Shockwave Info. Updated

I would think that from the pics I've seen there was alot of trees that the flyer would go around. Shockwave doesn't have many trees so they would have to rework the layout.

Maybe we should just all wait until we see some progress. I will begin to speculate for 2003 when I see some progress.

I tried opening a new thread about why I thought we would not get an Intamin Giant Woodie (as rumored now on Screamscape) but that got closed. The link to that thread was http://www.coasterbuzz.com/forums/thread.asp?ForumID=11&TopicID=25308.

But here is what I stated in that thread:

I read on Screamscape (which we all know is just a RUMOR site with some substance stuffed in for good measure) that Six Flags Great America may get the Intamin Giant Woodie that Six Flags Great Adventure was to get.

Here is why I think that they wont get a giant Intamin woodie (at least not over 125 feet tall).

Six Flags Great America has to get a zoning variance for anything over 125 feet tall. They have not yet approached the Gurnee Zoning Board of Appeals to get a height variance. So even if they do swap with Six Flags Great Adventure they wont be building anything over 125 feet tall this year. Even if they take out Shockwave they still need to get a variance for any new structures over 125 feet tall on the property. See this link for more information: http://www.gurnee.il.us/zoning_board/zba_minutes/09-27-00.html look for item 3. This is from a prior zoning variance that they had gotten for Deja Vu and Vertical Velocity.

With that in mind could it be that Six Flags over Texas that does not get the B+M Flyer? That is if they are shuffling rides around.

Also of valuable information is that the next 2 zoning board meetings are on September 25 and October 23 at 7:30pm. The location of the meeting is at Gurnee Village Hall, 325 North O'Plaine Road, Gurnee, Illinois. http://www.gurnee.il.us/zoning_board/zba_schedule.html

Also the current agenda has nothing on any zoning variance request from Six Flags Great America. http://www.gurnee.il.us/zoning_board/zba_agendas.html

beast. We all know that could change at the drop of a hat. They can easily ask for a variance during the off-season. With the good relationship between Gurnee and SFGAm, the park is pretty much guaranteed to get the approval of any ride they construct over 125ft. History shows that.

LMAO why do I have a feeling Godsey is behind that Intamin woodie rumor for SFGAm?

Those damn things just keep movin' around, eh Chris? lol............

It tastes like burning.

with Great America's zoning going to 125' and Great Adventure just asking for a variance of 122', wouldn't you think that maybe they are getting the same coaster? everyone is saying that America is getting a flyer and the person who went to the Adventure meeting said that it looked like a flyer. maybe they're both getting the same flyer. lets just hope that its not modeled after S:UF and that the cloning ends there.

Doesn't Six Flags Great America already have a pretty darn big wooden coaster? Would seem odd to get another one.

Besides, where would they put it?!

I just can't see another woodie at GAm 8 years after Viper. But it would give the park a very solid wooden collection.

I'd still rather have a flyer, hands down. Adds more variety. Also, why would they switch?

Here's my hope: Shockwave gets tossed to SFAW (or some other deserving park), and *nothing* replaces it next season. This time is used to actually make something of the space: landscaping, theming, etc.

Fast forward to 2004 when a beautiful 4-D with all the kinks worked out appears in its place to anchor a new themed area. What could be better than rolling up to the park and getting a view of the latest and greatest new thrill technology? Kind of like X at SFMM....

You have NO idea how much I want that exact same scenario to happen! A X clone (yes, here's a case where I wouldn't give a damn about a clone whatsoever!) in Shockwave's spot would be the perfect scenario, IMO. That is, if they worked out all the kinks on the current version.

I just don't think a B&M flyer will look all that impressive right there, not to mention the ride experience would be much better flying over water and over trees as opposed to yellow parking lot lines (if that is the case).

But alas, this is all just dreaming, as I don't see how they're not getting a B&M flyer next year. Man, would X be cool as hell there or what though?

Legendary,

I assure you, that latest rumor about a woodie at GrAm was not mine. I still think something big will replace Shockwave if it is indeed being removed. I think something like an X clone or maybe a big 8 inversion floorless would fit in that location much better than a 120 foot tall flyer. Those 2 Intamin woodies SF bought were rumored to be close to 200 feet though. ;)

I think after the whizzer thing, the flyer was moved to GADV and something else will take the place of shockwave. Since Shockwave is such a visual landmark, I expect to see something as tall or taller.

The worlds tallest floorless with 8 inversions... has a nice ring to it eh?

chris, I know not all parks are your "favorite", but is there any park out there that "deserves" to be saddled with that monstrosity.....j/k...;)

Now see here. Did it ever cross your mind that six flags was adding a water park and a coaster? All they would have to do is deconstruct shockwave and you have a basically flat lot to build on and the flyer would go in where cajun cliff hanger east river crawler and power dive are?

-----------------
This is a message from don corleone it says lucabratzi sleeps with the fishes.

Not a waterpark!!!!!!
I have a brilliant (being facetious, of course) idea -

what if Great America's new addition for next year is a continually operating Deja Vu and some new flats?

Send Shockwave to Jazzland!

Here comes another one of Chitowns "pipedreams" for all who care to read.

If Shockwave is removed, I would love for them to take that space and turn it into the employee parking lot. We will now proceed to head over to the old employee lot, rip out the blacktop, and create a new themed area where you will have plenty of room for a new coaster, and a whole fleet of new flats.

My "pipedream" has now ended and we return you to your regularly scheduled CB talk. :)

Ric Flair was hitting on the female host, he told her - "Space Mountain may be the oldest ride in the park, but it has the longest line." WOOOOO!

nice thought chitown, but then the employees would have to wait in lines of cars with the rest of people. god forbid!

The employee parking lot comes off from the back street if i'm not mistaken (i think milwaukee avenue *shrug*). If they made that area the new employee parking lot, they would have to make the entrance from it from grand avenue. That's busy enough with the crazy people getting off 94. It would be a very good idea in my opinion, but re-paving the parking lot in front, theming the area in back.. that might be too much for great america to handle. That employee parking lot back there IS big though. and has plenty of trees in the back. I remember they had the rolling thunder track back there about a year after it was taken down; was able to see it from Logger's Run.

where there's a will, there's a way. It's always possible they will be expanding back there.

How about the world's tallest floorless with 11 inversions? (most inversions on any coaster also!)

Have you ever seen the Demon?
Have you ever heard him scream.............

I like swimmerkev's idea better...too bad it probably isn't going to SFGAm next year though.

Joe, whose second choice for a shockwave replacement would be a tall/long/3-train/extremely loopy B&M floorless. Hey, I'm easy to please, no?

It tastes like burning.

Lets all just hope that If we get somthing to replace shockwave it wont have a parking lot underneath it...
