PKI

Silver, I disagree with the festhaus needed to be removed. I abslutely love that place. I ALWAYS eat there when I go. GOtta love air conditioning... However, they should reopen the seperate pizza place on the opposite side of the rest of the food... Another improvement I would like is the reopening of the International Restaurant. BTW, I second the thought of reopening Winter Fest, I loved 'em...
Winterfest was a good thing. I think if they reopened it they would bring in a lot more money and some people would come just to see the park at winter and try and get glimpses of the next year`s attraction. I don`t think the festhaus should be torn down as it is the only in dorr air conditioned place to eat at the park.
X Factor -

I remember EXACTLY what you are talking about. In fact, I remember when the park first opened back in the early 70's, the train ride used to have costumed characters dressed as train robbers from the old west, and they would actually stop the train to "rob" it - pointing guns at the passengers and everything. I guess they did away with that because it was sort of scary - ? Whatever. They need to re-route it back into the area where The Beast traverses the land, and maybe make it into some sort of safari theme - travelling through the woods and ravines with the roar of The Beast in the background, etc....

"PKi does need good flat rides, but what is clear is that PKI needs a new ride in River Town as its last addition was in 1985 with White Water Canyon. Also, this year River Town looses another ride. The Former Kings mills Log Flume that was located in River Town is now going to be in Nickelodeon Central and themed to the wild Thornberries. (That should make the best flume ride at the park even better!) However since the Action Zone is so close to Nick Central more people might be in it but it still needs some flat rides and a major coaster!

You made me have an interesting thought.....why in the world is Congo Falls over near Timberwolf? Why shouldn't it be moved over to RiverTown? And why did they change the name to Congo Falls instead of keeping it as Amazon Falls?
Okay, I stand corrected about Festhaus. Let it stand.

Long live Festhaus!!

Er...sorry.

I didn't even think about the fact that it is air-conditioned. My main point is that they need to do something with it. I think we all pretty much agree about that.
They changed the name of Amazon Falls to Congo Falls to tie in with the movie Congo...
Realistically I don`t see them moving the train to travel back by The Beast it would be an awesome ride though, if they at least put some theming back into it like it had. All those fake buildings look like they`re about ready to fall apart. They probably will never re-route the train as the shed and maintenance area for the train is located on the other side of White Water Canyon (opposite side of The Beast) the train should be themed. Cedar Point`s train is themed as well as providing transportation to another area of the park, and not the water park!
I visited PKI for the first time last year. It's a great park. It was clean and the food was decent. I agree with the opinion of most that they need more flat rides. Since they have Beast and Sonny which are originals and well known I also agree that a signature steel coaster is needed.
More flat rides, one or two great steelies..soon, Winterfest back(loved that), Zoo Animal monorail back(loved that too,but not a chance) and a new themed area. Theme the train ride again too. People can walk to WaterWorks. And I think PKI is opening a parking lot entrance to WaterWorks this year. Or was that last year? I don't know. I wouldn't come in that way.

Definitely keep Festhaus. I always eat there.

And coastersrz, I was talking about a freefall like Demon Drop at CP or Freefall like at SFMM. Not a drop or launched drop ride like Drop Zone or CP's Power Tower.
You know, the Lion Country Safari was okay if you wanted to cool off, but half the time I never really saw that many animals. However, if you are nostalgic for the actual monorail trains themselves, head over to Jungle Jim's in Fairfield. He owns them now, and is going to be utilizing them in the expansion of his retail establishment. Should be interesting.

Did I miss something? Was I high when I went to the park? If I'm not mistaken, the Nickeloedon area was to the right of 'International Street' while Action Zone was on the left. The two areas are nowhere near each other.
jeremy
No, Jeremy - you weren't high. I, too, was wondering what Coastersrz meant when he said that. Action Zone is nowhere near Nickelodeon Central.
I think if PKI were to do a major renovation of any area of the park, it should be Rivertown. I'd go so far as making a couple of adjustments to improve Rivertown as well as expand it.

Dear PKI,

A) Add the section of land next to the pond by LaRosas to the Rivertown motif. Put in a little theming or so. As it stands, it's just a big area of water doing nothing for the park other than harboring a myriad of geese. Put it to work for you. Add some flat rides here. It's relatively untraveled and out of the way, now that one half of the old fashioned car ride is down. And speaking of that ride, relocate it to Nick Central (in a smaller course) and use all that reclaimed land to build flat rides. Build an outdoor patio area for eating by the lake and locate the food booth in point B here (see B for reason).

