I anticipate the lock is coming real soon. I logged on today and thought I had clicked on the wrong thread.
A moderator was taking part in the linguistics discussion. If letting the thread wander as threads are so want to do was so out of bounds I don't think one of the powers-that-be would be putting his $.02 in.
Two Dollars, Fifty Cents
Dos Dólares, Cincuenta Centavos
Two Dolla, Fiddy cent
Or what about rest rooms?
Men/Women
hombres/Mujeres
Pimps/Bitches
;)
Interesting to see what a little drout in information can do lol.

Is the thread dead at this point? Until anything else comes up, yes, but why not let it just fade away until something conclusive comes up? We've got all kinds of people trying to be social studies teachers, and it's confusing to people who haven't read the thread either a) recently or b) at all
A coaster/amusement park site is not where I look for my information to figure out why some pop rap artists talk the way they do, or how any other ethnic group talks for that matter. I understand that the original joke had to be clarified to Rollergator, but why it went beyond that I don't understand.

Yeah, but I'm notorious for leaving threads go only to have someone more responsible come by and lock it down. I'm like the 'cool uncle' of the mods - the one that gets you high for the first time. ;)
JRS:
I'd say there is a "fitty/fiddy" chance they will succeed.
Nice. :)
I certainly see how somebody could feel this way. However, I've always believed and even stated a time or two that CB is a personality driven site...versus strict information of which you could find at many a coaster site on the web. It is the personalities and occasional thread drift that make this place so interesting.
When I first started posting I felt the same as the quote. As time has gone by my interest and tastes have changed yet I'm still drawn to CB because of the personalities (many of whom I disagree with on a regular basis). It is no secret that strict coaster talk is no longer my thing. I much prefer the humor, political, sociological. and most importantly business aspect of coaster discussions...which do get off the coaster beaten path occasionally.
I don't think I'm alone with my evolving interests. CB has kept enough personalities, conflict, disagreement, and subject drift to maintain interesting status. I know I've not visited another coaster site in 4-5 years unless it was a link from CB. That about says it all for me.
I appologize for elaborating on somebody elses "moronic" use of ebonics. :) If the thread closes...so be it (note I've given my .02 cents on GL...yet some seem to keep complaining)! I will note that there were 10-12 pages of repeated GL opinions. How much more information could one possibly need until we get to dead-equine status? We've not beat a subject to death since those 30 or so threads on "pay to cut" of which I so often participate! ;) Maybe mods recognize we are on page 14 and as such are giving a little discussion leeway...?
Also, arguing that this thread is useless until something actually happens is very pertinent - today is GL's last operating day for the season. I'd suspect if 2 major coasters are getting dismantled and moved CF is going to want to do that relatively quickly, at the very least to avoid weather issues.
When did X-Flight start coming apart?
More Restaraunts and water rides
Fate is the path of least resistance.

At the time I had this to say...
Just my opinion---but I'm not sure Cedarfair wants huge attendances at this park. By huge, I mean numbers that could in any way lead to a decrease in attendance at their park 90 minutes down the road. At 2.7 million visitors a year, it just does not sound TRADITIONAL to me. I thought they wanted to return this to a traditional park. Most people, I believe, associate traditional parks with smaller crowds, shorter lines, wooden coasters, spin and pukes, wild neon lighting, friendly staff, and most importantly---GOOD FATENING FAIR FOOD! GL has a perfect setting for a traditional feel with the lakeside setting. A new major coaster is the LAST thing they need. I’d prefer a Zipper and Tilt-A-Whirl. A ride-through haunted house would be a dandy addition too.
I’m still in the camp of armchair quarterbacks that thinks GL needs to pull some of the steel coasters out of their line-up. The floorless and flying models would make better additions at their more urban regional parks. I think they need to cut operating costs and concentrate on customer service, food, and a fair-like nighttime atmosphere. On previous posts some people had good takes about waterpark additions, which would make sense for keeping the daytime guests entertained. At night, this park could come alive. It could be a neat little nighttime diversion for locals and the Cleveland market, who are tired of a movie or baseball game. To me, nothing makes a traditional park come alive like fried cheese and running lights on the out-and-back. A true Coney Island feel is what I’m imagining.
My vision does not gel with 2.7 million per…
They need to find their Kenneywood potatoe. The ride removals make sense based upon the present discussion and debates we've had for at least 3 years now. They need to add some atmosphere back to this place.

