Should CP's next coaster be wood?

I realize the park is on a building boom, Not only to keep the record but for marketablility. (If this new coaster is the largest)

Im just wondering what you think about their next coaster being wood. It's been 12 years since Mean Streak, (A coaster they had nothing but problems with).

Now Intamin and Vekoma are in the game big time. I hear Vekomas are good and Intamins seem to be almost perfection.

Do you see CP getting another woodie or not?

Chuck, who says even if it is 4-5 years from now that they build their next coaster.

Is it about coasters or friends? I say both!

Should they? yes

Will they? I don't know...

They need an extremely massive Intamin plug N play woodie and an extremely steep 72 degree drop FULL of airtime!!!

I say no--because a corporate park would never go for the violent air, twisting drops and innovative use of terrain we already get from HW, IB, Big Chief's et al.

IMHO CP should stick to the usual big and steel. Now that they've done big, bigger and biggest maybe they'll go for more inversions or something. Mmmmmm......Intamin dozen-looper...

Well Cedar Fair did go along with the Knott's Family's plans for Ghostrider, and they've done a good job maintaining it along with shivering timbers (two rehabs a year!).

Yes, but they never planned either one of their world-class CCIs. Think about that. If they chose the layout, would they be what they are today? I have my doubts...

I'm sure a lot of us would like to see a nice new woody at CP. Even a clone of Ghost Rider would be a nice treat.
I'm hoping for wood in 2005.

No, unless it is properly maintained and has the "ruff" & out of Control feeling that a true woodie has!!! Which might be a problem if they chose to go with a plug and play from Intamin. Cedar Fair has made a decent amount of deals with Intamin as of late, so who knows there could be another one coming down the chute.

“If you give a enthusiast a footer.......He’ll want a coaster!!!"

I can't think of a single reason why Cedar Point should or would build a wooden coaster in the near future.

"Opening in 2004! "Mid-Streak"! A new 120ft Gravity Group wooden masterpeice that we're installing just for those crazy, airtime lovin' enthusiasts"!

"Our maintanance staff will be workin overtime to keep this new monster in tip-top shape! Holiday World ain't got a thing on us"!

..."and remember, bigger ISN'T always better"! ;)

With this newest installation, CP coasters seem to be all about hype and records more than quality. They could not build a wooden coaster that would be quality and that they could give their typical hype to.

Intamin wood in the US would be great though. Right now we have American Eagle, which imo is excellent. Especially the huge helix. An american verison of White Cyclone with wonderful helixes at each end would be welcome.

And of course, GCI is producing some of the best looking and best riding coasters going now. Ohio would definitely benefit from one of these originals. Tough choice between the two, but what Ohio definitely does NOT need is another CCI style out-n-back, between racer, villian, big dipper and blue streak, we have enough of those.

Playa, I am going to dissagree with you %100 on the corprate parks won't build violent air machines. Millie, S:ROS, Villain are examples of violent air,

So whats the daym difference if it's wood? Intamin even uses the same restraint system on it's woodies.

Chuck, who though maybe they'd think about it now that Intamin has proven they can build reliable, low maintence woodies.

*Should* they... I'm going to go out on a limb and say NO. I just don't think the GP there is going to go for a wooden coaster. Especially one that is 120ft tall. It would have to be the world's largest or longest wooden.

SROS is a no-brainer and I'll even give you Villain, but Millie? I've experienced air on Millie but none of it was violent.

Millie violent? Huh? One good (smooth) bump is hardly violent air. Villian, violent? Violent, maybe...but violent air?

I'm not gonna make fun of you--I'm a little too depressed by your standards of violent air already. Let's just say sombody needs a trip to Wisconsin. 'Clops has violence at 10 am that even Cornball Express doesn't have until after dark. And speaking of CE...

Yes, good wood is desperately needed at CP. Mean Streak is OK at best, and Blue Streak can give a good ride, but, they really need a signature woodie.

Any wood coaster they build SHOULDN'T be about some sort of record, other than adding to the coaster count. Mega-wood seems to equal mega-problems. A nice wood twister like Roar East @ SFA would be a very good addition to CP's line up.

TiggerMan....I'm gonna *guess* that Mega-wood amounting to mega-problems has more to do with the LAYOUT than anything else. Lots of lats + high speeds, IMO, will give you a nice hefty maintenance budget it's true, but my assumption is that you could have a nice TALL out-n-back woodie (a la Timbers but with more height/speed) with *relatively* few problems...

bill, hoping some US park decides to *test the theory*....:)

As long as it replaces Mean Streak, I say yessss!
