Tomb Raider Goes Vertical!

You would think that you could shoot junk while riding. What is Tomb Raider without killing stuff and destroying junk? I must admit that I have put a few bullets in the heads of innocent Monkeys and have wrecked a few ancient irreplaceable archioglical sites.

What I'm really hoping for is the change to move giant stone blocks that are about eight feet per side.

Crap... now I have an urge to go play Last Revalation since I never finished it in the first place. :)

Maybe it will be some type of new ride where you sit in a car like first genaration freefall cars or somthing, and t=you hit buttons to chose your desteny and then you ride based on that and it could be like pick left or right, then left could be a small freefall with a good theme and right could be like face the crazy deamons or somthing? who knows? i think  its ganna be a good ride no matter what it is.Anything  40mill has got to be better then a coaster becuase you can get a few coasters for 40mill so i dont think the park would make a stupid move as to spend that much money on a junk giant indoor top spin.
Re-read Rideman's last post. Paramount is spending $40 million total on their five parks, not just for PKI. That averages out to $8 million per park.

That's a conflicting story, though.  It has been said that this is the largest expansion ever at PKI, including the Action Zone expansion.  That was reported, although not to the entire group, at the media announcement.

Well, I re-read the press release and there's no mention of the cost and no reference to "the largest expansion ever at PKI."  I also read back through the news items here on CB and the only mention of cost I could find was in a post towards the end of this article.

I don't know....if it truly is their largest, most expensive expansion to date, wouldn't that be included in the press release?  Seems to me that's something they would want to hype as much as possible.

Jacob:
In this news item, you seem certain that it is a topspin.  Just curious, what made you change your mind?

Aaron,

If you read the entire news item, you'll see that I inquired specifically about what exactly those types of rides were, and that I had attributed the wrong names to the wrong rides.

Also, I was commenting on some other statements about "Inferno" being a totally different attraction.  The comment I made was also meant to say that this was the only new attraction, and that "Inferno" and "Tomb Raider" were the same thing.  This was the rumored ride we had heard about.

I have no idea what it will be like, they've promised something new.  If I absolutely had to guess, I'd say it's going to be a Huss Jump2, but calling it a mere flat ride in a can would be a mistake.  I'm sure there will be much more to the ride than just the ride system.  And to tell you the truth, I'd really like to wait until I ride it to find out what it is.

Aaron, the actual quote about the expense was not put into actual dollars that I remember (maybe Sean Flaharaty would remember), but I do recall the GM making the comment that it was an investment larger than that of Action Zone.

When you say Action Zone, is that just the Drop Zone and Face/Off expansion?  Or does it include SOB?

ColumbusCoaster: Action Zone does include SOB. Generally everything in back of King Kobra is considered part of AZ, more or less.

Jeff: You're correct, that actual quote was not put into actual dollars. And, from what I could tell from the announcement, the total for this project was for an 'expansion'.

Given that, I think it's pretty safe to assume that all the money that's being put into next year's project will not exclusively go to TR:TR. More than likely, if it is a well themed Top Spin, I doubt that it will cost more than 20-25 million itself, leaving millions left over for capital improvements. From what I've been hearing, the area may be transformed into a whole new 'zone' (and no, I'm not saying that Rivertown may be renamed, but I wouldn't put it past them, considering how much TR:TR would change things).

As far as TR:TR is concerned, does anyone have an amount for the theming effects on Posideon's Fury at IOA? Specifically the water tunnel effect? Since the same company who did that tunnel are working on TR:TR, that might be a better indication of cost on some of the props going into the ride. Thus giving a better idea on the cost of the ride. Given the building cost at roughly 3 million and the ride itself being considerably under 5 million (IF it's a top spin), you must have a boatload of money in theming and capital improvements outside the ride.

Just my opinion obviously, but it just doesn't add up for TR:TR to be more than 40 million by itself.

Chris

Think about if the scret of the ride is still intact when the park opens next April.  The first people to ride it will have no idea what they`re about to ride.  That in and of itself will make Tomb Raider: The Ride fun.  The surprise(s) of the ride.  People will probably want to re-ride it to see all the surprises again.

I heard from Jennifer Bowers that you had an option of riding 4 different ways. How could this be a huss top spin? It doesnt give you different ways to ride, only one.

When they anounced, on the news one of the reps said that riders would be strapped into a vehicle.  I don`t consider a car on a flat ride a vehicle.  Just some food for thought.

Lets not forget that they did mention that this attraction will have some type of track to it.
the building looks awfully small...

I taped the entire announcement and will have to go back and watching it to be sure, but I think his comments were more on a  "we spent this amount in the last two years, here is something else great" but without giving a total.  From what certain people at the park have told me, the R attraction won't be the most expensive ride in the park history. It will be expensive, and very elaborate, but I highly doubt it will be $40 million. /P>

While I was at Lake Compounce a couple of weekends ago, I had the chance to experiance every program on a op Spin, back to back. Each program was different and offered a variety of things.   If R is indeed something similar, I see no reason why the ride would not be able to offer different ride programs. /P>

P> I was at the park last hursday night. I was fairly close to the R building frame. Pictures don't do it justice. he building is much larger than I expected it to be. Also, I believe the actual ride may be just one fraction of the entire experiance. /P>
P>hat's just my opinion and not a fact. ake it as you will. All I know is from the sound of it,  PKI is going to have one heck of a ride next year. It won't be a coaster. It won't be a simulator. It will be something unique and certain to get your blood pumping. /P>
P>-Sean/P>
I`m sure whatever the ride is, flat ride or not, it will be a great ride.  Keep in mind that the last flat ride PKI added was Flight Commander in 1990.  Before that ride, which is no longer in the park, you have to go back to 1986 and the Zephyr, Dodgems and Skylab were added.  The latter of which has since been removed for a pay attraction.  So I would gladly welcome a new flat ride at PKI since its been more than ten years since a new one was installed at the park.  If this ride has theming anywhere close to Flight of Fear, I will be truly impressed.  Does anyone know when the park will open in 2002?
