PKI 2009

Personally, I'd like to see some Magnum style bunny hops.

You mean the painful, triangular kind? No thanks...I'll take parabolic over triangular any day!
I only got painful bunny hops one time on Magnum and that was riding in the back seat. Otherwise, ejector air was awesome!

Any guesses as to how the ravine is going to be incorporated into the ride?
The model I did does take that into account, you can see where the line dips below the drawing, that's the ravine. I've heard rumors that this is actually 5200', and the mockup i made came out to be 5333', which is close. With this current layout drawing, there is 0 chance it is only 4200'.

I didn't see a third helix. I figure with the track length minus the 3 helixes that's what we're left with airtime hills. I expect only the one and then the minor ones on the return back.

In the birds eye view which generated the "three loops" idea, the third helix is just the hammerhead whose exit crosses over its entrance.

Just a guess (my guesses sometimes pan out surprisingly well): 4200' is probably the track length *if there were no hills and solely flat track*. To clarify, I'm thinking that the running-length of the course might be 4200'....but once you start to calculus to figure out trackage, you have to add in the extra distance it takes to go up and down hills. (Pythagoras was the MAN!)... ;)

I'm guessing the track will dip down into it.

^Nice.

^^P.S. Just realized I was beaten to the punch in the news thread....but I still think that's the correct explanation for the missing trackage footage... :)

:) Very nice. I guess what I was wondering is if we could see 1) a second hill that has a bigger drop than the first or 2) some type of tunnelage going on.

does anyone have a guesstimate over the depth of the ravine?
My guess was 40ft.. look at it compared to the dump trucks.. it is DEEP!
Forty feet is not a very deep ravine.

It is when compared to one that's only 2-feet deep.

By painful did you mean awesome?

:)

1-3 is so sweet!

Nope. I meant painful. My criticism doesn't mean I hate the ride (I am, in fact, a huge fan of Maggie) but lets be honest: its not comfortable to have one's thighs slammed into the lap bar on those triangular bunny hops.
Looking at the site map...although a little fuzzy...I think I counted 13 contour lines, which look to represent 5 foot increments...which would equal about 65 feet of difference to the bottom of the ravine.
*Disclaimer 1* I am not trying to turn this into a hyper coaster comparison thread

I 'll chime in and agree with Moosh about the discomfort level on Maggie.

However we do differ a bit. I have never been a fan of Magnum. I like it, but after the 2nd hill I always wished I could parachute off and skip the last 3/4 of the ride. It loses all rideability as soon as it heads into the stretch before the pretzel turn.

*Disclaimer 2* That doesn't mean I don't appreciate the fact that it was *essentially* the coaster that provoked the future hyper variations.

Of course it's all personal preference, but I have always preferred the more graceful hills of a B&M hyper/mega to the sharper, jarring hops of an Arrow or Morgan.

I recently rode Mamba at Worlds of Fun and found it quite a bit more enjoyable than Magnum. However the hops at the end seemed way too redundant, as they did when I rode Steel Force.

I've ridden the Giovanola Goliath/Titan hypers too. I found them more enjoyable than the Arrow/Morgans. but many would disagree with me. I actually felt they were kind of a cross between the Arrows/B&Ms.

My favorite hyper remains Superman in New England, and I am very fond of the other Superman hypers in existance too. However MForce has always left me wanting something more. Never been able to put my finger on that one. So I think Intamin definitely has a leg up on the other manufacturers.

That having been said, I've never been dissapointed by the B&M hypers I've ridden (Nitro, Apollo's, Raging Bull, Goliath, etc) so waaaay back when I first heard the rumblings about KI being spec'd for a B&M hyper I was beside myself. I am really looking forward to it.
