I've found that a really good mask is a good way to go. I love the idea of being a "spectacle" in an elaborate costume, but from what I've seen, many costumes make riding and general mobility kind of tough. Plus you have to spend a lot of time getting yourself ready before the event. I much prefer to slip on a mask in five minutes and spend time at the event, not getting ready for the event ;)Still, I have the utmost respect for those that go all-out... they definitely help to make the event what it is!
That is pretty much my idea too. I am going as a pirate. Simple and cheap, and you don't have to leave a million and one props at the station.
Though I do love some of the great get-ups some folks come up with.

Slightly OT, but did you know that Sept 19th is National Talk Like a Pirate Day? No joke...see here.
Reminds me of Michael Nesmith's Elephant Parts. Does anyone recall this? You gotta remember the Pirate Alphabet: I = Aye! HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA!
