Serious accident at Michigan's Adventure

Ugh... don't even go there. Time after time we've demonstrated how no amount of regulation could prevent most accidents. Give it a rest.

You know, I knew there was a reason I never had any desire to ride a Chaos, despite people telling me how great they are. I do not like rides which restrict movement to the point where you feel claustrophobic.

well i have to agree with sethman i think it is time to come up with some regulations. i dont think parks should just do what they feel is neccesary. i want to be able to know that rides are up to par. i want to know that there are some laws protecting me from being a satistic.
accident's are still gonna happen, regulations wouldn't bother me as long as it doesn't stunt the progress of roller coasters or limit them in any way. I wouldn't care if they said can't go over 40 g's or something. But things still happen. This is a horrible accident, but i don't think regulations would make a difference. Chaos is a really fun ride too.

Man oh man...I rode Chaos at CP, and I was convinced that all of these Chaos rides have evil spirits in them...This just proves it...I hope everyone is ok...This just hasn't been a good year for coasters...
It's not as serious as you think. 17 people with minor injuries.

REDWINGS 2002!!
This isn't going to help Chance Rides at all...

Sorry, thrustmachine, but I think when 17 people are injured (even minor injuries) on an amusement ride, it's pretty serious.

More government regulations wont stop a accident from happening but will further erode are freedoms and the fun we have. Why do people think government regulations make people safer? Where is the proof that government rules actually work?
Another live report, people possibly being lifted out of the ride right now, 4 level 1 injuries and more than 15 people on the way to the hospitals in the area.

Welcome back riders, how was your ride...Enjoy your day, here at Cedar Point, America's roller coast.
Can we please not make this a debate.

This is the scariest thing I've ever heard, but not the worst. Did anyone hear about a ride called the yo-yo collasp at a carnival in Mexico and 13 children under 16 died, or the accident that happened yeasterday at a fair in california.(if anyone knows where can they tell me. I hadm friends going to the orange county fair yesterday. Anyway,Those claustraphobic restrants saved lives a few hours ago and those people should be very thankful.
I just hope that ed markey uses this as a prime example for regulations. Bye the way, absolutely nothing on the news in California.
Here is a picture: http://wildcat.arizona.edu/papers/91/128/photospread/pages/two.html

It is a ride that starts by the hydraulics lifting the ride up so it is in the shape of a ferris wheel. The individual cars spin upside down and all around.

Life is a roller coaster...enjoy the ride!
ARRGH. Why does this stuff have to happen? It just isn't cool. I am really eager to hear what the problem was. I'm surprised of all rides, Chaos is the one to have an accident. I would imagine some of those older carnival type rides would be more prone to disaster, I thought wrong. Thoughts and prayers of the whole Coasterbuzz community.......

Best park: IOA! Get to the point... cedar point!
I am almost positive that all Chaos(s) will close, as this is routine with the Boomerangs when accidents happen.

I am in total shock. I rode this ride just a month and a half ago. I never really liked the ride cause it made weird sounds like something was going to break while I was riding. I give all hope and faith to those who were seriously injured, my prayers are with you.

This is a terrible accident. Rides in Michigan are already inspected by the state. What new regulations might come into effect because of this? I would predict that all CF Chaos rides will be closed until the exact cause of the accident is known. On Tuesday last week, this ride was closed for a while in the afternoon. I'm glad I didn't ride it Saturday.
I was going to ride the one at SFNE but the hell if I am now! Thank god it was closed on sunday.
Just saw the video on the local news here and it looks pretty strange. Jeff is right - I can't imagine any regulations that would have prevented such a collapse. One thing is for sure - there will be a lot of closed Chaos rides tomorrow.

This is not a debate...but more regulations aren't gonna stop accidents. How many regulations are needed for people who drive automobiles then? Way too many accidents there don't you think?

Weird sounds like something was gonna break? So you haven't been on Mean Streak lately have ya?
