fun to have a job that pays for you to actually sit around and daydream like this. Paula, are there any openings in the park development department.

To throw a whole new twist in the idea, where would a new area be added? Without taking land from existing areas, and assuming that the land the park is currently using is about all they land they have for expansion, the only space I see left is the grassy area between Raven and Legend. Ideas?

I agree. It looks like at one point there was something over where The Raven was because there are some large cement blocks sticking out of the ground in that area.

I was told by another individual that Holiday World has a lot of room to expand; over 100 acres worth. I'm not sure if that is the case, but I also agree with the individual that said they need more rides to thin the crowd out. They do an excellent job at keeping the lines moving and being customer-service oriented. But, I would also like to see possibly two more roller coasters; an inverted and even one of those wild mouse coasters like the Wildcatt at Cedar Point.

Hehe, that is a good one.

Actually, what about New Years Day? Imagine all the confetti and stuff that they could do every night, maybe a few fireworks, and even a a ride like the giant ball in New York. That could be just a simple observation tower actually.

Lots of tall hats and other souvenirs. *** Edited 7/7/2004 12:07:26 AM UTC by spraker@yahoo.com***

Great Ideas!

Lets go down the list:

New Year's Day - I like the New York Ball Drop observation tower ride, the other great suggestion I have heard for a section of this theme would be a "Screaming Squirrel" themed as the Hangover. That may go against that 'family values' thing though.

Valentines Day - Okay, the candy store goes here of course, as does the flower store, tunnel of love, yeah of course, how about a Wisdom Heartflip with the tubs themed as hearts?

Mardi Gras - Cool can we have parades every day, and oky non-alcoholic Hurricanes. Shoot just put in a Dartron Hurricane, witht the center spindle looking like a giant HUrricane: the drink.

St. Patricks Day - Welcome to Rainbow Land! A Huss Rainbow would have been a given except for the fact the park just pulled a Falling Star. Maybe a Pot-of-Gold ride, it would be a spin the barrel ride, except with pots of gold. Can't forget the Corned Beef and Cabbage stand! Maybe put in a large redemption arcade called the "Luck of the Irish", a horse racing derby called the "Irish Sweepstakes" or whatever. Possible a Huss Breakdance themed as the 4 Leaf Clover. (Or better yet, a Mondial Shake), or wait still yet there is a Huss ride that one German show calls Take-Off that looks real cool. 4 spinning cars mounted on an elevating turntable.

Easter - Chucks Petter Cottontail (Hopping down the bunny trail) idea is great. Though I would use a Rock-O-Plane for the Egg Roller. Many folks to describe it as egg-shaped cars!

I am lumping Flag Day, 4th of July, Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Presidents Day all into the exisitiing 4th of July section. Historical note that they did have an educational exhibit once called the Hall of Famous Americans, I beleive Liberty Launch now stands in that spot.

Thanksgiving would have the parks best sit down restaurant, it can be either a buffet or a table service arrangement, serving the traditional American thanksgiving dinner. The area would also have a swinging ship ride themed to the Mayflower.

The Hannukah area can have the Dreidel ride, its a spin-it-yourself ride. I question calling a Rotoshake "Good Luck", but I like the idea of the plaques, we can give it the Tomb Raider treatment. Water turned to blood, okay water jets and red food coloring, hail, okay Ice machine in the ceilign drops some cubes on the riders, locusts would be a great dark ride style scene, same for the frogs, pestilence and the death of the firstborn may be a bit harder, perhaps some more dark ride like scnes. HEck let's just use a HUSS Giant Top Spin for this,

Of course we need to add the Haunted House dark ride to Halloween, and, I can't let it rest, the Rudoplh Carousel in Christmas, why lets even get one of those old Christmass Tree rides that were popular in christmas themed parks many years ago. (For all I know HW may have had one of these at one time, kiddies ride around a tree in ornament shaped cars)

Or we could have Columbus Day with a RiverQuest Safariventure ride, in appropriately thmeed watercraft. (It would run along the sides of the African themed waterpark)
