Six Flags Magic Mountain to reclaim coaster crown in 2010

Addict - that listing has been on rcdb for about two years, ever since Shapiro mentioned plans for a 2010 coaster at an ACE event.

I am not sure what your point is. The length of time that the listing has been there does not change the fact that it could be about a kiddie coaster for Wiggles World.

Trips to SFMM in 2009: 8 so far with 3-4 more planned.

I'm reading conflicting reports.

The LA Times Blog references Shapiro twice, quoting him saying that a new coaster is coming to Magic Mountain in 2010.

But here, Shapiro is quoted saying Magic Mountain will be introducing a "new children's ride." http://newsplusnotes.blogspot.com/2009/09/six-flags-blogger-call-ii.html

What I find odd is that even if this 2010 coaster is a Wiggles World ride, why wasn't the entire Wiggles World land mentioned instead of just a single new ride?

Hey, Batman .....ain't that bad. Its my favorite invert.....after Raptor, after Fire Dragon, after untrimmed Montu, after Ursa Major. So yeah, its a pretty good ride.

I'm not surprised that they are vying for the crown again. Also, I knew it was only a matter of time before the CP vs MM debacle (circa 2001) resurface. The good thing is that I think the community has matured considerably since then.

Maybe it's time for another true "kiddie" coaster at CP. They're cheap to erect, relatively easy to maintain over time, and the ones that are there do seem to pull in the crowds. I've often seen Woodstock Express with lines of 30 minutes +. (As I think of it, Ava didn't ask to ride it even once this year. They grow up fast. *sniff*)

How about a nice Vekoma junior suspended standing over Planet Snoopy?

My point is that when Shapiro made the comment it most likely was his intention to build a new coaster at the park. In the 12+ months that have followed a lot has changed both internally in his company and with the U.S. economy. Let's not forget California's unemployment rate is higher than the national average.

I suspect the big coaster Shapiro wanted to add has been put on hold...unless kRaX is right and the coaster Shapiro hinted at those many months ago was nothing more than a kiddie coaster.

I'm not saying that things don't change. But, he said the words "Kiddie Coaster" at the ACE event.

As for battling CP for the coaster title, I think that's just a sidenote to the story. SFMM has been out of that race since they "won it back" and shot themselves in the foot in 2001. Whatever they are adding, it's not directly to tie CP, rather something that will happen again when another coaster opens.

We all know the BIG plans for 2010 are to add an on-ride sound system & flame effects to Gold Rusher.

Pass da' sizzrup, bro!

For all we know, CP's got plans to "bring it back to Sandusky," in 2011.

Begun, the second decade of the coaster wars have.

I'm still waiting for my tri-racing/dueling PowerPuff Girls kiddie coasters. ;). Cheap and simple way to pad the count.

The new "family" coaster will be built in the Northwest corner of the park near Terminator Salvation: The Ride...it opens early Summer 2010.

Looks like we should be expecting Tony Hawk's Big Spin?

If that is what it turns out to be I will not be very excited, since I have already been on Sierra Sidewinder at KBF. Of course I will still ride it and it will probably still be a fun ride. SS is not the most exciting/thrilling coaster out there, but it is still a lot of fun. THBS would probably be similar, even though the seats face in instead of out.

I think you have a higher spin potential on the inward facing spinners. Though i think the best spin potential is on the spinning mice that have everyone sit on the same side. On any of the models, there is a certain amount of luck in combination with weight distribution to create that perfect spin.

I have found that the Sierra Sidewinder spins the most if you have one person in each row and they are sitting on opposite sides of the train. It is also pretty good if you have two people sitting together and nobody on the other side. The back car also seems to spin the most. The Screamin' Demon at Castle Park has everyone sit on one side and it spins pretty well no matter how many people are riding.

And here I thought I was the only one who called it that with any regularity... :)

I remember realizing that what sounded like a dumb name for a coaster was really just another way of calling it the "Big Dipper".