B) Move the food stand in front of White Water Canyon queue out of the way to the lake. Make a complete bridge over train tracks without stairs for wheelchair access (like the exit ramp currently is only bigger). Reroute WWC queue area to enter along the railroad tracks via bridge over the lake. Take the existing WWC queue area and build one flat ride and a coaster, preferrably out-n-back steel hyper, in this area. Anything to get people out of Action Zone.

C) Retheme, enclose, or reinvent Keatons Keelboat Canal in some way to get more people to ride it. For such a prominent space on the midway, it gets little attention, except on hot days.

and D) For the love of God, widen the pathways at the Larosa's pizza junction. Between the pizza place and Beast overflow line, gimme some space to pass people, geez....

That's it for me. If they do anything in the next two years, I hope this is it. Rivertown needs work. They don't need a 'new' section of park behind Racer, not yet at least. That'd only add to the amount of people crowding Coney Mall, which of itself is becoming 'Mini-Action Zone'.
Sorry, you were right. I know that the Action Zone is no where near Nick Central! I was just thinking faster than I could type. What I meant was that since River town is so close to Nick Central, there will porbably be more people in River Town this year. BTW, I`m pretty sure that the log flume, the former Kings mills Log Flume, which used to be in River Town is now part of Nick Central. Also, are the bathrooms right near it going to stay? Clearly PKi needs to do something by the old antique cars. Whenever I walk through that path at night on my way to The Beast the path is deserted and there are almost no lights on it. The one restaurant on it is almost always closed. I remember when they used to have a bridge going across that lake and it took you into the heart of River Town. Don`t know why they took that out. Before PKi adds a new theme area they need to put in some flat rides and a major new attraction (e.g. a major steel coaster) in River Town!
I'm still not sure about the "steel coaster in Rivertown" idea. Putting a steel coaster there would be out of character with the whole theme of the area - being that it is mainly themed as an area dealing with water, wood, and the old west. The whole area is geared more toward being a "nature" oriented area of the park. Before they even built The Beast, the lake(next to the station) was used for a canoe livery, and there was a long nature trail back in where The Beast now roams. If anything should be built in Rivertown, it should be a water coaster. And Kenton's Cove should be redone, I agree. How, I'm not sure. Maybe lengthened, or put in a drop mid-way.
As for the lake near LaRosa's - they definitely should rebuild the bridge. It was just a nice little touch. I agree the antique cars should be moved to Nick Central, and rethemed.
I agree with the idea of the theme of River Town. However, they need to put in something there. Maybe make it a flat ride that sprays water on the riders or a water coaster like Journey to Atlantis. BTW For about the last month of the season Kenton`s COve Keelboat Canal was closed and the big white dummies that the Son of Beast trains first had when put on the tack were sitting in the boats in the station. I don`t think the Antique cars should be moved to Nick Central and themed to another cartoon. Already everything at the park is themed to either tv shows or movies. I like the antique cars as they are!
--"PKI needs a new ride for Rivertown"--

The Flying Dutchman for 2002 was slated for Rivertown. The line was going to share the exit of WWC, and the ride itself was to actually fly over the path of WWC.

The FD is out for 2002 due to many factors, but different ideas are being looked at for that area of the park. PKI realizes that it appears shorthanded in the steel department. Look for serious advances in 2002.
I hope that Paramount`s Kings Island knows that they lack steel coasters. I already know, and I think they all ready know, that they have one of the best collections of wood coasters. However, they lack a major new steel coaster. The ones they have are fine. Except Flight of fear as it is extremely rough and Face Off as it can have very long lines. PKI could make their steel collection even better by adding a major steel coaster. A new design element, record or whole new ride concept would be great. I think that a steel coaster would go great in River Town if it is themed to fit in with River Town. (With Old Western style theming.) Clearly, a new steel roller coaster of any type that is themed to another Paramount movie, unless it has a western/water theme should not be built in River Town. I am sure that PKI will come up with some fun new coaster for 2002, if they add a coaster. They always do.
Well as far as theming a coaster for Rivertown, it wouldn't be difficult. I personally like some kind of haunted forest idea (any 'old west' theme I think would be too similar to Wildfire, not that that is bad, mind you, just overused). I'd prefer something in a steel hyper, with a creepy theme, but that's just me. And it would work during Fearfest operations.

Just dreaming I guess, but isn't that the point of these posts?

But most of all, move the old fashioned cars (anywhere, I don't care) and put in some flat rides there!!!
I wish they would put a "hidden" coaster in Rivertown. Kind of when you come upon it, it would be a big surprise, because you couldn't see it from the walkways. That would be cool to me. Add Chris's haunted forest idea and make a black or maybe green and black track. Maybe make it a hyper that goes underground. In a way, like Steel Phantom. No loops though. Very fast, very twisty, lots of airtime.
