Well, that sucks for you. I had to go back a second day to get the ride and credit. Hope it pans out. It's a killer ride.

Funny, I seem to recall a few -- myself included -- who warned of excessive downtime and problems but all we ever were told in return was "nah...this is Cedar Point, it'll always be running and at full capacity."

Gawd I hate to be right ;)

My first graduating student is defending his dissertation in early July, and then leaving town to join the faculty at UMass. I told him I'd treat him to a trip on Dragster if he'd do the same for me on S:ROS at SFNE this Fall. (True, I have a Six Flags pass, but he can buy lunch and the beer.). Thursday was the appointed day for Dragster, so I told him we'd just have to go again before his defense. :)

It is somewhat coincidental that the longest downtime for Dragster so far this year happens to include Coastermania. Thursday afternoon also saw two tech services folks in a crane near the top of Raptor's cobra roll. Much to our happy surprise, however, Raptor came up around sixish on Thursday.

Edit: You know how they say "it's not the razor, it's the blades?" Perhaps Intamin's profit is not the ride, but the replacement parts. "Oh, you need a new coupling for that hydraulic hose? That'll be expensive, but there's free second-day air shipping." ;)

Sorry to burst your bubble, but being closed for several days while the ride awaits replacement parts is hardly 'excessive downtime'. It has only been open for a month and a half, and an attraction of this caliber is bound to have difficulties. I suppose Cedar Point could have installed something a lot "safer" that would have had 'far less excessive downtime', but how much fun would that have been? I'd say not much.

But then again, I suppose your knowledge base on the Intamin rocket coaster is beyond question..... ;)

Geez, I love to throw out grenades in public.

opthodoc, are you kidding me? Have you been reading the reports on TTD? Basically, it has had about 1 day in a month in a half where it ran most of the day. MOST days it runs for 3 to 4 hours MAX. Now it is shut down for 2 1/2 days solid. I call that "significant" down time anyway you slice it.

I was at CP today and expected it to be shut down. What ticks me off is if this information is correct. Because at the entrance ALL day they were saying, it may run. If the original poster is correct they KNEW it would not run. I also called yesterday for a status and the lady said it may run today. If they knew it would not that is flat out lying. I would just appreciate some honestly on this. How difficult is it to say, we are waiting on a part, probebly wont run today?

I have never seen so much downtime on a new ride at Cedar Point. I think Cedar Fair should have done another smaller rocket coaster at a different park and worked more of the bugs out of this before going so big at its main park. This ride is obviously not ready. I just hope they get it going by the end of the season and I'am able to attempt another trip to CP this year.

I'm sorry if this is a redundant question....But is there any word on when this 2.5 days solid begins and ends?

Particularly, would anyone in the know have a clue if there is a chance of this new problem being rectified for Sunday at all?

Thanks,
Jason

How is waiting for replacement parts *not* excessive downtime, bud? Is the ride running? No? Then it's down, I believe. And for a long time, too. Excessive. Downtime.

Top Thrill Dragster -- The most intense, unbelievable, and spectacular fifteen seconds on any coaster, anywhere, ever.

Boy oh boy, you guys make it seem like guests at Cedar Point last year weren't having fun when TTD wasn't around at all. Face it, Cedar Point is worth the visist, with or without Dragster.

Man, absolutely. I wasn't even concerned about TTD being down last Monday. Was I fretting? Naw. Peabody on the other hand... sick. Just sick. So we went back, and it was all good. A great time had by all. We got the credit. Laughed all the way to Cincinnati. ;) Still, CP is the place for fun, and perfection. There isn't much to complain about there. It's like Holiday World, only a lot bigger.

I remember Wicked Twister was down during last year's Coastermania. Having the newest ride down because of mechanical problems 2 years in a row at an enthusiast event is disappointing. Maybe they should think about moving the event to a later date next year to have more time to work out the bugs in any new rides.
Man, its amazing. I do not understand how some of you cannot comprehend how someone may be disappointed that this thing is not running?? Yes, CP is typically great. But I have been on all the rides there besides TTD many, many times over the years. I still enjoy them but TTD is the main thing I wanted to ride. So YES, I was disappointed even though I knew it would not be running. Why? because I was still told yesterday when I called and today when I arrived and throughout the day that it MAY run. Now I read this and if its true CP was not being honest. So YES, that is upsetting and disappointing. WHY on earth is that bad and such a difficult concept to understand??? Some of you act like I should be bowing down when I arrive and thanking Cedar Point for admitting me and accepting my $43 to enter. Its an amusement park and business. They are not perfect and I think this ride is showing that. Customer service is paramount in this kind of business and most business's. Lying to your patrons or bending the truth (which is what was done today if the original poster is correct) is not good service.

This ride has some major problems, obviously. I dont know why people cant just say CP grossly underestimated this ride and it is not ready. There is no doubdt in my mind that they will get it running consistantly eventually. But to the general public that gets there once a year and went early, it is of little consolation. TTD is down more than it is running, that is a significant problem. They are advertising the hell out of a ride that is either not working or barely working most of the time. They are going to get upset patrons for this and they have a right to be upset.

Man o man, as big a fan of CP I am, CP is nothing like Holiday World! HW: Family Owned park by wonderful friendly people, 2 great wooden coasters, free drinks, free water park, free sunscreen, great events (well used to-- who knows if there will continue to be any now). CP: Huge corporate park, great capacity, horrid wooden coaster, ok wood coaster, a few great steel coasters, bunch of medicore coasters, resort complex, pay water park. How is CP like HW except bigger?? Sounds like a CP employee to me, y'know one of those ones who taunt SF employees that visit and act like their (you know what) doesnt stink. Have fun!! :)

But...Dragster is an Intamin ride. Wasn't "excessive downtime" pretty much gaurenteed from the start?

CP is NOT a larger version of HW...not even close. Have you even been to HW?

For the person who asked, TTD was open Wednesday, but it broke during morning testing on Thursday. So this downtime is expected to go until Sunday, thus having either 3 or 4 days closed, depending on when or if it opens Sunday.

I was at CP watching the guy from Intamin helping the park staff re-attach the cable - I was pretty annoyed, as I had flown all the way from England to go on this machine. Fortunately, I allowed four days at CP and ended up having three crazy rides on the front seat of TTD.

Building groundbreaking rides means taking risks, and I half expected not to get a ride on TTD at all.

Thanks to Erica (it was Erica, wasn't it? The launch really did my ears in!) for sharing that first ride on TTD with me - I'm really glad we waited for the front row!

To compensate for Dragster being down at Cmania we recieved Front Of the Line passes for any ride any time as well as a freeway pass for Dragster. On top of that we got ERT on Disaster Transport with the lights ON, extremely cool I tell ya, and Gemini which was racing and running the best I have ever seen it run.
