What happened to Turbulence?

Don't you mean "Best Group Overreaction"?

I'll agree with that...except in the opposite way.

I personally find it fascinating that the people who think there is something going on are called cospiracy theorists, but the people who think it is a non-event are the ones with the ideas of "website malfunctions" and "they removed it so they can focus on Christmas" and "it's winter so why push it now?"

I find it verrrry hard to believe that there was any kind of site malfunction. The link is not broken, it has been removed. The rest of the site is working just fine. And if the whole site had been reverted to a pre-Turbulence version, we wouldn't be seeing all of the Christmas stuff on there.

As for the "focusing on Christmas" theory, how does promotion of new ride affect that at all? SDC doesn't seem to be having any problem pushing Powder Keg on their site, right below all of their Christmas event info. And heck, Hershey didn't have any problem promoting Turbulence during Halloween... what's so different about the Christmas event?

And "why push it now?" Maybe to drive season pass sales? Maybe because they announced it in late September? I mean, if they didn't want to push it during winter, they wouldn't have announced it in Semptember. What sense does it make to announce it in the fall, promote it for a couple of months, then remove all mention of it from the website and park. And Hershey never had a problem promoting their other new rides during the winter. They even posted construction photos of Lightning Racer, Roller Soaker, and Storm Runner... what's so different about Turbulence?

I guess my point (long-winded it may be) is -- is it really that hard to believe there might be something going on here? A park announces a ride, advertises it for a couple of months, then all of a sudden removes all mention of it from the park and website, at a time most parks are trying to drive season pass sales. Sure sounds weird to me.

(I certainly hope no one takes this personally...I wasn't trying to single anyone out or pick on anyone!)

Good points, I too thought that now, with Christmas in two and a half weeks, that the park would want to make sure people knew that the park was getting a new "coaster", so why not advertise like crazy, even if it means just 100 additional season passes would be sold.
Maybe they decided to sell the ride instead to Great American Family Parks, Inc.
Maybe they're putting it in at Dutch Wonderland....you never know...

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger

FreakyLick, don't put words in my mouth. You took what I said and blew it out of context, but what I said still applies.

And for those of you that are specifically saying that I'm wrong, find in this thread where I said that it was or wasn't.

All I've said is maybe they did this or maybe they did that. I fail to see how that is saying that anyone is wrong, I'm simply stating that maybe everyone should look @ it from a different perspective.

Oh, and enthusiasts @ Hersheypark this time of year that think I'm calling you old: You don't count in my post. You are an enthusiast, thats worse that the Geriatric Brigaid looking @ XMAs lights.:)

Yeah, that seems to be the source of the conflict in this thread.

Those of us that don't think it's anything big at this point don't necessarily disagree - we're just saying it seems like an awful lot of nothing going down to be treating this as a done deal at this point.

Right. As much as I want to try Turbulence out, I'll be busy riding Kingda Ka(oh, wait, maybe I will...) and Hydra.
I read on some other site that B&M were adding some elements to the ride to make it a hybrid of Turbulence and Air at Alton Towers.

Oh yeah, and it's being renamed Flatulence.

Clint, Hershey isn't too far from Dorney and Great Adv......may as well hit all three of them. :-D

And Clementon is only 37 miles from SFGAdv according to rcdb. May as well hit all four!

Tsunami's new for 2005, right? Right? Right! ;)

Actually it is genius! Reverse marketing.

If they had the ride on the web site and signs at the holiday event, we wouldn’t be talking about it…

I heard it was all a brilliant marketing plan. There never was to actually be a coaster called Turbulance.

Seeing all of the hype that BGW generated a few years ago when they let Drachen Fire sit SBNO and then eventually removed it, Hershey decided to create some of that same type of Hype. To save money and time, they decided to let its picture on the website for a few months (SBNO) and then remove it... all before it was even built... all the while generating the publicity (Hey... bad publicity is better than no publicity).

By the looks of some of the panic in this thread, it appears that their crafty (and very economically sound) plan has worked.

So far the rumor that Hersheypark was going to cancel Turbulence is turning out to be a bust, though other websites such as Xtreme Coasters have also received the same notice that we did. Our sources at Interactive Rides are still unaware of any such situation and have heard nothing from Hersheypark at this point in time. Unfortunately I have yet to get an official comment one way or the other from Kathy Burrows (Hersheypark PR) on the situation. If all goes well, it looks like this may have just been a large hoax that got out of control.

Well thanks for clearing that up! And what I said still applies.

Gonch..I'm following you now ;-)

the only two quotes from the parties involved both claim: "We're still building this damn thing"

I'm so glad that Interactive and HP cleared everything up for us, but is it wise marketing for them to refer to it as "this damn thing".

Did anyone else hear about all of those people in Harrisburg who jumped off of the I-83 bridge into the chilly waters of the Susquehanna yesterday? They said it was a bunch of coaster enthusiasts. Those damn Chicken Little's.

No further explanation needed. I'm hopelessly lost.

They're trying to convey a more 'down to earth' attitude. ;)

So THAT's why the Susquehanna flooded yesterday. Tragic ...

Don't forget Knoebels.

I think every enthusiast in the northeast plans on hitting the Kingda Ka, Hydra, Tsunami, Turbulence combo in 2005.

Seems pretty rare to have 4 new coasters going in that close to each other. (Tsunami didn't open until Sept - it might as well be a 2005 addition)

Oh yeah, the distances on RCDB are "as the crow flies", not "as the car drives" - it's about 53 miles from SFGAdv to Clementon.

I think they're trying to bring more attention to the ride since the other new attractions leave Turbulence in the shadow.
