Six Flags Great Adventure announces the world's tallest, fastest coaster

Six Flags Great Adventure announces the world's tallest, fastest coaster today. Kingda Ka will be an Intamin rocket launching 128 mph in 3.5 seconds reaching 456 feet tall. It will be configured similarly to Cedar Point's Dragster, only with a drawn-out 129-foot bunny hill.

Coasterlover:I'm sure there probably won't be anything left in the budget for any other parks next year which means you won't see me at SFA next year.....I've practically decided already not to get a 2005 season pass.

At least PKD is getting tomb raider so I'll have something new to look forward to,even if it's only during one vist for the entire season.

Here's to the downfall of SFI,they had a chance in this region but by neglecting to add new rides frequently they blew it,good bye SFA hello PKD.

Holy crap, are you serious? You were wrong about SFA getting a new coaster AGAIN? Aww, that's never happened before, I'm so disappointed in you!

Too bad SFA is so neglected. I can't believe they'd only have coasters like Joker's Jinx, S:RoS and Roar. What cretins. How can they possibly expect someone to be satisifed with that piddly collection ...

This coaster looks amazing, Im very happy GADV is making this a whole new section that is for everyone not the thrill seekers. They did it the right way with making a new section and adding additional rides, and not just plopping the coaster alone in any old spot. BATWING FAN im sure you wouldnt be saying those things about SFI if this coaster was added at your home park. Why not just travel a few hours and go to GADV?
Hmmm...Having ridden both Top Thrill Dragster and Storm Runner...

I think I'm glad Cedar Point got Dragster first. That rabbit hop would be cool with a Dragster train. With a Storm Runner train, it is just as likely to positively suck.

ApolloAndy: There are ways to rip streams. If you figure out a way to do it, let me know...I hate having to watch video streams in 6-second increments because WiMP won't buffer correctly...

Howard Stern's bustin' on the name right now by the way ;) ... and he sounds scared of it!! Heh. Although Artie and Robin are going to go ride it - they're pumped for it, Howard wants to puke. Well, I guess I was wrong about the advertising.
I think its a total waste to have a bunny hill if the ride has OTSR. yeah it will still be cool, but the efect that had a possibility to absalutly amazing, will be lost, and i dont think that the ride will be better than dragster simply becasue of the restraints it has.
I bet Intamin is working really hard to eliminate the launch related issues plaguing TTD.

But what about the dual station system?

Has any other high-capacity coaster successfully implemented a dual station, single track layout? In my mind, the track switches have a lot of large moving parts that must be positioned precisely for each and every coaster launch.

I don't want to wish SFGA any problems, but if I were the owner, I wouldn't invest in any non-essential features for new coaster design with known reliability issues.

"I'm actually quite happy with this coaster. It isn't a clone and it beats the records by a lot, not by a few feet or mph like with Steel Dragon 2000. Thank god I'm moving to Phily next year"

How is that not a clone? It's identical minus the bunny hill. And by a lot? 36 ft and 8 mph aren't much at all. I was expecting more than that. And Dave has a good point. Long airtime with OTSR's is gonna suck, if not hurt. If you had the lapbars it would seem much more enjoyable. The press release should read "This NIBBLES All Records!"

Whatever. I found tons of air on Storm Runner with the OTSRs. I don't see what's so horrible about them. These aren't Arrow OTSRs we're talking about here. In Keith's POV video, it looks like that bunny hop (is a 129-foot hill really a bunny hop?) has RIDICULOUS air.

So Wicked Twister must be a clone of Superman: Ultimate Escape/Steel Venom, which must be a clone of Linear Gale. Or not.

Two words: Storm Runner!

I did too. Storm Runner's OTSRs are very comfortable and unobtrusive. The duel loading station on Storm Runner so I'm wondering how SF is going to get 4 trains on there. Storm Runner's system runs very efficient so I'm sure they will have no problems (it's a hell of alot better than Dragster's system).

I wonder about the 270 degree twist though. You'd think SF would want to try something different with the drop but maybe the twist is needed to keep down the Gs? Who knows, but I do agree with Wicked Matt...It doesn't really "shatter" records. Dragster shattered records, this merely beats out Dragster. I guess this all helps setup Cedar Point breaking the 500ft barrier ;)

I'll go on record right now and say I hope Cedar Point never breaks 500'. There are so many other options out there for good coasters. Quality over size...if you get my drift.*** This post was edited by wahoo skipper 9/29/2004 10:54:36 AM ***
Dragster shattered "full-circuit" coaster records, but Magic Mountain shattered it overall a few years before even Millennium Force. ;)

TTD beats STE by 5 feet, That's not a lot...I call 38 feet breaking the height record by a pretty good amount. ;)*** This post was edited by NYCoasterGuy 9/29/2004 10:56:24 AM ***
Since when did 8 MPH faster equal an additional 36 feet in height?
I'm willing to bet SF is incorporating the ol' S:TE trick to propel it farther into the record books. In short: the station's on a higher point of land than the hill.

Is it taller than TTD? Sure. Faster? You bet.

But is the elevation from station to peak less than 456 feet? I'm saying yes.

The station isn't any higher off of the ground than TTD's station is - the land is relatively flat - I don't see any tricks being pulled here.

That was my thought too Playa - S:TE is in the record books as over 400, but isn't track height difference like 330 or something? TTD's vertical track difference is 400' exactly I believe, so I'd say this one's like 410' or 420'. Even in the animations, the station looks to be a "floor" or two off the ground, if I remember the stairs going up to it correctly.
okay I admit that I'm a CP fanboy and I'm not very happy that TTD's record will be broken. But is there that big a difference between 124 mph and 128 mph? (TTD is listed in the Guinneses(sp) as 124 mph) When you are going that fast, does it really make a difference? Plus that bunny hill looks pretty sweet but how much air do you really expect to get with the OSTRs? Enjoy your record GADV, because Cedar Point will definitely build a 500 ft. coaster in 2006 or 2007, the last year for Dick Kenziel.
