SFKK posts hint for 2005...

Personally I think its fantastic that the pictures were taken and posted. So many times enthusiasses will come to a board and fuss about completely non-sensical and nit picky things that are just a waste of time, its kinda nice to see someone make some constructive criticism, wish that the park would improve, and then post something as a document to show exactly what's going on.

Its not like this is just an issue with enthusiasts. I'm sure there were plenty of other guests that saw what was going on and were turned off by it as well. Back when I was living near Lexington, KY I could get to SFKK in about an hour and a half and PKI in about 2, you can imagine where I spent much more money. I saw really awful stuff at SFKK year after year. Most notably an attendant on Thunder Run taking rides in empty seats and then getting out to check lap bars for the next set of riders and then getting right back in the train for another ride.

If only I had a camera on that day!

"Most notably an attendant on Thunder Run taking rides in empty seats and then getting out to check lap bars for the next set of riders and then getting right back in the train for another ride."

I've seen this at Cedar Point (notably the "lake view" of Power Tower), PKI, and countless other parks.

I saw a guy doing that on Timberwolf at WoF, but that was probably about 10 years ago.

...he was also jumping onto the back of the train and riding it to the end of the station and jumping off.

I only saw him do this once, though. He took to taking rides once I got into the station. Its all besides the point, though. Just because you see it at other parks doesn't mean its right. Or safe. Or bothersome to me, and just about anybody else in line that was noticing. *** Edited 11/18/2004 6:57:37 PM UTC by matt.***

And I have a different definition of "really awful"?? ;)

I think that's rather harmless.

Edit for your edit:...

+Danny, makes bet you didn't go to GR about it

Edit for your second edit: Keep adding more to your story. I can't wait until you get to that part about the roaming characters operating the ride while this ride op who was riding ran to chat with some friends and get a hot dog. *** Edited 11/18/2004 7:00:24 PM UTC by +Danny***

I was probably 16 or 17 at the time, and I knew that they wouldn't do anything about it. I *did* know the amount of safety violations involved with what the guy was doing, though. And the fact that the other attendant and the operator were rooting him on made it even worse.

The details of all of this still don't really matter that much...the point was that I've seen many employees doing stuff they clearly shouldn't have been doing at SFKK that I've never seen anywhere else, and from the looks and sounds of it, the park really hasn't changed too much since I last visited. *** Edited 11/18/2004 7:12:03 PM UTC by matt.***

Has or hasn't changed?

If it's a good park, they'll listen to guest complaints no matter what your age is. 16 or 17 should be a mature enough age to believe and take seriously. All teens should learn to take the stand and not back down. I've seen five year olds change the way the world looks at things on Oprah, so I know you can convince GR at a SF park in Louisville that a ride op was being unsafe. ;)

"If it's a good park"

I think the point is that it *isn't.* I've had numerous problems with GR at SFKK in the past, though, and I would be happy to detail a few but I fear that you'd try to turn this into an even longer pissing contest then its already become. Thanks, though.

;)

You know what you experienced and you did nothing about it. They nor I can help you with that. :)

Edit: I'd love to hear a story from 2004. I really don't care about something that happened in '99 since we're focusing on the park improving... Unless you want to give me a story on how they were horrible in 99 and still horrible now or they handled something really bad in 99 and they're better now, but still need improvement. That would be productive.

Its a good thing I wasn't asking for your help.

Fortunately, I have moved from Kentucky to Connecticut so I don't have any stories about SFKK from 2004 of my own. But then again I could probably go over to the Trip Reports forums and dig you up a few by other people. I'm not really sure if that would be helpful though, as I'm not really sure what your point has been through all of this.

My little anectdote was just a story about reckless behavior by employees at SFKK years ago, somewhat related to Mr. Drabek's experience at the park. Its not like him and I are the only ones that have seen things, so I'm not really sure how to argue this any further. *** Edited 11/18/2004 7:49:25 PM UTC by matt.*** *** Edited 11/18/2004 7:55:37 PM UTC by matt.***

Check your PMs and don't worry, I've already looked through the mostly positive trip reports from 2004. :)

You can find a few points I made here: If something bad or unsafe happens and you don't tell GR, absolutely nothing can be done about that. Some of us are saying that the park has generally improved in 2004 over past visits and telling about experiences from previous years doesn't help that. We're focusing on the current way the park is being run. GR are a "good park" like myself and many others have found KK to be this year, would probably listen to their guests. I didn't find any reason to visit GR this season, because my experience was pretty satisfactory.

An employee riding and checking lap bars at the same time isn't very professional, but I wouldn't call that unsafe. I prefer laid back ops that almost seem like "part of the crowd" like at Kennywood and Knoebels anyways. It's refreshing and fun for me. I do understand where you're coming from and it's your opinion. When I originally responded, you hadn't posted the entire situation, which I completely agree wasn't good at all. I frankly could care less about something that happened "years ago" though.

Which brings us to what your point was...?

I'm not here to call anyone out, but I am here to have a questioned answered. Paul, the picture you keep referring to of a ride operator sleeping at the wheel, is of the ride operator outside the ride. Now, the simple fact of him looking like he was sleeping is still horrible, but was this the person working or was someone else working the ride?

Thanks for the help!

After seeing him asleep I went and got a ride on the Giant Wheel (the ride he was at) and I asked the ride op about him if he was on break or something and she said that he was not on break but was supposed to be one of the 2 ride ops working on the unload side. So yes he was on the clock and unconsious.

Have Fun

I hate it when someone is doing all the work and another person is doing nothing and they still get the same pay or even get paid at all. That's so unfair for the ones actually doing something and if I were them, I would call them out on it.

^Like calling them out would really accomplish anything. The mere fact that they got hired in the first place isn't fair. They don't care and there's nothing anybody could say except for, "You're fired!," that would give them a reality check. It's a shame, really. You'd think management would have found out by now what the public thinks of many of their employees.

Moosh is refering to a line from the movie "American Pie" about a girl who, well to put it delicately used her band instrument in an inappropriate manner.

I thought it had something to do with that, but how does that relate to my post?

I hope you brought along a new winter coat. I personally don't see a plus side in moving to Conneticut, but that is just me.

Sirloindude, you are pretty.
