Photos from closing weekend show Impulse likely for Cedar Point beach

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

If you weren't convinced last time around, check out the photos from the photos from Cedar Point on closing weekend. The footers being poured suggest a series of supports and a tower support consistant with an Intamin Impulse design.

If B&M can build Batman:The Ride and Great White in the same state why can't you build two impulses in the same state as long as they're different.  Who knows what Intiman has up their sleeve.  They might add something to the ride that you never had thought of!
In my earlier post I wasn't claiming that CP is a sandbar, just that the entire peninsula has rather unstable soil.  This doesn't matter though, because the footers rest on the bedrock, which is most certainly stable.

This all reminds me of the Q&A session at Coastermania this year.  I remember Mr. Kernacs talking about the MF footers and how they were designed to spread the force in a way that they didn't have to be poured down to the bedrock  (I think this is what he was talking about, correct me if I'm wrong).

I think I got it:

HAMMERHEAD STALL by:Vekoma but with a slight difference

360 degree spike + 90 degree car rotation  = 450 TOTAL DEGREES!!!

I'm very dissapointed with the early analysis of this ride.  Considering how everyone brags about CP and how good it is I see it pretty sad that they would be getting a simple impulse.  Even if it is bigger what would it matter, Deja Vu isn't any better than Invertigo.  Come on CP an average Six Flags park usually isn't even shallow enough to just get an impulse by itself!

juanzo, let me see....no!

IOArules, what are you talking about?! I remember back in the off-season when several people were whining that, "They don't have a launched...why don't they get a launched?" Now you're about the only person that is complaining. Some people are never pleased!

Ok...

I remember multiple quotes about how Jeff said that he wasn't going to say anything about what the knew ride was because then he wouldn't be "in the know" again.  Well, I'm sorry ( I don't want to poke ) but he has pratically said it's an impulse by all his comments about people not believing that's what's coming for 2002.  If he has said that he wasn't going to tell us because then he wouldn't be told anything again, I'd think that he's ruined himself for getting to be "in the know" anymore by all of those comments.  This may be a long limb but I'm not believing any of this till the official announcement comes because either Jeff has lost his connections or he's just trying to go along with everyone who thinks it's an impulse to just confuse people.  (Sorry Jeff, I don't want to sound or be harsh with this)  Does anyone agree?

mforcealldaway,

The same thing crossed my mind, considering Jeff has basically came right out and said it's an impulse.  However, I'm thinking he has been granted permission to say all of the things he has said.

Of course, who am I?  I don't really know...:)

Yes, of course I'm not pleased.  I go to CP because they have fun and unique coasters you can't go on anywhere else.  You can ride an impulse at 3 different Six Flags parks, and one is less than 2hrs away from CP.  Not to mention it is almost 2 years old.  I don't see the big deal about them getting an impulse, you can already ride the exact same ride at 3 other parks!!!

Oh ye of little faith...

Come on guys, does anyone actually not think it's an Impulse at this point? After they announce it (not this week), will anyone start to trust me? Is this site known for posting rumors as news? I don't think so.

I know all kinds of people will cry about this ride, but let's put some things in perspective here. Can anyone really build a ride the magnitude of Millennium Force every year? Does it not make sense to balance the collection with things for people of all interests and ages? Do you think this revised Impulse is likely to be the only thing they're building?

Let's take a look at PKI. Whatever Tomb Raider is, don't you see they understand you can't build a Sonny every other year, and that even if you could it doesn't make sense?

No, you can definitly not do that.  That only comes once a decade.  But when has CP ever backed down.  Every other year since Magnum they have put in an awesome new unique ride.  I know you're probobly right Jeff thats why I'm so dissapointed.  You go to CP to get a new experience, but it doesn't seem like there will be a reason to visit next year.  A bigger and longer version of a shuttle isn't a big deal as Deja Vu has already proved.  Even some new flat rides won't mean a thing while other parks are getting 4D's, TA2K's, and CCI's.

That was my thought too...show up your competition with a bigger and better ride, build a launched ride that you have none of, and if there's no possible way to "one-up" your last ride, just build another coaster.

Some people are never pleased.  So you don't think the 2002 attraction will be worth a visit, IOArules.  One less person in front of me in line.  Maybe another ride in the very near future at CP will please you?
There is simply something not right about this. Jeff has ALWAYS said that those who know, don't tell. While I am sure that Jeff DOES know what they are getting, I find it hard to believe he would write a news item about it. The way he has been talking just seems really suspicious. This leads me to the conclusion that while everything he has said is true, he is leaving some major detail of this Impulse out that will allow him to tell us yet still shock us when it is announced.

I believe that this shuttle and impulse coaster boom will soon cool off. They are very inefficient as far as crowd turn-over, and are super-sensitive with many breakdowns. Unless an engineering feat happens in the near future, i think that they will dwindle in popularity. Don't get me wrong, i enjoy the unique ride experience, but they are impractical.
Jeff just told us what the coaster will be. The impulse will have greater capacity then S:UE and V2.

Whatever cedarpoint gets is whatever they get. I think if it is a impulse tha went 150 miles in 2 seconds and went over a 500 foot hill to be only picked up and dropped again people would do the same thing they did for mf. I got so sick and hearing people say well it sucks after the first hill. No matter what they do some people will never and I repeat some people will never be happy. then you have the die hard cedarpoint fans that could care less because they will like the park anyway. It really doesn't matter what they add because if you think about it they could add 15 restrooms and still bring in more people than most parks do.
Let's face it, all you haters of whatever this ride is, they're not building the ride just for enthusiasts. They're building it for everyone to enjoy. Let's leave the business decisions to the people who have the experience to do so.
I know that Acrophobia said this a long time ago, but Texas isnt a small state. It takes the same amount of time to get to Florida from Houston as it does to go across the entire state of texas. So it is alot easier to build clones in the same state if they are 5 or 6 hours apart. I dont really want CP to get an Impulse. And i have a question. If it is an impulse, why are they tearing down the Aquarium?

Everyone is so sure its an Intamin.  With the recent death on PP Knott's is pointing fingers at Intamin and Intamin is pointing fingers at Knotts.  Could this and the pending lawsuit from the family of the deceased possibly sour the relationship between CF and Intamin?

Matt - just speculatin'

Probably not, but it was a good thought...

I want to know why you can't have a dual stationed track on an Impulse, sort of like the one on Mr. Freeze. You'd have a station move into position, and another a train length long next to it. When the first train was done, you'd slide the other in, the first train would load, the second would traverse the track, and then you'd do it over again.

(If you've seen the Mr. Freeze setup, this is the EXACT same thing.) It would allow two train operation, and a MUCH greater capacity.
