New GravGroup woodie for Texas

Potential #2 ride! Can't beat Voyage but VERY LIKELY to be a #1 year round coaster! That's right I emailed the park and they say the rides are open daily. But the park may be closed in Christmas & Easter but it's just a guess. Only time the coaster would not operate is when it's down for maintenence or for poor weather conditions. Otherwise year round airtime pleasure!! Hope they have good ride ops!

They are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas for sure, I don't remember about other holidays.

So now we have the ability to rate coasters before they're even built. This thread has gone into complete Gravity Group homer mode.

Honestly, I think he kinda has a point. I don't see another wooden coaster being built, That long, with that much intensity, EVER again unless Will Koch builds another.

Thats not to say some darn fine coasters won't be built and can be totally enjoyed by all.

So what wrong with some GG love, I mean people make love threads on this site don't they?

^ Apparently you CAN....all you need to rate a ride is a blueprint showing LAYOUT. Because it HAS been shown (see wood coaster poll results thread) that all rides with the same layout are created equal! ;)

Can't WAIT to get back to SFMM, I need a Psyclone fix (*any* Cyclone in a storm, LOL)... :)

Hey, it worked for The Voyage didn't it? ;)

Six Flags, in it's advertising, was calling El Toro the best wooden coaster on the planet before it was finished being built. So why isn't everybody on the planet agreeing with Six Flags comments?

Because Six Flags is WRONG. ;)

I wonder what the GP's consensus would be if Voyage and El Toro were in the same park. Would they prefer ET's obnoxious smoothness or Voyage's more out of control sensation?

^ "obnoxious smoothness"....tell us how you REALLY feel, Matt... :~P
Notice I said potential! I didn't make final judgment except that the reason it wouldn't beat Voyage becuse Voyage has more airtime spots because its a much longer ride but I love the layout of this new ride and I expect it to be an easy top 5 and it look like it might be like a twisted Avalanche.

BTW Chuck I do see Voyage possibly being beaten in the future with a ride thaat long and intense. The park that would do it is Mt. Olympus. Nick hinted at building something bigger and while talking to the ACE regional rep for Wisconsin (forgot his name)@ HWN @ HW he did say something about a record breaking woodie of some type in the future for Mt. Olympus with something never tried before in a woodie but that was all he could say at the moment! So yes there is at least one more park that may try to top Voyage and if I win the next record breaking Powerball you will know who will build a park with a cross between El Toro, Hades, Kemah's Woodie (the turnaround of my ride would be similar to that ride) & Voyage (a layout similar to Voyage with a 77-80 degree first drop and extremely strong airtime like on El Toro) breaking all woodie records!! ME! So I can see it possibly being done! *** Edited 12/12/2006 3:59:14 PM UTC by Pink Floyd Fanatic*** *** Edited 12/12/2006 4:02:40 PM UTC by Pink Floyd Fanatic*** *** Edited 12/12/2006 4:03:37 PM UTC by Pink Floyd Fanatic*** *** Edited 12/12/2006 4:04:26 PM UTC by Pink Floyd Fanatic***

It is a FACT that The Voyage is the greatest thing on the planet!!
It sure is nice seeing people enthused about something coming to the Bayou City. We haven't had much good news down here in awhile.
Is this news Bootlegged?
They started building the structure today...

Hooray! Thanks Jason for keeping us up to date on the construction with your pics.

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!
It is amazing they can fit this woodie in! :) I looked at a satelite image and the space I think it is going is barely 300 feet long! I'm glad they made the best possible choice in the world. They only other possible way to expand without removing anything is the add a 200x1000 foot long pier to the east on the NE corner or the park. It is IMPOSSIBLE to them to add anything better than a world class woodie!! The next best choice would have been a perimeter B&M hypercoaster over the water (if that is possible without the need for a pier) or a Maurer Soehne Xtended Power Tower with tilting seats with earthquake mode (I can see that happening since that would take minimal amount of space for a major ride) I hope they can buy out those houses. There is a white 2 story house right next door to the new woodie! I wouldn't mind living there! :) But I wouldn't be home much because I would be riding that woodie all the time! :) *** Edited 12/17/2006 6:52:31 AM UTC by Pink Floyd Fanatic*** *** Edited 12/17/2006 6:53:23 AM UTC by Pink Floyd Fanatic*** *** Edited 12/18/2006 12:17:04 AM UTC by Pink Floyd Fanatic***

I plan on updating my photo gallery once a week right now, usually on Sat or Sun. Once it stays light out later I may be able to make a mid-week update after work as well (right now it would be too dark by the time I got there).

I don't know if anyone lives in those houses next to where the ride is being built or not, never paid that much attention. If people do live there, I imagine they aren't going to be too happy with this addition.

I only live about 5 miles away from where this is being built. Certainly hope they offer some sort of pass or something...or I'm going to go broke next summer.
