SFNO removing rides

But here is something no one has yet commented on, "Why remove these two rides?" Were they unpopular? problematic? in the way of future expansion? what? *That* is the more relavent point for discussion.

I have to disagree with Chitown et al. as this is not *just* a "*****ing and moaning" post. This is actually a little bit of news. Not earth-shattering, but news nonetheless. Was the original poster angry, even bitter? Absolutely! But that doesnt change the fact that two rides are leaving. If SFGAm ripped out River Rocker and Chubasco it wouldnt be *huge*, but there would be at least a little mention.

I personally think the "Get over it" comment was totally unneeded.

A Chance Chaos requires committment.

Even from their debut, there were bulletins about the rather precise and consistent tension necessary for the bolts...and we all know what happened at MiA.

Sure, I'd miss my Chaos if VF got rid of it. Just like I miss the Bayern Kurve and Scharzkopf mouse they axed. But open a thread to rant? Nah.

Peabody: My response wasn't directed at you.

Jeremy: The reason I said "Get over it" is because other topics have popped up either complaining about used coasters, no waterpark that was supposedly promised and now this topic. All of these have been posted by the same people or responded to by the same people.

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

Wait, wait, wait...are we 100% sure these rides are being removed? The only proof given is that they're not on the park's website but is that definitely an accurate indicator?

I don't know...Maybe someone should call the little old lady that works at the Guest Services window. She would definitely know. ;-)

No further explanation needed. I'm hopelessly lost.
Any photos of a dismantling or a vacant concrete pad?

A Chaos simply missing the fiberglass cars proves nothing. They yank 'em off VF's model for storage every winter.

Redman:you get money made there because you get money spent(by corporate) there.

Just try living near one of the lower tier parks & forget all about SFGRAM,SFGRADV or SFMM & see what the locals have to look forward to compared to the stuff you get as it stands now nearly every other year.

CrazyB:stop & consider for a minute that perhaps SFNO had good reason to remove these two rides as part of a future expansion plan, what they add might be far better than what they took out & also consider the fact that SF doesn't list all of a parks rides on their site.

Who knows? the two rides said to be removed may still very well be there, now if someone gets hold of a park map & it clearly shows the rides removed then there's not much to be done....SF did somewhat the same thing with us when they all of a sudden decided to remove the enterprise & still havn't added anything in it's place yet.

Your'e not missing much with the removal of the inverter(those things hurt & are rather dull) but chaos on the other hand would really be a shame to loose....I hope ours sticks around for a few more seasons.

Late model Chance rides tend to be maintenance intensive. When it takes a quarter of your maintenace staff to keep two rides up and running, well, the writing is on the wall. *** Edited 2/14/2005 7:59:38 PM UTC by Dutchman***
Also the problem with your issues with SFNO vs. SFGAm is that SFGAm has a HUGE population to draw from.

Chicago and the surrounding suburbs - 9,650,137
Milwaukee and their suburbs - 1,689,572
Total - 11,339,709

New Orleans metropolitan area - 1.3 million

SFGAm's market area is 8.7 times larger than New Orleans.

Seeing that, obviously, GAm will see that much larger attendance, which means they make more money and deserve more money. This is a business, not corporate welfare.

Moosh, the rides have in fact been removed and are no longer on the official website...As for clearing the area for future expansion these rides resided in the middle of the park and side of park facing lake...And there is always the chance for new or used rides to replace but at this time news from the park is No..Also No official Media announcement has been made but the word from the Park is No New additions, just enhancing the Concert Series and Shows at the park..Word has it that the rides cost to repair had a part in the decision, Rides have been sold and waiting on pickup...Do not know who purchased them ..My point is this removal was bad timing by the park after all the disparaging news the Park has let out so for this past season, Hopefully SFGam has a great season and some of the millions can trickle down to us...Thinking Positive while Tar is being Poured on our heads waitng for someone with feathers to finish us off...

Hmmm.

Viper is leaving SFGAdv. SFNO is making room at the park.

??? ;)

Since both rides were from the same manufacturer, perhaps their lease agreement was up and the maintenance issues made the park decide to return them rather than renew or buy-out the lease?

Not all rides are owned by the park due to cash flow reasons - and a leased ride must be disposed of at the end of the lease, just like a car.

Lord Gonchar-The two rides were not really next to each other, and the space left by them if they are being removed is not large enough for a coaster.

I have not ridden the inverter, because every time I have gone in the last two years it has been closed. Also, the one time I rode their Chaos it stopped mid-cycle and had to be manualled down, although I would not at all be surprised if this was due to an imbalance. The operator did not start the ride with a balanced load.

Anyway, like Peabody, I have been there a couple times, and although I do enjoy some of their rides, every time the experience has been worse. It would take a lot to get me back there, and I haven't had to pay admission on any of my visits.

Clearly, Volcano was removed for Shock, and Chaos removed for Wave. What's the deal with you people?

OMG that joke is so 2002 ;)
Come on down to SFA Mustang.....our chaos gets stuck in mid cycle constantly due to weight imbalances, man where's I-Fan when you need him?
Did you every think this is a good thing? Maybe they removed them because they did not want to waste maintenance resources on those rides when maintenance is needed else ware.
BFSFA: I know, I've operated a Chaos on and off for three seasons now. However, with a few remote cases, Chaos rides run fine as long as you make sure the load is balanced. If the ride is imbalanced, then it will fault out, usually when the ride reaches the vertical position and the rotational speed decreases. As long as you have a good operator the ride should run fine. Seeing the ride fault out so much at SFNO unverved me, because to me it reflected that the employees didn't care about running the ride correctly, or that the training program at the park was insufficient.

BTW, I'd love to get UP to SFA, from New Orleans, almost everything is UP. :)

The Flying Turns makes all the right people wet - Gonch

Lets clarify the issue: SFNO posted a “New Attraction Coming for 2005!” sign in the DC Comics section of the park late in 2004. SFNO removed this sign JUST before the park wrapped the 2004 season. SFNO KILLED (Politically killed) plans for a waterpark in a suburb of New Orleans, stating that it was unfair of that park to build a waterpark since they had one on the drawing board. SFNO Still has no plans to actually BUILD the park, just the plans of what will be in the park. SFNO Now has removed 2 rides (I didn’t care for them very much anyway) As a side note, the park PR Director confirmed with me that the rides are being removed. For unreliable/maintenance reasons. The space they occupy will be converted to “Greenspace, with benches and shade, with an offering of snack machines and drink machines” That’s the low down.. Read this post with an open mind, and you’ll see why the frustration….. Hardcard
