A side-friction woodie or wooden bobsled: Mother-in-Law of The Beast!
You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)
After finding detailed images of this permit, we know the orientation and scale of the ride. Here was my last attempt before really scrutinizing for scale. The station in the drawing is about 55ft long. (I'm not exactly sure how that scale matches my original, but it's not off by very much.) This gives the ride about 2700ft of length in plan view, which translates to 3500ft (+/-) after elevation is considered. One thing to note is that the "area of work" has a significant grade from SSE to NNW, and has the north end of an abutment. (Which may or may not be a bridge over the walkway or train tracks.)
But what does it have to do with the cleared "falling trees" area? This seems awfully far away from the midway.
Unless there's a new path, a new area for us to enjoy. Maybe with Overland Auto Livery antiques making a return someday? It was a promise.
If this ride takes advantage of terrain it could be awesome.
Sorry, Travis. Good try...
Thanks. I like how CP Maverick's orientation fits in with the water. It makes the most sense of all the guesses I've seen so far. However, it is really far from the midway, and if this is correct, why did they change the path to White Water Canyon and demolish the Funnel Cake stand? And why is there the (probably true) rumor of the log flume leaving after this season? And yes, why of the land clearing behind the train station?
A new ride area would be awesome, and make sense. I have pretty much given up on the auto antiques returning at this point. Does the park even have those in storage anymore? Could they even get them running?
But then "conspiracy theory Travis" takes over my thoughts... Does anyone remember the "leaked" plans for "The Bat" that came out to fool us right before the real info on Banshee was announced? Everyone lost their *bleeping* minds, then had a good laugh when the real plans came out.
Either something is not right, or some major information is missing, or they are building a really long walkway to get to the new coaster. The Bat has a really long entrance, and White Water Canyon has/had a long entrance, so it's not out of the question.

Unless they plan to develop the land between the train and the ride, which may be possible. It really seems like it's about the same distance from the games to The Beast entrance/exit area. [This all assumes the orientation and scale is correct, based on the limited information we have.]
Oh I totally get it. And that path/entrance to WWC looks like it surely could be relocated/redone. It's so temporary feeling.
I'm normally not much for this stuff, but for some reason I find this project fascinating.
The layout a few posts above seems to make sense. No rotation of the print or the map to make it fit, plus it accounts for the marking seen in the top left corner of the plan being the corner of one of the picnic shelters. I like the interaction with Diamondback. It reminds me of Thunderbird and the Voyage at Holiday World.
When I first saw the cleared funnel cake location and the area behind it I thought it would be a great location for an antique car ride. With a slightly elevated station the cars could easily make it over the train track which sits slightly lower than the cleared area, plus they already have paths through the woods that could be extended.
Kings Island is marketing "Watch for falling trees" and I think at Cedar Point we should "watch for a removed Cadillac Cars." Cedar Fair is all about "placemaking" and the placement of the Cadillac Cars in the front/middle of the park just does not fit in anymore with Valravn.
It is possible that we could see a new coaster at Kings Island in 2017 but I think that we will see a return of the cars in 2017 and a new coaster in 2018. The plans say "Kings Island 2017 Project" which could mean the work will be done in 2017 for the 2018 season. Perhaps the "area of work" in the center of the plan may be the only area we will see work done in the 2016/2017 off season besides the assumingly already approved plan for the cars. This would follow the typical rotation of: coaster, family/thrill ride, water park, family/thrill ride, coaster, etc.

That's not happening. It's a coaster, and it may have a small plaza in front of it. I don't know what this stuff about antique cars is or where it came from, but it seems highly unlikely. Parks don't build those any more, they're a relic of the past.

When Kings Island removed the Antique Cars to build Italian Job, the story was that the ride was kept for an eventual return in the future. It comes up every time they add something new.

I see. But that was 12 years ago and under different management. It's not happening. And who the eff thinks it's a good idea to theme a roller coaster around that piece of crap Italian Job movie?

If Antique Car rides are a relic of the past, why did Valley Fair (another Cedar Fair Park) install a new one in 2014?

The cars were sent to Worlds of Fun, and the track rails were scrapped.
And that still hasn't stopped it from coming up every single time KI has added something since.

You're talking about the same folks who thought it was a good idea to theme a wooden coaster--nay, an entire area--around Wayne's World.

Forgot about that. Speaking of which, what is that area currently themed as?
