Track & supports spotted at SFA!!

BATWING says:

"...why would anyone report having spotted track in the park if there isn't any?"

How many times have people claimed they've seen track only to find out its something else? Heck, this happened just a week ago when someone claimed they saw supports at Knotts!

Those threads you mentioned about SFMM or SFGAm are always accompanied by photographic proof. Maybe not right when the thread starts, but pics show up soon after and if they don't the person[s] making the claims aren't believed.

Your post is very vague. "Some people" saw the track and "sources" say there are orange markings. Go get us some hard proof [pics] that the new track exists and I will gladly apologize to you for not believing you.

I think there would be much more noise about this if it were true. Just hearing that a couple of random, nameless people said they spotted some track leads me to believe that it just isn’t true. I’ll see for myself in a week or so, hopefully.

Track Record: 116

I agree with Moosh, the word "vague" may even be too vague to use in this situation. "The PRUUF will set you free!"

Can I get an amen from the congregation?

There's nothing like a woodie...

I agree with Mamoosh also ...and along the lines of 2Hostyl's post...We were there this past Saturday and rode Wild One and we did not see track either...however, like him, we weren't really looking. It may have been there, but we didn't see it. I will probably be there again this Saturday...I will surely be looking then.

NOTE: Don't do Fearanoia at SFA...it's lame and poorly run! ...the only good thing about it is that it's free...but then again, you have to walk around with that lame tatoo on your face.

I don't want BATWING FAN to think I'm dissing him, I just need better proof. If the track is indeed there he can proudly say "I TOLD YOU SO!" and I will gladly crow.

Several points:

To my knowledge, SF has never said that only 4 parks would get new coasters. They said that those 4 parks would get major new attractions to try to build attendance. They didn't say that now other parks would. In fact, I believe that there was a statement that parks the performed well might get new attractions as a reward of sorts.

Why do parks add new attractions? Number one, they don't do it because of what happened this year so much as because of what they hope will happen next year. This means that attractions can be added because of both increases and decreases in attendance.

Decrease the year: A new attraction next year can have a great value in advertising and bringing people into the park to bring attendance back up.

Increase this year: A new attraction next year can have a great value in advertising and bring people into the park to continue the upward trend. This upward trend may also indicate that the market for that park is good and it is a good place to expand. Also, a busy park may need more rides to increase capacity. People who wait too long in lines may get frustrated and not come back. They also aren't spending money in shops, on games, and on concessions when they are standing in line.

Notice that both Cedar Point and Holiday World are adding new attractions coming off good years.

As for what is actually happening at SFA, I will report after my trip Saturday if I make it there. I might have to cancel due to other commitments.

BATWING FAN SFA: Just to reverse it on you a bit, if I said definitively that SFA would not receive a new coaster, you would want some type of proof. Am I correct in this assumption?
I never said those 4 parks would get the only coasters in my earlier post I just said they were getting major attractions. That pretty much rules out the Intamin looper but a Wild Mouse or a family coaster would fit a small new ride description. I still have my doubts but you never know maybe SFA will get a coaster.

Hope this turns out to be true...SFA is a fun little park with some great coasters. I hadn't heard they were getting anything...wonder what it will be?

You said it Mike, remember all those awesome rides we got on S:RoS and Wild One during PPP weekend? I loved SFA, it's my favorite Six Flags park, even though I've only been to 4 of them across the country.

I hope that they do get a new coaster, I'd love to have another credit to pick up during PPP next year! ;) I still have to get Jokers Jinx.

Remember rule #1 about adding any major attraction at SFA-it has to be approved by the Prince Georges County Planning Commission. And guess what? I looked last night, and nothing's been approved, or even mentioned. Let's have some more specific information before posting a topic like this.

If coasters are your life, than maybe you need to re-examine your life.

Hmmmm New track appears at SFA just as Shockwave starts to tumble down. Coincidence?

chris, who loved Wild One, S:RoS, and Roar, and missed JJ, as well.

Good call, Chris. Here's a thought: Shockwave was tall and long enough for two coasters. SFAW get's half the lift, two loops, and the corks while SFA get's the other half of the lift, a loop, and the boomerang. Ta-da! Six Flags saves money by adding two "new" coasters from one old coaster.

'could happen!

'Believe It....Or Not.'
Now that's just a SICK thought, Moosh!

bwhahaha!

That's brilliant, Moosh!

I would actually be completely impressed with Six Flags' creativity, if they were to carry out something like this!!

sadly the cookie-cutter style of arrow loopers of that time would make that a possibility with minimal new track necessary.

very scary indeed.

I-Fan I know exactly what you mean about the PG county planning board requirements but keep in mind track for S:ROS arrived in october 99 and according to a printout of the application for Batwing it mentions that S:ROS was approved by the county on March 13th 2000,so it is logical to assume that track has already been delivered to the park and they will begin the application process with the county for permission to build the new coaster after the end of the season.

Keep in mind also that if track has indeed arrived the park is going to move it to an area where it is as hidden from view by the GP as possible, maybe we should also keep an eye open for anything unusual in gotham city near Batwing.

It is correct that Six Flags never said that SFGAdv, SFGAm, SFMM, and SFoT would be the only parks to receive major attractions. However, with Six Flags drastically cutting back on funding and already spending on five major projects, it's a little difficult to believe SFA is getting a major coaster. Remember that Six Flags cut way back on spending last year and only built six coasters (and that includes the small minor ones!).

It just seems to me that there's *little* evidence for it and a whole lot against it.

If the park had an increase in attendance, why would they need a new ride??? There are a number of SF parks that had a decrease, and therefore are receiving new rides in 2003 in order to increase the attendance. If the park did well, then SF can focus on the other parks that didn't do as well. You can't expect a park to build something every year. Most parks haven't seen anything new for a few years now. SFA has seen a number of new rides since it was branded a SF park, and its bringing the people in. So SF will focus on the other parks which are in need of help. Also remember, the Cap Ex is only at $125million for 2003, which doesn't leave a lot considering its known what some of the parks are getting already.

So if we follow your logic, SFA should have received a new ride this season after they lost money and attendance was down last season correct? In fact, they lost a ride. Sky Escape was removed.

You know, we really shouldn't be commenting at all on what we hear and see at SFA. There is a pretty vocal anti-SFA group in that section of the county. If they get any wind of a new coaster coming to SFA that could in anyway effect their quality of life, they will organize and do their best to put a stop to another coaster. So let's not speculate unless we know for sure something is coming, we could end up making the job of SFA Management extremely tough in getting this project approved IF it needs to go before a planning board.
