Here's the thread on Usenet... Once I knew the title Google eventually managed to find it. Now I remember why I cared so little for Usenet back in the day. So much noise!

At least the noise here is somewhat mature. :)
Corkscrew Follies, I rode SOB the second week that it was opened (I believe that it opened late for some reason), and it was the worst ride experience of my life. I wanted off. I feared I would need an ambulance if it got any worse. I knew that something was very, very wrong with the ride.
Ironically, I rode SOB for a second time just two weeks before it closed for good, even though I had dozens of chances to ride it before, and it wasn't as bad as before, but it was still intolerable, to me anyways. My teenage cousin loved it, and rode it a few more times afterward.
I've probably told that story more than a few times, maybe even in this thread. lol

I rode SOB once, when it was about a month old. I don't remember it being as bad as everyone says that it was. Granted it was basically brand new when i rode it. I have no opinion how it was as it aged or even how it was after the loop was removed.
I rode it a few weeks after it opened at ACE Con. It was horrible!
Maybe he's suggesting that on the off chance a twister blew through Mason and destroyed only SOB, it would be a good thing. Or am I reading into it too much? ;)

Mature? Who farted :) That word always gets me, as does 'normal', down to earth, friendly, etc., etc. ...
I think there are as many definitions of mature as there are people. That's where arguments and 'better-than' comes in ;)
Does anyone here really think SOB will ever operate again? Are 'I think' threads or high-jacks permitted?

That's OK Travis :) I sure don't remember every thread and every story (and or every complaint) and I enjoyed your little story :) SOB took me 3 rides to really REALLY realize something was wrong. I saw corners in the track.

Oops. Sorry. I didn't know that you were here when I did it. :)
So umm, Son of Beast... TAER IT DOWN! ;)

TAER TEAR RAET EART; E<->F; FART :)
It's hell bein a genious.
I wonder if the concrete footers would even be re-usable? Maybe they will salvage part of the lift, kind like the Crystal Beach Cyclone.
The smartest move is changing the name to something dumb like "Beast 2.0" and rebuilding it from lift hill on as a relatively smooth prefab out and back that anyone in the family can ride. So I'm sure they'll TAER IT DOWN.
Why would they TAER IT DAOWN, when they could TIER IT DOWN!!?:)
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Honestly, I think the only reason that this ride is still standing is that they're waiting to see how the Texas Giant to-steel conversion turns out. If it's successful, I see SOB (and Rattler at SFFT, and possibly Mean Streak @ CP) getting a similar treatment. To me, that's both good and bad.
Good: Some of the dead spots on the ride can be improved/spiced up with some airtime... areas like the hill after the first drop (see also: the new double up on Texas Giant), and the loop could come back. /optimist
Bad: A helix is a helix is a helix. The Texas Giant mod basically follows the same course as the original, steepening drops and adding hills where possible. That said, Texas Giant's layout was already fairly dynamic. SOB's is not. Smoother is better, but it might just put more of a focus on how much time the thing spends turning aimlessly in circles. /cynic
I'd prefer a TAER DOWN. Hopefully KI learned its lesson the first time and will, in the future actually leave the designing to folks with some talent for large woodie layouts (TGG, pre-fab edition Intamin spring to mind).

It's gonna take a year or two, to find out if the texas giant redo is a winner. I am not sure that kings island just wants a giant coaster sitting there collecting dust. I say get rid of it and start over.

I'm guessing that Texas Giant is not the only project they are watching.
Wait a minute...Texas Giant is getting steeper, longer drops in the same footprint as the original ride?
Did Six Flags learn nothing from Gaylord's mistakes with the Rattler?

Yeah, they did this one with steel rail ;).
I found my media kit for son of beast. If you want to check it out, look here....

I hate rumors, but I had heard a few chirps about the rose bowl getting ripped out, and an out and back section replacing it.

Funny, the only place I have ever heard that rumor is from *me* and I am known to not know anything about it. :)

Who had the great idea about putting two helix's in the ride layout? I would prefer an out and back.
