What happened to Turbulence?

Playa, you should submit that to the Daily Show! Best. Comment. Uh ... of the week ;)
Wasn't underestimating coaster construction costs what ultimately did in GCI? (Well, that and Denise Dinn's divorce...)

This sounds like a lawsuit that will more than likely be settled before it makes it to court. What were Hershey's out of pocket expenses at this point? $400K? That sounds like a good settlement amount...

CCI, not GCI. Great Coasters International is still pumping out rides to rave reviews.

Yes, but GCI knows how to *price* coasters...

Are we sure IR didn't hire Denise Dinn out from under Stan? ;)

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

This could REALLY hurt Hershey. 2005 is going to be a highly comptitive year for the Northeast. Kingda Ka is coming to SFGAdv, Hydra is coming to Dorney, Tomb Raider is coing to PKD, BGW has their mystery dark ride, and SFA is planning something as well. With Hershey just getting the refurbishments for 2005, they could easily get swamped by the compitition unless they can ride the success of Storm Runner. What would be even worse is if SFI bought it and installed it at SFA along with the water park project, or even if it went to Knoebels.

Highly doubtful. Do you honestly think a Topspin (TR:TR) is going to keep people from traveling to HP? Have you looked at the video for Hydra? The ride is extremely short. It's hardly the kind of coaster that gets people to travel hundreds of miles to ride (except for enthusiasts). How many people in my area (Maryland) even know about Dorney Park? Not many. Busch Gardens is a long haul for most people in comparison to PKD, and without a new coaster, people will still probably take the year off. I grant you that a lot of people from my area may travel to SFGadv., but if word leaks out that the ride doesn't work well, then all bets are off.

Other than those enthusiasts who were only visiting Herhseypark next year for Turbulence I doubt their attendence will be hurt one iota.

As opposed to what? Kingda Ka?
That ride's over and done before Hydra's crests its lift, mmmkay?

I say they oughtta name the next Intamin rocket WhamBam.

The useage of 'Ka' itself when considering the shape of the rides is pretty funny:

Ka (Sanskrit) [from kah or kas interog who] Who -- personified as a deity; "it has its esoteric significance and is a name of Brahma in his phallic character as generator or Prajapati"

It certainly is phallic!

So you're saying 'Kingda Ka' means I've got the biggest....?

Hmmm... Hydra is short, this coming from an Intamin Fan. I think it is about the same length as Kingda Ka.

Besides, how many people travel hundreds of miles just to ride roller coasters (other than the low percentage of enthusiasts) anyways? Places like Hershey and BGW (and Orlando, just to throw another one in there) do good because they make it more of a destination, with other things to do. I'd bet that more people travel to BGW than to PKD, I know in my area quite a few people have been to Williasburg, but not King's Dominion.

Eh, I just don't like when people are biased like that, Im a bug GCI fan, but that doesn't mean that I go and bash one of the most creative, imaginative, unique and probably one of the best coasters of my favorite companies top competitor (well, lets say that I wouldnt go bashing CCI, though I know they are done)

Perhaps you should get over those comments and stop being sensitive. I hate when people get all emotional about silly comments like that.

Hydra might be longer, but it isn't the tallest, fastest coaster in the world. What he was trying to point out with the shortness of Hydra is that it won't draw too hard away from Hershey's fanbase.

By the way, I was wrong in the beginning of the thread. I guess the rumors didn't turn out to be so far fetched.

Down is the new up.
I'm not biased. There are a lot of B&M's that I have liked (Alpengeist, Apollo's Chariot, Batman the Ride(s)/Great White, Superman Krypton Coaster, Nitro, Medusa East, Dominator, Medusa, Chang, Raptor, Great Bear). The only two I haven't liked were Talon and Mantis (I'm in between on Batman the Dark Knight). I just happen to like the Intamin coasters better. And not only that, I also like their drop towers a whole lot .

Does that mean that it can't be better then?

I wasn't getting emotional, I was just making sure this wasn't some pre-determined bias, which Intamin Fan said it wasn't, so Im cool with that :)

So there finally is a M:TR...just by a different name ;) *** Edited 12/10/2004 3:08:38 PM UTC by redman822***
