You mean like nytimes.com? You have to pay to view their archived articles.

Actually they're free now. It changed recently.

Now if you'll excuse me I gotta go get tricked into buying some stuff at the grocery store.

I can tell you that it has been a very positive experience. A lot of club members I have not heard from in years have posted content in the club member forum. Why did they wait until now? To be honest, it has to do with the general asshattery that goes on in the general forum nowadays. Everyone has a snippy comment and many of the regulars who have been here for a long time are frankly fed up with it. Jeff saw that happening and he did something about it.

I find it amazing that the simple act of collecting $20.00 manages to filter out all of the asshattery and snippiness. It sounds like Jeff has created the perfect utopian forum where everybody gets along and everyone agrees with one another--and all for just $20.00 a year.

I belong to several pay-only forums. They are nearly all free of asshattery. I'm not entirely sure why this should be so, but it is empirically true.

Hey I could care less who pays what and what they get for paying it. In fact, I said it twice in all sincerity, if you're going for exclusivity, the price should be much, much more than $20. There are plenty of people here who think money's no object when it comes to parks, so why not put up?

Personally, it's never been worth the value for me to pay. I have plenty of non-coaster stuff going on in my life, so I couldn't have made it to any club events this year. (You can all breathe your sigh of relief now.) But why the antagonism toward those who aren't paid members?

I'm not the least bit offended whether you guys and gals want to have your own private treehouse as a perc for your paid membership. It's not like everybody is paying but only a certain select few are given special access. But if it's a place only for people who've known each other for years, or where only people who are in total agreement with each other are welcome, I'll pass.

Apparently, it's not so much the use of sarcasm of "asshattery" that bothers people so much as it is WHO uses it. If you and I think exactly alike, everything you say is totally witty and funny. If you don't love a park or a ride that I love or disagree with my opinion on anything, how dare you!

The snippy comments have come from all sides. Kick, Playa, Jeff, any of you are more than welcome to PM me and tell me who on this site is allowed to be sarcastic and who isn't.

It's not that we all agree, it's that there are less pointless posts to sift through since there are fewer members who have access. It's kind of refreshing. There are quite a few non-club members who post cohesive posts that do contribute to good discussion in General Buzz, but there is often a huge amount of fluff in between that gets tiresome to read. Hence, less noise in the Private forum.
The only thing I would say is that IMHO having a third of the topics in the Recent Posts section appearing as "SECRET!!!" is more likely to scare non-members away than get them to join.

Just my €0.02 as always.

I'm not a paid member but I guess I missed the part where I got antagonized.

CoasterBuzz has to resort to controversy to keep people interested anymore and that simply does not interest me.

Maybe you guys made all of those "SECRET!" topics on purpose. It is very possible considering the high praise the parks have been getting from those who control this site every time they come up with an elaborate scheme to trick their valued customers out of more cash.

Why the hell would anyone pay to join this ****? Are you that retarded that you find a plastic card with the Coasterbuzz logo & your name printed on such a significant icon for yourself?

...and just for the record, Do ACEers compete for knowledge?

Asshatery at its best... there are only eight threads so far in the private area, so far it includes none of this type of "discussion."

My thoughts exactly. The member's only forum has done a good job of bringing back some of the regular posters who felt uncomfortable in the zoo that the normal boards have become.

Oh, and to the original poster, I loved your work in the Brady Bunch.

Certain victory.

Or, if you're like me you can practice dickery and asshattery simulataneously

"dickery" I'm going to be the government I'm not going to ask so please don't tell... Anyway, as a coaster fan I used my membership and in just 1 month saved way more than I spent with 11 months left...

Intimidator 305 the tallest most hated coaster nobody has ever ridden...

If the regular, noisy forum filled with non-paying members is so annoying, why are all the paying members still using it? That's what I'd like to know.
That's just it, Rob. Most people who post in the club member forum don't post in the regular forum. Your perception of "all" is more like a handful.

Really? A lot of people here are talking about how great the private forum is so they must have actually seen the private forum... yet they're posting here, talking about how lame this forum is all of a sudden.
I want a non-members only forum. That just might be the only way to see the true origin of the asshattery.
How does one even put on asshat? Is there some kind of strap that goes around the waist? Also, it strikes me as making it rather difficult to sit down. "Pardon me. I'd join you, but I'm wearing this dang asshat."

And where do you actually get one? Is there some kind of asshaberdasherie you can shop at? Are there different sizes of asshats? Styles? If I sit on my Indians cap, is that a baseball asscap? Do asshats ever go out of fashion? Do cowboys have ten gallon asshats?

And is your asshome the place where you hang your asshat? I'm ass-uming it is.

So there are essentially three people making noise about how they don't like the private forum or question its value or maybe just making noise. What does that say?

Jeff - Editor - CoasterBuzz.com - My Blog

Show me where someone said they didn't like the idea of a private forum. I certainly didn't read that anywhere. You're confusing discussion with complaining.

I don't see any discussion, just vague assertions that nobody wants or needs the member forum, which is obviously not true.
