Son of Beast closes

You should have put a winkie face at the end of that statement, Demon.

I'm sure Moosh will say that he knows, but maybe not. ;)

---

SOB's loop was one of the selling points of the ride when it first opened. It's what made it unique. If anything was done as far as re-tracking with steel or whatever*, I really hope that the loop would come back. I hated SOB, but I think that it had one of the coolest loops on a coaster that I have ever rode, and I only rode the pain inducing death trap twice, over dozens of visits to the park.

*which seemingly can not be done under current scientific reasoning to SOB, but can with TG. ;)

For me the loop was a positive. Not sure if it was really the great of a loop or just that it was a break from the pain from the rest of the ride.

Actually I have no idea. I assume it was sold for scrap...which is a fate that should befall the rest of the ride.

I need to practice winking ;) lets see if that works.

I think the SOB structure was born with many problems, different treatment than other woodies, etc. Basically, just 'effed up' but don't quote me on that.

I'm sure the thought of replacing the track with steel will come into play if it hasn't already. Keep the awesome, creepy, steep lift, and just replace the rest with a new 'fun' design (and bring back the loop!) That's my bid!

How about they just burn it down , and build an el toro or voyage. Problem solved...people happy.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

^Or even something much cheaper... like Hades. When that ride opened, I thought it was an incredible ride for the price - one that would be HUGE in a 'big' park (little weary about the state Hades may be in now...)

Yeah, the loop was scrapped.

It's been removed from the park map

It would be kinda silly to put it on the map since they already said it won't open this year.

Pity the GP who don't know the park well and get all turned around because the really, really big rolly coaster isn't on the map.

It won't be any worse than it was back in '85 when I don't think too many people were too badly confused by the Bat...

I'm trying to remember back 25 years. I'm not sure if that was the same situation as Son of Beast now. Was the Bat SBNO, but removed from the map? Or did KECO try to operate it for the 1985 season?

For what it's worth, I was being a little sarcastic. I'm sure the GP will survive just fine.

I think it was always on the map, but it was SBNO for various periods of time from '81-'83.

I had a map that I bought from the park one of the years that The Bat was SBNO, and it was definitely on there.

I wish I could remember where I put that. I know it's around here somewhere.

Mike: That was actually before I made my first visit to Kings Island. Honestly, I don't know for certain how things went down with the Bat. I do know that it was SBNO for at least one entire season. In other words, I was being about as serious as you were. :)

That's great news to here, KI is just waiting for a contractor to tear it down for good. Then put up a better ride in it's place.

I believe in fairies, but there is no proof of their existence.

Daniel Smith, can you please offer some kind of proof to back up your very good news?

Daniel Smith's avatar

LostKause, sorry I don't have any proof of that. I can remember back in '06 during Oct the park didn't have SOB on there park map, but then it opened up the next summer around the 4th of July.
