Petition seeks to prevent Trump from speaking in The Hall of Presidents at Disney's Magic Kingdom

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

A recent a Change.org petition has surfaced from Matthew Rogers of Brooklyn, New York, requesting that the robotic Donald Trump not open his robotic mouth at the Hall of Presidents attraction at Magic Kingdom. The attraction is currently closed for refurbishment, presumably to add the 45th president.

Admittedly, Trump occupying that building as a robot makes my skin crawl. It was also weird when people cheered for Obamabot the last time I went, a week before it closed.

Regardless, American history is what it is (a pretty grim ****show, for much of the time), and if it ultimately shows The Donald to be the trainwreck he appears to be, so be it. History doesn't have alternative facts, because they're not a thing. We celebrate George Washington, but it's important to remember that he was a slave owner. We learn nothing if we're selective about the way we view history.

I agree. The attraction has always had the sitting president speak, correct? I don't care one bit for the loser of the popular vote , Donald Trump, but I didn't care for looser of the popular vote George W Bush, and we let him talk (a mistake many times, but still).

Yes, what is disturbing about the entire thing is not the issue of being a Trump supporter or not. The disturbing part is that President Trump won the election but the extreme left can't accept that and wants to push their will on the American people regardless. That is not how democracy works and it is a dangerous place to go. What is also disturbing is that during one of the debates the candidates were asked if they will accept the outcome of the election. Clinton was adamant that the results must be accepted because anything else would disrupt the core of our democracy. She is right, yet her campaign supported the ill fated recount (huge waste of money) and her supporters are primarily the people who are protesting.

Love him or hate him, Trump IS the president and should take is place in the Hall of Presidents. Some people need to grow up and move out of their parent's basements.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

He should be able to speak as he will tell it like it is. I want a president with balls not one who only cares about telling the people what they want to hear.

Having balls without humility or restraint is not a particularly strong quality in leadership.

Pete: I think your understanding of why people are protesting is not even remotely correct. This isn't about butthurt over who won, it's about civil rights and the Constitution. The concern gets more bipartisan every day, as well it should.

Assuming the Wiki article is correct: Lincoln was the only one with lines through GHW Bush. The show was re-written when Clinton was added, giving the sitting President lines.

It will be interesting to see if the show is re-written again. The closure is longer than typical, I think, so that might suggest something is going to change.

As long as Morgan Freeman continues to narrate, I don't care much either way.

No, he didn't win the election, he won the electoral college: so the majority of citizens who, well, bothered to vote, did not vote for him.

He lost the election by some 3 million votes.

I don't have an argument with the current President of the United States being represented in the Hall of Presidents.

Frankly, I do have an argument with a demostrably mysigonist, racist, homophobic, repeatedtly failed as a businessman, ignorant of the law person being represented as President.

I think the reason for the extended closure is that they couldn't decide whether to place Trump or Bannon....

Not to nitpick, but since our presidential election process is based on the electoral college and is not won or lost by popular vote (and has been that way since its inception), then yes, Trump won the election.

If we are going to object to a racist being represented as President, let us protest in unison the President who proudly said this quote:

Segregation is not a humiliation but a benefit, and ought to be so regarded by you gentlemen.

--Woodrow Wilson

Come to think about it, this quote is also sexist.

Yes, but .... and, yes, annoying austitc attention to detail is coming into play ... our election process is based on the electoral college, but the person who won the election and the person who won the electoral college are two different things.

Well, no because the electoral college is the election. This is a pointless thing to argue about. If you want to say, "It wasn't a majority of voters that voted for him," then yes, that's accurate, but, "He didn't really win," is silly.

What I find disturbing is the number of people who fall into this, "Deal with it, because he's the president" thing, and doubly disturbing is the people who think that anyone (and the press) should just silently accept anything government does. If this were the way we operated, we'd still have slaves and women wouldn't be able to vote. Apathy is ultimately what got the guy elected. More of that doesn't seem like it's in anyone's best interest.

Apathy and two of the lousiest candidates I've seen in my lifetime. Which can explain the apathy.

The us vs. them mentality is equally frustrating. If I stop anywhere short of blind worship of Trump, I'm obviously a Communist that committed voter ID to vote for Clinton more than a hundred times. If I don't wish anything but abject failure upon Trump, I am a robe-wearing Klansmen that takes my voting orders directly from Fox News.

That is assuming only Clinton supporters were apathetic. Remove apathy across the board and Trump would have won more votes also. Clinton's message of basically Obama v.2 didn't resonate with voters at all, plus the fact that she is just so unlikable was what killed her campaign. Much of her popular vote advantage came from California, understandable given the culture in that state. And what can you say about a so called woman's candidate that stays with a husband who had sex with more women than you can find in a whore house? And who received 25% of her campaign contributions from Saudi Arabien interests, a country that horribly oppresses women. No, we shouldn't just silently accept everything government does but I believe in giving Trump a chance. See where we are at after a year to form judgement on his competency for president. It is better than this ongoing stupidity that divides the country. Marching down the street wearing vagina hats does nothing except annoy the cops who have to be out on the street guarding things.

I don't think anyone is trying to defend a lousy campaign by a relatively unlikeable person. That said, the thing that Trump supporters don't seem willing to even observe is that an unlikeable person with status quo policy positions has no moral equivalency to a man who has said and done things that would disqualify most any individual for a job at McDonald's let alone the American presidency. You'd be hard pressed to find any concerned person who wouldn't gladly take any nominee of either major party in our lifetime over this guy. Seriously, brag about sexual assault at an employment interview and let me know if you get hired.

The campaign was ripe with racism and misogyny, the presidency so far is ripe with blatant attributes of fascism. All of the core tenets are there. You can't wave a flag and simultaneously be OK with fascism, as American democracy is fundamentally incompatible with it.