Is that "ebonics" for potato?
Thanks for your opinions Mr. Quayle.

XF started coming down in early november IIRC.Now since Dominator is a much larger ride I suppose that they'll want to get started yanking that one out ASAP....also since Dominator sits partially on the lake as opposed to on dry ground like XF did it will probably take a bit longer to remove.
To me, it looks like someone trying to yell or shout at other people all the time. Either that, or you have a severe Type-A personality.
Come on Jeffrey, come join the rest of us who don't have to resort to such typographical tricks.
After all this discussion, is anything else confirmed to leave for sure that we know of?
Or is this still all conjecture?
Touche Mr. Jeff Smith ;) And THANK YOU for not taking my little poke at your post personally and seeing the humor in it. :)

I've bee steering clear of this thread. I've said pretty much all I had to say about dialects and accents and whatnot, the Geauga Lake discussion has been beaten to death over more than a dozen pages, and my busy weekend plans didn't give me much time to sit at my computer. However, JRS said something I feel needs commenting on.
This is definitely a personality-driven site, and that's why I have been posting here regularly since 2000. I get into heated debates with numerous people, some light-hearted and some more serious, and there are times I want to leap through my monitor and give the person on the other end a good smack ;) But I've been to other coaster discussion forums, and they're either too mechanical or too reckless. This site seems to strike the best balance between the two, allowing personalities to come through while maintaining a good amount of order. Without the usual "characters", this site wouldn't be worth coming to, so I see no reason not to let topics drift as long as the debates are intelligent instead of malicious.
I mean, try to get them to pronounce the letter 'O'. They can't do it! What comes out of their mouths is something like 'eeeeaaaaauuuuuu' instead. NO THAT'S NOT IT PEOPLE. Say it with me. 'O' is not eauuu. It's O!
Of course, unlike many or most who can only talk about other folk's speech mannerisms when they're hiding in their room with a bag of Fritos, I'll say so right in front of said people. How 'bout you?
Incidentally...There's no such thing as 'classic Ebonics' either. Before it was called 'Ebonics', it was known as 'Black English'. Just another fictional term from the nauseatingly fragrant mind of Jeffrey...
Furthermore, the Oakland school district's recognition of 'Ebonics' had NOTHING to do with coddling African-American students who spoke poorly. It was an attempt to secure additional funding to teach them standard English.
So are there any more misconceptions to clean up?
Wait, there's this one...

Snicker. Oh, look! I knew some Black People. Card-carrying, official black people that knew the rest of 'them.' So whatever the couple dozen I knew said was the Official Way Black People Talk. Not one word of it has changed in the last 12 years since! Riggggggggggggggggggght.
Of course, all the typical JRS blowing and puffing was about what folks call a certain rap artist. Given that the entertainment press--you know, MTV, E!, and poorly informed folks--tend to spell it 'Fiddy' and he's never told them otherwise doesn't matter. If Sean Combs can change his moniker three times over and make sure his publicists spread the word, there's no way another artist who draws $20 to $70 million a year (per Forbes) would let them spell it other than the way he'd want it.
But never mind that. JRS has has fingers on the pulse of it all. They're all 'whack' and he's.......SNOOORRRRRRRRRT damn I'm sorry. I almost said that with a straight face!
In closing, I'd like to say this: Accents are funny. Nearly everybody has one. You sound 'normal' to yourself, but there's thousands of people somewhere else in the States who think you sound rather silly.
