Six Flags Great Adventure announces the world's tallest, fastest coaster

Six Flags Great Adventure announces the world's tallest, fastest coaster today. Kingda Ka will be an Intamin rocket launching 128 mph in 3.5 seconds reaching 456 feet tall. It will be configured similarly to Cedar Point's Dragster, only with a drawn-out 129-foot bunny hill.

Read more from AP via MSNBC.

Dammit ! I just knew I wouldn't be the first to post the article !! I just read it in the "Trentonian" paper on the way to work. I can't wait to ride this thing. I'm glad they added an additional air-time hill to at least make it somewhat original.

I'd imagine the bunny hill will be amazing, Impulsive. Its not like Intamin doesn't know how to engineer amazing airtime hills like that. You'll probably float the whole way over the top, I'd imagine.
According to the PDF from sixflags website it will have otsrs, a dual loading station allowing for 4 trains.
ok now i can sit here and drool for a few months until next season only bad thing is how do i divert from SFGAdv until after i get my friends to CP next year.....
If you think about it, the theming could have been identical at Cedar Point. All they had to do was re-open Jungle Larry's Safari Island an voila. ;)
Do you really think that the general publick will beable to handle the speed? I hered people at cp say that they rode ttd once and that's all they could handle, but they were glad to experience it.
As to the Bunny Hill being worthless...
I think we need to keep in mind that unless it's braked we'll be hitting it at well over 100 mph... correct, physics guys? At that speed it doesn't need to be magnum shaped to provide some nice airtime.

And as to the name...
sounds like a three year old reciting the Lord's prayer
"Dy Kingda Ka, Dy will be da, on urff ad id id in hebbah'

People drive faster than this on motorcycles so yeah the human body can handle it... the issue is do you have the guts to do it!

I'm actually quite happy with this coaster. It isn't a clone and it beats the records by a lot, not by a few feet or mph like with Steel Dragon 2000. Thank god I'm moving to Phily next year!
Mikw S. said "im wondering if it translates into anything"

Actually it does. It is ancient Trentonic (the people who lived in the area that is now New Jersey in the 12th century B.C.). Scholars are split on what the phrase "Kingda Ka" actually translates to in English. They have narrowed it down to one of two things. 1) "Kingda Ka = Yet another ride to be closed much of the time" or 2) "Kingda Ka = Get inline now for your Qbot if you ever want to ride this thing."

It does have OTSR's and has a duel station. There are two trains for every station for a total of 4 trains.
This is interesting. Here are some concerns about this.

1. Will six flags be able to handle the mechanical issues that come with this type of ride.

2. Has Intamin fixed the dragster problems we have seen at the point, before Six Flags bought this.

3. One would think that Cedar Point would have a clause that would not let anyone else build one of these for a couple of years.

The bunny hill will be taken at speeds over 100mph, and apparently it is desgined to have a sustained float over it.

I am getting a kick out of the people who are disappointed with this ride though. I mean what the *hell* did you think they would do with 128mph and the location of the footers? Spend $100M and take a scenic journey around the park? Get real.

Joe "the only thing disappointing to me is the fact it has those lame SR harnesses" C.

The "complaint" I was referring to was the OTSRs. Looks like people aren't being too rarrrarrrarrr-y about it. :)

Most people seem to enjoy Storm Runner, but I know a few people that "hated it" and found the restraints to be painful. That worries me just a little, but this isn't *quite* as twisted as SR is anyways. Good luck Great Adventure! This is an exciting new toy that will definitely compete with Hydra and Turbulance.

How much down time will it have before people start calling it King Ka Ka?
I'm not so rarrrarrrarrr-y about it (as Danny so eloquently put it) because the sheer magnitude of the ride and its surrounding flora and fauna are quite an impressive package. I can't say I'm pleased with the decision, but in light of Intamin's recent problems with restraint systems, I can't say I'm surprised by the move. My money's on a retrofit within five to ten years, though now that I've bet, I'm sure I'll turn out to be wrong. ;)

The thing that most impresses me is the attention to detail they seem to be putting into the theming. This will be far from the parking lot coaster we all anticipated, and instead will be the anchorpiece of a whole new themed land. Kudos to Six Flags for really going all out and making sure they did this one up right.

My only concern is that the Golden Kingdom is being made out to be a primarily children's ride area. I can see this eventually being a problem, since the images appear to indicate that Kingda Ka will be at the back end of the area. I think this is a poor traffic control idea, and I hope they find a way to have two entrances/exits to the Golden Kingdom (a la Frontier Adventures and Movie Town) to prevent any bottlenecking.

All things considered though, so long as what's in those press animations ends up on the terrain in spring '05, I predict my post-midterm coursework will be taking a significant decline in quality! ;)

This is a coaster only Six Flags had the balls to put together.

Seriously, look at the aerial pics already!

I think the best thing about The Golden Kingdom is that it will have something for everyone. While the thrillseekers are riding Kingda Ka, mom can take the kids to the children's area or grandma can take a stroll through the tiger exhibit (which the entire family can do together as well). They're thinking about everyone at the same time and since they had their anniversary year for "general improvements" in 2004, they *should* have their act together for solid operations. They have a *huge* chance to leave a mark (positive or negative) on guests in 2004, so I hope they do it the right way...

Eh, I wouldn't put so much money on having grass under the ride...don't you think they would have ripped up the parking lot by now?
