Son of Beast closes

Yeah, Worlds Largest Bon Fire coming to KI July 2010.
I hope my season pass gets me in an hour early and for free!

Well, I guess you must really have your cheering Pom Poms when Mean Streak opens for the season at Cedar Point....going. "Go Mean Streak. Go Mean Streak. Go Mean Streak....GOOOO! Mean Streak!!! YEAH!"

All while people who just got off the ride are attempting to give you the finger with the hand they aren't bracing the back of the neck with, while they try to re-align the spines after riding the mountain of crap.

I'm just kidding with you of course.

But, here's a ride you might enjoy. You ride on this coaster, tied to it until the ride is over. The train crams through it's course at 65 miles an hour. The cars are attatched to a jackhammer that goes off as soon as your train goes down the first drop. Throughout the ride there are thousands of tiny wet plastic balls that are shot at you from all directions. You come out at the end beat red from the beating just just received, because you decided to wear shorts that day. You get off this ride so sore you can hardly walk. Very sore.

I just described riding mean streak in a hail storm. Sound fun?

I've personally never had a rough ride on Mean Streak. The trim on the first drop is a little jarring, but I've never found the ride to be rough. I just don't think it's fun in any way. It's always been boring and just meanders thru the course.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

My last ride on Mean Streak (2nd row, gold train) was awful. I may try it again, but I will make sure I am on a different train and in the very first row.

The only -- and I mean only -- way I will ride Mean Streak is the very first row (not even the 2nd row of the first car), with my back off the seat back. That's the only way I can avoid pain. Several years ago I made the mistake of riding in the last seat and it was pure torture.

I have a feeling that since there are still many people riding Brown Streak, CP is unlikely to switch to Timberliners, Millennium Flyers, or steel track. Whereas Son of Beast isn't running at all and is just taking up space, so there's more incentive to come up with a fix (even if the fix is scrapping it).

While we are speaking of, I think that papa Beast could use them as well, and allow the removal of the trims, but I think it would almost lose some of it's character/charm if that happened.

Beast, loose charm? Hmmm... think most of it's charm was stamped out in the late 80's and suprisingly continued through the 90's. I guess the orange lap bars are a Beastily color.

I would wonder if GravityKraft would even allow their new trains on something like SOB. Other than being wood, I think SOB has a different type of structure, wood, etc., etc., that has really caused many of its problems.

I'm just guessing - GravityKraft will make their own decisions.

Being a new train design, proving its worth on something "classic" like Beast has a tremendous upside - other parks are watching, and it could help drum up considerable business. However, when I think of Sonny, seems to me that there's too much potential downside to putting their reputation at risk on something that's already such a colossal failure in so many ways. Sure, *if* GK made a rideable Sonny, that would prove their trains' mettle....but the risk seems too high, IMO.

Most likely scenario IMO - Sonny will sit idle through this season, TX Giant will run with the new stel trackage in '11, and CF will decide the fate of Sonny once they see the results.

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

Beast and SOB are by far the only coasters in the CF chain that would benifit. Want to ride the Timber Wolf as it was meant to be? How about Mean Streak? Grizzly? The company could use up its ptc parts over the next twenty years on the racers and rebel yells of the chain.

Screamscape is reporting some land clearing behind SoB and www.SonofBeast.com is forwarding guest to the I-305 site.

It looks as if they might "Taer it Down"!

That makes me happy.

I never had heard of SonOfBeast.com? What in the world was on this site? So do we have FlightOfFear.com, Racer.com, PirateShip.com.....

Don Helbig said at yesterdays Coasting For Kids event that they haven't decided what they are going to do with SOB yet, and that all the internet rumors are false. He also said that they will not decide what to do with it until next year.

Except one of the internet rumors is that the park won't decide until next year. And if all the internet rumors are false, well.....now my head hurts.

The statement below is false.

What about my "rumor" that they're waiting for the results on Texas Giant? ;)

Mamoosh's avatar

That's false.

I think CF learned their significant overhaul lesson on Disaster Transport.

I couldn't even imagine a overhaul costing ten mill on TG until I heard the track was gonna be steel and significant structure rebuild and retooling was going on. New trains ect. Basically new big ride for 10 million with some similarities to the old.

They'll have to make a decision sometime. I sure its sound for a couple years of neglect except for motors and bearings.but sometime..........

(Rolls eyes) I was paraphrasing. You're welcome, by the way. :p
