SF: beginning of the end?

I would say that only whoever is in charge of Six Flags at the time when the decisions are made is going to know what and why they will do something.

With the people in charge right now I would look at a ROI/Land Value comparison to see if any park would be in trouble of liquidation. Astroworld had a need for parking which Six Flags could not provide at current location and could not afford to get at a price that made business sense to them, so they decided to check options and decided that the most viable option would be selling the land and moving/scrapping rides and pay down some debt.

I think research into current park conditions, (ie. attendance, needed investments, possible new rides that would help attendance {not an enthussiasts view as to what to add but an unbiased view}, advertising, lease cost of land, management contract values, etc.) versus the land value for the park could point to a few parks on the radar for closing or dumping the management of the park.

Watch the tram car please....
Playa:

Now I see what you mean…It is ok say residents are "just asking for it"at a time when we were not yet sure what happened and media were talking category 5’s and “tens of thousands of people” who may be in trouble …but “f-bombs” should come a flying when somebody says the exact same thing 2 weeks later with less than 600 dead! Silly me for not understanding the drastic shift of context...

Thanks for clearing that up…?

P.S. Jeff---if this is sincerely your story---then please accept my appology for not seeing the obvious! *** Edited 9/19/2005 9:49:17 PM UTC by Jeffrey R Smith***

Even my Floridian hurricane survivor friends saw humor, irony, etc. in various remarks before Katrina actually made the big impact that it did--and they've BEEN through hurricanes. Have you?

(Needless to say, the gentle breeze of your long-winded blubberings here don't count)

Even a number of NO residents and Mississippians decided (unwisely) to buckle down--why? Hurricane fatigue. They've heard of it so many times each year, they tend to tune out the warnings. And they live RIGHT THERE.

You can twist and twist and twist all you want on the teensy little threads of an argument you struggle to cling to--but they still don't hold any weight.

Especially that of your average coaster enthusiast.

But flail away more if you wish. It's never stopped you before.

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

Yes I do not stop at such foolery you suggest! But unlike you, I have never stooped so low as to edit my messages AFTER the argument ensued… Nor have I come onto the board and started dropping “f-bombs” toward somebody who clearly echoes my sentiment! This is what I must deal with in my innocent attempt for coaster news! I guess we all have opinions on those behaviors we would think unworthy…

As for your assessment that my arguments hold no weight, well let me say that I just consider the source… I fully support and appreciate your right to disagree with my opinions, but I certainly don’t put too much weight in what you say…your prior actions speak for themselves.

While your political opinions may play well in cyberspace on a message board dominated by those who overwhelmingly share your worldview, I take comfort in fact that most of my viewpoints seem to win every election cycle! I let some friends at work check this out today…they too got the same chuckle from your takes that I do!

So you go back and start playing the role of compassion police and let everybody know when it is, and is not, ok to crack jokes, or in this particular case, state the obvious (as you would say)! I still get a good chuckle that it was ok on 8/30/05 to “kick em why they were down” but not this week! Seems a bit kooky, but hey---to each their own!

I’ll try to stay back here and stick to coaster stuff, unless of course one of you come on here and do another 2-week about-face!

Preach on Playa…I could use some more laughs!

P.S. I think we all see who is twisting...the timeline and facts certainly ensure you'll be in full break dance mode by the next page of this thread! Good stuff though---"my friends thought it was funny on 8/30/05 so it was...I like that strategy!

Guess who I am!

First I take a little quote of this:

Jeffrey R Smith said:
It is ok (to) say residents are "just asking for it" at a time when “tens of thousands of people” who may be in trouble

Of course, 'trouble' made 'homeless but otherwise unhurt' sound all dramatic and ooooooooooooh.

…but “f-bombs” should come a flying when somebody says the exact same thing 2 weeks later with less than 600 dead!

So according to you--using YOUR OWN WORDS, floating corpses aren't as important as homeowners who might be displaced. Why? Because there aren't as many of them!

Funny--I didn't have to go sifting through last month's posts for THAT gem!

