Rolling Thunder at SFGADV is a rough one. Viper at SFGADV also is one of the most brutal ride experiences ever! but its fun!
i forgot about THE CHILLER. if you have ridden this ride, youll know coaster pain. but its not as rough as it was when it opened.
Ride It, I agree Chiller is very rough, but IMO Viper is more painful because you have the headbanging and the shoulder pain (if you've riden VIPER you know what I mean). But are you serious about Rolling Thunder, I know its rough, but it is a great ride, and very bearable.
DMB17,i dig ,its somewhat bearable but at certain points on the ride its rough. the right side of Rolling Thunder is a tad rough...(you know, when you pick your side, the one to the right)...on the turn around to hit the home stretch - it is one hard turn. i hurt my ribs and hips. scared the crap outta me too, i though that train was gonna fly!
Ride It, I know what you mean. I guess I have just ridden it so many times, I know what to expect. However the first ride of the season always seems to be a suprise.
I guess the roughness of a ride doesn't bother me. I love Psyclone, Texas Giant, and Rattler. These all shook with insanity, but they are some of my favorite rides!
Here's my CP nominees:
1) Mean Streak-the first two rides were ok, but the third ride was full of vibrations
2) Magnum XL200-Again two out of three rides were alright, but on my first ride my thighs banged into the lapbar several times through the tunnels
3) Corkscrew-I agree the bunnyhop hurts, but I could tell that would be a problem before I boarded
My current nominee for roughness at any park would be Wildcat at Hersheypark. I put my arms up during the ride and paid the price. Ouch! They now have one of those signs outside that explicitly warns riders before riding that is similar to the sign outside of The Chiller at Great Adventure.
The only coaster that has ever given me a problem due to roughness is the first half of Tornado at Adventureland

You build it, I'll ride it...eventually
Has everyone forgotten about that lovely little Vekoma creation that is red and black, over water and hurts like h-e-double hockey sticks.
Ninja at SFOG has to be the roughest thing i've ever rode.
When me and my sister rode it it ripped her earrings out of her ears. I had told her to take them out and she said no. I asked her later if she would take them out and she said always!
That thing just flat out hurts. They actually built a semi-permenant first aid station in back of one of the games buildings close by because of the Ninja.
If you're into pain it's your coaster.
I am one of the proponents for the replacing of both the Ninja and the Viper. One hurts and the other never runs. I think a CCI would fit nicely where Viper is or a hyper station. And just about anything would be better then Ninja!

Flying over metal is a beautiful thing!
When CoasterTal said Vekoma red and black I thought he meant the roughest coaster I've been on T2 at SFKK.
TOGO is okay, its those trains that are killers. The viper rides just like Manhattan Express. And the size is just a bit different. But your shoulders still hurt, and you bang your noggan way to much.
I think Mean Streak is definately the roughest coaster I have ever been
on. Personally, I have always found the Corkscrew to be pretty smooth
and I enjoy the airtime on the bunny hop. I am surprised nobody has
mentioned the Steel Phantom yet. I guess maybe it is because it is
defunct. Then again, I have never had a rougher ride on SP than I had on
Mean Streak last summer. That was one of the few times when I did not
feel like riding for awhile.

Well, if you dont want Viper at SFOG , we here in Chicago will gladly take it back as Tidal Wave. I miss that coaster. You should be fortunate that you have it. Alot of people out this way miss that Shuttle looper.

I thought Desperado was the roughest coaster I have experienced--definately the roughest steel! Maybe I rode it at a bad time though....
I think I can speak for us all who have visited Michigan's Adventure, when I say The Wolverine Wildcat is the roughest coaster on the planet. Though, I will agree with the above mentioned (except for magnum), this ride is bad. For those of you who haven't ridden, Picture Mean Streak or the Texas Giant, then let those rides sit for a couple years without being maintained, then open it back to the public without any maintenance.
It really is that bad.

I think we all could take lesson from the 1920's era. Rough was a good thing back then. The rougher the better. We have become too centered on SMOOTH. But if I had to pick a rough ride it would have to be Cyclops at Big Chief Karts and Koasters in Wisconsin Dells, WI. I actually came off that ride with bruises. And I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! BRUISED AND ALL!
Coaster Dude and Geicu,
Do you think Screamin' Eagle is rougher than the Boss? I hope SFStL paints or at the very least greases the Eagle for 2001:) The Eagle seemed sorta rough but because it doesn't have the strong laterals I did not find the roughness painful.
On wood coasters or steel that doesn't have OTSRs I like some roughness. Like on a mine train coaster for example you do not want it too smooth.

The first time I rode The Beast, I rode in the back seat. I received one of the worst beatings ever. My gut was in complete pain. I would not let that ruin my feelings for this great coaster as I went on to ride the Beast in the front for a great ride.

The roughest ones I've endured---
The Boss, which I rode once, and will never ride again, and Iron Wolf. And I'm not too fond of Shockwave at SFGAm come to think about it. I always enjoy riding Mean Streak.

My vote is for both OLFOF rides at PKI and PKD. The last time I rode the one at PKD it literally ruined the rest of my day. That thing is worse than rough its down right painful.A coaster that noone seems to mention here is The Racer at PKI. This year when I made my trip to PKI to ride SOB I also got a ride on The Racer and that thing is rougher by far that SOB, still a great ride but what a difference from years gone by. PKI really needs to give this coaster a lil TLC.
