The rides at Six Flags New Orleans

I believe they went over and beyond the $25 mil of upgrades. This also means the City of New Orleans should pay for the repairs.

A day at the park is what you make it!

I am not saying that SF didn't go beyond the $25MM, but it all depends on how the lease is worded as to which entity is in charge of the upkeep of the buildings, attractions and coasters on the property.

Just because you lease something from someone else does not indemnify you from having to take care of/repair said item if something was to happen to it. i.e. Many people lease cars. Those cars were caught in the flood. Is it the automaker's responsibility to repair your car? Nope. Uh-uh. No way. That's between you and your insurance company.

And for any upgrade that SF made above and beyond that $25MM, SF owns those upgrades, and as such would be the one liable for the repairs.

not really. Sure looking back at it after the hurricane, sure, they don't own much - if anything at the park now.

Yes, it was a gamble, and in hindsight turned out to be a boneheaded move. Just like Ohio. Just like the European parks. All this stuff seemed like a good idea to Kieran and Gary at the time... point is, they've got a track record of making boneheaded moves.

Six Flags may be able to claim they own Jester, as SF already owned that coaster and did not purchase it with the $25 mill. That's kind of funny if the case, the only ride they still own being one of the worst steel coasters in the chain that no park in their right mind would want.

All their coaster are gay.
Yep, we're getting near BanHammer time. Cya!

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

There are so many more important things for NO to spend money on right now that this suggestion isn't even credible enough to be laughable. Do you even read the paper, or do you just look at the pretty pictures?

Even if NO were responsible for repairing them (and I doubt that they are), I have four words for you: blood from a stone.

What is going to happen for the rides at SFNO? Are they going to relocate them or what?

Brian,

I answered the above question with my opinion.

I've paid an awful lot of attention to what is going on in New Orleans but we're not discussing the financial mess New Orleans is in, we're discussing the rides at SFNO and what is going to happen to them. Several people have questioned who owns the rides, all I did was point out, my opinion that if the City of New Orleans owns them then they should repair them instead of another cash strapped entity such as Six Flags (whether I'm right or wrong I don't know). Did I saw they should do it now? No! If you can't say something without insulting someone don't say it. I don't think I've insulted you.

redman822, you make a good point about the lease vehicles. However, if I rent a home, then the landlord is responsible for the maintenance of the various appliances. But, I agree with you, most likely SF needs to pay for the repairs. *** Edited 9/14/2005 10:47:40 PM UTC by coasterguts***

The City of New Orleans does realize that the amusement park is a valuable asset and still is key for the development of New Orleans East (well, with all the flooded out homes that probably will have to be bulldozed out there, there may be even more things to develop now!). It means a lot to the local economy even though they still have not recollected all the federal/city funding. The problem is helping fund the repairs. Hopefully insurance can possibly cover much of it, but more likely it will not be able to cover all the damage done. Since this is the worst natural disaster to ever happen to the country, it is likely that federal aid will be given to help the city get on its toes. Let's face it, without some sort of incentive (federal aid or what have you), there is almost no reason for a lot of people and companies to move back to the city.

It would be nice for a new suitor to manage the park, but I believe most would stay away from it since it has had a pretty poor run. The city of New Orleans has enough problems to manage and doesn't have the funds to even hire people to do the repairs! The Mayor announced the other day that the city doesn't even have a dime to spare. They are totally financially wiped out. I am hopeful that one day many of the problems that plague the city will be resolved and that the city will rebuild stronger than ever and attract new population and businesses in the gigantic rebuilding effort that lay ahead.

Good to see you're back Camera! When are you coming back to "the chat"?

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!