Now apologize for breathing our air.

Since we are on the subject of funny…I’ve got some Hurricane Rita jokes to lighten the mood! We know how you and your friends appreciate good hurricane jokes before we realize too many are dead…?

Hurricane Rita is the current hurricane threatening Texas and the Gulf Coast for those of you who are incapable of reading past a few sentences…

Ok here goes…

1. What is funnier than a flooded home of a Hurricane Rita victim who is just asking for it by refusing to evacuate?

Answer: A Playa post…

2. What is even funnier than #1?

Answer: Playa going back and erasing/changing his original posts so as to not look too foolish!

P.S. I’m full of funny hurricane jokes…lucky for me I’ve got until about Friday---oh wait---make that Sunday (2 days AFTER it hits) until I start offending anybody!

Question: Where's the answer to what I raised in my last post?

Answer: None--Cuz when you're out of anything of substance to say, you say the same thing over and over again. When you're called on that, call names!

The bright side of any casualties? Jeffrey will stop worrying about them. Again.

Funny response for a man who has yet to give the date and time that it was no longer funny...

...and you expect me to answer your gibberish!

P.S. Keep digging Playa...I'm about ready to link some headlines from 8/29/05 that were BEFORE Jeff posted (I'll wait until the son goes to bed). You know...just some stuff about the deaths and all... But you keep defending the indefensible! I'll give you a heads-up...start changing your defense like you always do when disagreeing with me!

It is not even close to funny. The death toll is so high the exact amount dead is still unknown as bodies are still turnning up all over the place im sure once the water is drained there will be more considering people whos bodies might have gotten pinned under something or stuck in basements etc. Its sad and im sorry but if you think its funny your sick minded and Really, REALLY need help.
I Don't think any deaths are funny unless its something like a really, really, really dumb suicide or something. And tekno i wasnt adressing that to you, it was to everyone.

Death isn't something to laugh at even if hurricane katrina only killed one person it would still affect someones life one way or another, maybe not yours but someone would be hurt over it and i don't think they'd be laughing, do you? Even if it kills no one look at how much effort has to go into rebuilding all of the homes and whatever was lost. Most people don't think before they speak and are trying to be funny i know that and yeah i did laugh at it too at first but i kept it to myself. lol sorry if im being rude people need to have some respect and think before they speak

JRS, I think that people aren't jumping on your bandwagon because they see that you are not choosing your battles wisely, my friend.

No one is interested in your boohooing because of the fact that most of us aren't all totally infatuated with Coasterbuzz's webmaster, which I am sure he appreciates.

You Ten or so posts in this thread unsuccessfully trying to get everyone to gang up on Jeff are a real snorefest, imho. He already defended himself, and only needed a few words to do so.

you are a one man army, in a losing battle. I understood and accepted his defense. I need no more explanation. I didn't even care in the first place.

The only problem I had in his post was the "F-bomb", in which he censored himself, as I do not think we here at CB should be swearing. It's his site though, and if he wants to swear sometimes, who is anyone to complain.

...And all of the above is to be read in a soft tone with no sarcasm. I'm not being an angry poopyhead. I'm being a friendly pointer-outer; a buddie who whispers into your ear that your fly is down.

As a South Floridian I love watching people argue about hurricanes when they have never and likely never will be victims of them.

But, it is entertaining.

...in a freak-show, train-wreck, can't-possibly-look-away-from-the-horror sort of way.

We (Missy and I) got to ride out a tropical depression last year and that was MORE than enough for me. I can't imagine what riding out a hurricane must be like. It has to be an "unreal" or even "out of body" experience. I know I for one have not intentions of living anywhere where the possibility of having to "ride it out" is even possible.

Strangely, "Lady T" said she used to *like* hurricanes when she was younger cause the whole family (and we're talking a dozen aunts/uncles and their kids) would all go to grandma's house cause it was built on stilts. She thought it was fun hanging out with the whole fam.

In the past few weeks, however, the majority of the fam has relocated to North Carolina...
