Two more out the door at Geagua Lake?

Jason, I dig your attitude. More people in the world need to find a way to be happier in life.

That said, I think the pessimists concerned about Geauga Lake have reason to be pessimistic. I haven't seen many signs that Geauga Lake has turned the corner. In fact, I'm not even sure they have made it up to the intersection yet.

They may be on a dead end street.

There is no doubt in my mind that their attendance has been much better this year. And of the people going to the park, it looks to me that there are more families and fewer teenagers. Contrary to the mentality of many enthusiasts that taking out coasters will kill the park, maybe they actualy Are headed in the right direction. Not every park needs (or even should) be like Cedar Point.

Before Primere Parks took the park over 11 years ago, Geauga Lake only had 4 coasters and they were doing just fine. I can handle them taking out the coasters. What the park really needs are some more shows and better food choices.

I wish I could be optimistic, but if what I've heard comes true (and I've heard a lot- much of which hasn't been posted here), there's going to be little reason for optimism in 2008 and even less in 2009. I'll wait to see how things play out in reality rather than conversation, but one thing I believe 100% is that things are not good.
Yeah, right now, I'm more optimistic about Conneaut Lake opening for 2008 than Geauga Lake.
^^^GL will survive without the coasters rumored to be removed just as they did in the past. It's only the enthusiasts who are primarily up in arms over something that,in the end they have no control over.
Their site reads 'Looking FORWARD to seeing you in 2008' not 'Hoping we're here to see you.' Yeesh.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

^^ Something tells me that if your beloved SFA was shipping Batwing off to another Six Flags park, or if the classic Wild One were just leveled, a certain enthusiast would be up in arms over something he/she has no control over. Just a thought.

^^^^^ Conngeaugaut Lake. I kinda like the sound of that. I think it's Algonquin for "meth-lab-death-trap with vanishing large humpbacked creatures."
Do I think Geauga Lake will be around next year? Yes. Do I think it will be the Geauga Lake we all know?

I'm not so sure.

" Coasterkid, do you think GL will be their next year "

" Yea, but I think it will be smaller ;) "

I see no point in being a pesimist. I'd prefer to be happy in life.

If you want to be happy in life, then you *should* be a pessimist. Pessimistic people are either always right, or pleasantly suprised. :) What can make you happier than that?

How true. Set yourself up for disappointment and when it doesn't happen, it'll be like you hit the lottery ;)

Something tells me you'd pop a blood vessel if just one of SFA's coasters was removed without replacement. And since when are enthusiasts the only people that notice when a ride is gone? As if regular guests are going to pass by the Dominator and Thunderhawk sites and forget there was once anything there?

^ and the footers would still be their.

^They took X-Flights footers out. And I think they may have taken Steel Venom's out if they didn't run out of time at the begining of the season.

I agree 100% about the shows and food. This summer GL was down two shows (the lumberjack show and strolling marching band) and the food was the same mediocre stuff as always (at record high prices). Some people have justified removing the rides on the grounds that GL is trying to market itself as a "family park." But taking out the shows leads me to believe otherwise.

As for taking out rides... I completely disagree. Yes, GL might have only had 4 coasters 11 years ago; but Cedar Point had 6 few coasters, Kings Island had 5 or 6 fewer coasters. Geauga Lake simply can't compare to these parks anymore, especially after all the things that have been removed.

Plus, the expectations have already been set. When people visit an amusement park they expect to see improvements, new attractions. Anyone who visited Six Flags Worlds of Adventure and wants to give GL a try would go and wonder, what happened to Superman? Batman? X-flight? All the good things they remember about the park will be gone.

And last but not least... despite the removal of attractions, gate and in-park prices have been increasing since 2005. I might be willing to pay more money for a new coaster or something; but I really do not like to pay more for less.

Paul - I think you make a good point. The expectation for GL was increased by SF. I'm not sure it can return to its roots as a small, family park with 4 coasters (as it had with BD, DL, Corkscrew, the Cyclone mouse ride that got ousted, and later RWB).

The sad part is that some parks in this region are quite successful as family parks with just 4-5 coasters. Kennywood has 5 (3 of which were built in the 20s), Waldameer has 2, soon to be 3, Knoebels has 2 soon to be 3, and HW has 3. None of them seems to be in danger of closing.

Yet, it's hard to imagine GL matching their success as "family parks" with a coaster line-up of BD, DL, and Villain, for example.

RIP, GL.

Wow I thought that SFNO was empty every time that I went but at least the queue station was full for every ride, instead of an empty queue station, no wonder CF is trimming this park down.

Bolliger/Mabillard for President in '08 NOT Dinn/Summers

Wow, are the pictures of Dominator scarily similar to mine. Anyone reading this would say "Of course they would be. It's the same ride from the same year."

No, what I'm referring to is the lack of riders. Except for the front-row, there doesn't seem to be many people onboard this world-class coaster (an overused term, but it fits Dominator) in crazy horse's pictures.

Now remind you, we went on one of the worst days weather-wise back in June (we couldn't reschedule). Our day consisted of heavy bouts of rain and thunderstorms mixed with intermittent periods of sunshine. But according to crazy horse's pictures, the weather looks just fine.

If I were in charge, I'd take a look at all those empty seats and think "Hmmm...., this woud look a whole better filled to capacity at park X."

so you want the cars to be filled with x-men ;)
