Rock the Vote?

I am a Club member but every time I come to the homepage I get a banner at the top that is talking about Rock the Vote and a CBuzz club banner. I have ran Ad-Aware SE, AVG Virus Scan and Pest Patrol. They say my computer is clean.

Am I suposed to be seeing these banners? If not, does anyone have any suggestions?

Ever since the Beastbuzz banner went away, I've been getting that too. Maybe Jeff just doesn't have anything to put in there...

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

Maybe it is a good suggestion. Everyone should take the time and effort to vote.

I've been getting that, too, plus a banner for becoming a club member. I'm already a club member.

Looks like the Dems bought out whatever banner service Jeff is using if we are all getting Rock the Vote ads.

Certain victory.

But I am a paying member, I should not be getting any banners like that.

Well I guess I am getting the banner too. But I am a registered voter. And I will vote. But who will I vote for....now that is a question I cant answer now. I hate trying to pick what feels like the lesser of two evils. LOL!

Rock the Vote is generally not an advertiser they are a non-partisan public service organization.

Technically, this is not an advertisement.

There is a highly distinct possibilty that the link is not a revenue generator, simply a PSA.

Of course I could be wrong.

Okay, so it is a PSA, I still shouldn't be getting the banner since I am a paying member.

Oh and beast7369, I am a registered voter also, and that too has nothing to do with having the banner.

Non-partisan my a$$. They are a front group to get people to vote for Democratic candidates. When's the last time you've seen them bring in musicians that support Republican causes?

Lets not turn this into a conspiracy theory thread. Rock The Vote is a great organization that tries to get teens to vote. They got the Bush Girls and the Kerry Girls on the VMAs, so belive whatever you think.

I don't mind the Rock the Vote banner on the homepage. If it gets people to think about voting, then go for it.

The membership banner probably just appears because it is controlled by the same variable option (on/off switch) as the rock the vote banner.

I do not think it is worth complaining about, especially since it only appears on the Homepage. None of the other pop-up or margin ads appear. I hope the Rock the Vote banner has some influence. I applaud Jeff for putting it there.

Guess who's back? Back Again? James K's back. Tell a friend.

I don't applaud anyone for putting it there. Voting is MY responsibility if I want to or not. NOT for someone to tell me I have too. I am a paying member to see NO ads for a reason.

I agree, when I signed up for this site, it wasn't for the events (even though I have enjoyed three of them now), or any of the park discounts, it was for advertisement free surfing. It was one of the things I agreed to when I signed up for the site. I know this is Jeff's site and he can do whatever he wants, but he also will have to deal with the consequences of putting ads up after it was promised to the members that ads would not be there.

Certain victory.

Does it really disturb your day that much to have to scroll past a small banner encouraging those that aren't signed up to vote to sign up? Lighten up, it's better than the gigantic screen-filling PKI ad that was there for a while. So Jeff's putting some "ads" on the main page, scroll past them. If I'm not mistaken, the payment is to stop the paid advertisements that Jeff gets a check for putting up whatever the company feels like putting up there. These "ads" on the main page are for things Jeff feels is important and is probably not getting (that much) extra cash for.

It's old and cliche by this point, but it's his site, if you don't like it, don't let the door hit you on the ass.

And in case you noticed, your pointer does not jump to the ad, it doesn't take up your whole screen and not allow you to click anything else, it's a subtle reminder at the top of the front page. So you're not "having" to do anything.

Some people will freak out about anything ...

In case You didn't notice, it is STILL an ad. I paid to see NO ads.

As stated on the Club Membership page:

Access to the premium functions of CoasterBuzz. As a club member, you'll enjoy absolutely zero advertisements. No pop-ups, no banners, just all the content you can stand. It also includes the track record function and a totally customized home page with just the information you want, plus a bookmark list stored on the site. Even better, you can change the color scheme of CoasterBuzz to whatever you like in one single click!

To be perfectly honest...

I surf the site without signing in unless I post because I know ad revenue helps.

But that's just me.

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

No, it's not an ad if he's not recieving money for it. If Jeff's getting a substantial payment for having that Rock the Vote thing there, then yea, that might be a violation of that agreement (but it's still his site anyway), but if he's not getting revenue from it, it's not advertising. Heck, for the last couple of weeks I was advertising Zebrahead's newest CD in my signature, I didn't see you starting a thread complaining that you were being attacked by advertising from my signature?

Not a bad idea Playa - I enjoy the site enough I'll probably be doing that from home (although having to close all the popups when I'm trying to stay "incognito" at work wouldn't work too well ... )

Brett, Resident Launch Whore Anti-Enthusiast (the undiplomatic one)
Impulse-ive - As you just pointed out in your post, even though you were not receiving money from Zebrahead, you were still advertising their cd. An advirtisement doesn't need to have money associated with it to be classified as an advirtisement.

But I think the advertisements mentioned in the club membership are the ones that bring revenue to the site, the ones for casinos and increase your manhood and come get rich quick.

If we're going to get real nit-picky, Sarah's a complete hippocrite because every time she's posted in this thread, I've been subjected to relentless Nickleback and Trapt advertisements (5 each), not to mention that between her and Kicks the Sky, I've been blasted with "having" to join ACE ... 8 times!! I mean come on, I paid to not have advertisements here, and these two have to go and ruin my day with their signatures ...

Brett, Resident Launch Whore Anti-Enthusiast (the undiplomatic one)
Well, the ACE links are more of a joke than anything else. Go to Google or Yahoo and type 'gravy buffet'...you'll see.
