RCT3 demo tweaks

I renamed the scenario3.dat file as demo.dat and was able to get unlimited money and an empty park to build in. No idea how to get rid of that time limit though...

oh to find out how much RAM and the speed of your comoputer...go to the desktop with all those icons on it right click my computer and click properties, a screen will come up with all you need, well most! Wow, there are some good tips, you notice a little tinkering goes a long way ;) !
to get rid of the time limit, start the demo, then alt-tab back to windows and change the date on your PC to yesterday. Voila!! No Time limit...(Well ok a time limit of 24hrs, 45 mins...) *** Edited 9/29/2004 3:44:56 AM UTC by redman822***

Yea, that's what I did...
Well, do you start the demo LEVEL, or just the demo of RCT itself? If you start the LEVEL, and then change your clock back a day, then it kicks you back to the title screen. Does it work if you just change it back a day from the title screen?

I haven't tried this myself yet, but supposedly you have to do this later in the game level itself. If you try to do it when you first start playing a level, it will kick you out. I've only seen post of people putting the clock about a half hour back though (at the 11 minute warning). So not sure how Redman's 24 hour trick works.
P4 1.5 gig, 384 ddr Ram, GeForceFX 5500 overclocked 256MB DDR AGP 8x/4x video card. It's a 200 dollar video card so I hope its ok.

Also you will get better framerates if you take off high quality trees in the options file in the rct 3 demo directory.

P.S. The sandbox thingy didn't work at all. How do i make that work? *** Edited 9/29/2004 11:34:55 PM UTC by Kyle Fobe***

Where did you find the scenario3.dat file that you renamed? I can't seem to find it?

He means "tutorial3.dat", not "scenario3.dat". It's under the "tutorial" directory. I copied it to the main directory and renamed it "demo.dat" and got a sandbox to play in.

I have not been able to get the time tweak to work yet though :(

Steve

My bad. It's tutorial3.dat

Can someone help me, please? I did what both Jeff and Lord G. said about getting into sandbox mode and that works great as I get the piece of land. But I am not allowed to place any rides anywhere. Has anyone else encountered this, and how can I fix it? Thanks a million!

Here's a time-limit remover hack. I haven't tried it yet.

Jeff - Editor - CoasterBuzz.com - My Blog

Here's what I'm running:
Athlon 64 3000+ (2.0Ghz)
512MB RAM
Twin 80GB ATA Hard Drives (RAID 0)
GeForce 5700FX Ultra

Currently, I'm hitting anywhere from 30FPS to 75FPS with everything turned on and a ton of activity on-screen. If I leave everything on default, it's a steady 75FPS. Mind you, this is at 1024x768. I know it could go higher if I optomize it but I'm ok with at least 60.

I'm suprised by the lack of top-end systems in this thread. Obviously for the coaster enthusiast pc's aren't as high a priority as buying park tickets!

Athlon 64 3400+, 1024 meg of RAM, Geforce 6800 Ultra 256meg gfx.

I get 90fps during the day dropping to 65/70 at night. Running 1024x768 with all the options on full.

Dropping to 800x600 i get 100fps.

I still can't get the hang of building coasters though! might be a while before I upload anything. :(

Edited to correct typos as pointed out by the lovely Jeff, I typed the post quickly on my lunchbreak and blatantly wasn't paying attention. *** Edited 9/30/2004 4:42:28 PM UTC by Ross McColl***

here are my stats tell me if it might work:

2.66 proccesser, 256 MB Memory, 120 GB Hard Drive, 64MB GeForce video card.

Uh... the X800 is an ATI part, not Nvidia. It's also a 64-bit Athlon, not 62.

The biggest change in hardware is that the new cards (ATI's Xxxx and Nvidia's 6xxx) offload a lot of the work to the card. The prior generations rely more on the CPU. You can get good performance out of a 5700, for example, but only if you have a faster CPU.

Ross, you have to remember that the coaster enthusiast subculture is a different cross-section of the general population than the gaming subculture. Most of us don't have the driving need to stay on the bleeding edge of computerdom (until now).

Of course, I'm generally on the higher end of the spectrum, but I also game, and write code for a living:

Office PC: Athlon XP-M 2200+ overclocked to 2.2 GHz (making it roughly equivalent to an Athlon XP 3000+); 1024 MB PC3200 RAM; ATI 9700 Pro 128MB; 2 x 100 gig SATA hard drives; Iiyama 22" monitor

Home Theater PC: Pentium 4 1.6A overclocked to 2.3 GHz; 512MB PC2700 RAM; ATI 9600XP 128MB; 30 gig + 160 gig ATA hard drives; Sony 50" LCD rear-projection HDTV :)

On a side-note, RCT3 doesn't seem to accept any resolutions other than 800x600, 1024x768, and 1280x1024. I tried installing RCT3 on my HTPC and setting it to 960x734 (the custom 4:3 resolution I use on my TV) by editing the .txt file, and got an assertion failure upon launch. Oh well, worth a shot, for now I'll be running RCT3 on the 22" monitor instead of the 50" HDTV :-)

"You seem healthy. So much for voodoo."

I got it running in 1600x1200 at 18fps...WOOHOO!!

The peeps look like ants.

Gregleg, I just assumed that people talking in a pc game section on a web based forum knew a lot about pc's and had up-to-date systems.

I accept this is an incorrect assumption! I've been hanging out with pc geeks for too long that I expect everyone on the net to have top spec stuff!

sowwy :(

That would be true in any case, but if I have an extra grand lying around, I'm going to take a trip not buy a computer. The same is probably true for most poorer folk.
I tried the program in the link Jeff posted that's supposed to have no time limit. It looked like it was working until the game crashed probably 20-30 minutes into the game.

Below is a thread where someone posted a way to manipulate your system clock with a .bat file. Hopefully this will solve all of our problems with the game timer. The code is 7 posts down from the top.

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.

The program worked fine for me.

An alternate trick is to wait until you get the "11 minutes left" message and ALT/TAB out of the game, set the clock back 30 minutes or so and go back into the game. Just make a note of when you begin your game and never set the clock before that.
