Stupid Enthusiasts On Coaster Specials

Batwing Fan:

Yes, I did notice the mirror imaging. I wondered if they thought that this somehow improved the composition, or if they just goofed in production.

Well, I'm very pleased to see that what was originally a worthless, stereotyping piece-of-crap post has now become a thought-provoking, intelligent discussion on coasters and their POV footages. Way to turn a situation around, Buzzers! That's just one of the reasons why I love coming here! ;)

Jeremy was right besider her, I am surprised he has hearing left in his right ear ;-)"

Fortuneately, she was sitting on my right side. As a kid, I ruptured the eardrum in that ear and when it healed, it was not quite as elastic as it should have been. Consequently, everything in that ear sounds muffled compared to my left.

Oh and some other things about the girl: The play-by-play guy was her father and she was specifically asked to do that B-horror-movie-scream by the film crew.

Besides, if we were really shutting down people we disagreed with, would Jeremy (2Hostyl) still be around? :) I think not. - Jeff 1/24/02

Well....I can say, she achieved her objective. *scratchin head* She really wanted to scream like that??...

Anyways, I enjoy the shows. Makes me want to ride Raven, Legend and Ghostrider even more...

Dayuum, Your HOT!

I asked the show's director if they edited in screams for effect. They said absolutely not, they never had to. Well, after Raven, I see why they do not have to pipe them in.

Kevin Reid has the funniest shot of us in the Raven station during the filming of it. I'll have to see if he can share...

I couldn't match real life names with screen names. So i never would have known that Shaggy was on there.

The only beef I have was on extreme rides 2002 I swear on my life that the woman on Thunderbolt said "This is one of the oldest wooden coasters in the world." I could be mistaken though.

By the way Shaggy i couldn't stand listening to you, your inability to intelligently speak about the ride disgusted me.LOL...just joking you were great.

As for the guy on X, i don't feel that he was dumb, just seemed taken away by his favorite ride. And if any of you could have done a better job why did they pick him and not you?

Oh, thank heavens! I was afraid that was leftover audio of me riding The Legend for last year's Extreme Rides. How humiliatin'! Yes, I'm a total weenie. :)

Ha Ha! Awww c'mon Paula, I enjoy footage of the more unexperienced riders much more than the footage of those of us who have to muster up some sort of artificial "scare." You gotta love that footage of you and Mr. King, you were legitimately terrified.

Have you ridden the "New" Legend yet?

No offense to anybody personally who did any commentary. I applaud you for doing it and enjoying yourself. That being said....

I think a pretty good chunk of the commentary was lame and a bit stiff. A little overemphasis on some things and over the top reactions. Yeah, I know....the parks/Discovery dictates a lot of that. A camera in your face...act this way, look excited. Combine all that with the fact that some people are just not natural born public speakers and you have some awkward narrations.

See the Phantom's Revenge clip....girl describing ride while not riding coaster: "Phantom's Revenge is sooo (shoulders bouncing back to really punctuate this last word) extreme!" Yeah, I'm paraphrasing the exact quote, but it was the stuff like that that made me cringe a little. I had no problem with the guy doing X. He was pretty good. There were others that were good. SoB was good...even though I had trouble believing that SoB was THAT good. At least not when I've ridden it. Different strokes for different folks though.

What I would rather see is short clips of comments from several enthusiasts off the ride. Then you can pick and choose the best stuff. Maybe Discovery could lay off the dictations to act too much. Probably can't kill the narrations on ride entirely, but it can be better I think if they change something. I don't know what at the moment.

And no jealousy from me. I had my chance for the SoB shoot, but couldn't do the late schedule change, and I probably would sound as stiff as anybody else might have. So what? I still say, take short clips from a bunch of enthusiasts talking about the ride and it will work better.

Are these shows planning on coming on again anytime soon? They sound great. I was at PKD this past weekend and missed everything. Thanks for any help.

I don't know about you but I have a MAJOR issue with the ranking of the steel coasters on the "Top Ten" segment shown on Discovery last night - you know what I mean - GOLIATH (of all things) tie MILLENNIUM FORCE for (get this...) SECOND PLACE???!!??? And what makes it worse, BOTH coasters were ousted by INCREDIBLE HULK!!!!!!! I'm still burning up..... I would think poking fun at those featured in the specials would be the very LEAST of your worries.....

My favorite was the woman who tattooed herself with various Cedar Point signage. If I can sound like Chris Farley for a second here - "she was AWESOME!!!!"

Yeah, personally I was suprised that Hulk beat the Force, as I've ridden both and so far only the Force has felt like an out of body experience. (Then again maybe that was the air time on the last bunny hill.)

Hulk's a great ride but I like (as CP Games employees call it) "The Millennium" better, but what are ya going to do?
