Made my first visit to MiA yesterday and came away very impressed with most aspects of the parks appearance and operation.
Very good wood but if a new coaster goes in, it needs to be steel, IMHO. I'd vote for an inverted.
I loved the section of the park where Thunderbolt, Trapeze, Falling Star, Trabant and Tilt-a-Whirl are located. And I must say that Thunderbolt plays the BEST music of any Music Express type rides that I've encountered. While stretching out on the grass in the shade of the Log Flume while the kiddies hit these rides, we heard Springsteen's Promised Land, Cheap Trick's Surrender, Led Zep and the Stones! It was such a relief not to assaulted with latest urban pop dance groove. Now if they would only do something about the Disco (!) noise screaming out of the Rising Waters game.
The utility trenches running along the fence between ST and the parking lot are far from "huge" but are obviously for electrical and telecom, probably for the new parking toll booths.
I've read a few posts here regarding the relative lack of attention Cedar Fair pays to the "other" parks in the chain that don't end with the work Point yet the park map lists the following as new for 2002: Rip Cord, Be-Bop Blvd., Hydroblaster, Timbertown Railway, Dodgems and Go-Karts. Is this true? Seems CF has paid a good deal of attention to MiA.
Be-Bop Blvd has been "new" for two or three years now. Cedar Fair finally finished the consruction of it!
Thunderbolt has a good range of music: I liked when it played Coal Chamber and Disturbed but who ever was controling it started fliping through the songs and started to play rap/R&B stuff. I was hopping they would play Slipknot but the guy change the songs, oh well. I have heard the songs you mentioned on there.
Hopfully those lines will power something else in the park!!

Nope...sorry goku, those lines are for the new entrance and booths. No luck there bud.
What footers are we discussing here folks. I saw nothing out there that appeared to be footers. There is a lot of recycled concrete slabs and piles here and there, but I didn't see the footers. The aforementioned suits and contractors that were seen milling about were actually there surveying for a flat ride, not a coaster. Sorry to disappoint y'all on that one folks. The surveying for the coaster ....oops...almost let one out there. shhhhh.... ;)

Man that suxs, but on a side note:
Flat ride, hmmmmm...........By the process of elimination I'd say that is going some were over in the area of The Falling Star and Thunderbolt. From ST Chick's post about hoping that no one is to attached to them, I’d say there is good chance it’s headed that way. On top of that that area hasn’t really received a makeover (minus by the log ride). This area could easily be re-done to accommodate a large attraction. Even the water area was never cleaned up. An S&S combo tower could fit in there, but I’m not sure if you would classify it as a flat ride. Perhaps a Huss Frisbee could go there!
A coaster would be nice too, but it's not likely they would pull an Indiana Beach and cram a woodie in there. A coaster could go over some where in the area of Adventure falls and would go along with a path being placed there!

I hate to start any unnecessary rumors but how's this for a thought: many of my sources are saying that Intamin is gonna have a HUGE year here in the states. We already know CP and VF are getting new coasters from them...could it be that a few other CF parks will as well? If so, will MiA be one of them? I know this much for sure: KBF will not receive another new coaster until 2004, so that leaves WoF, Dorney, and MiA in the running.
Just a thought....

Waiting for the CP announcement to be made so that about 1000+ posts will be made complaining about it.

All I need is 4.5 million bucks and a half a mile long sliver of land and maybe someone could build me my very own Shivering Timbers. ;)

Enthusiasts always remember: You used to be part of the GP too!
Hopefully attendance will increase next season as word spreads about the park. I admit after living my entire life in Michigan, I didn't even know MiA existed until I caught Shivering Timbers on one of the coaster shows. There was no advertising to speak of.
ST is a fantastic woodie, and Timbersfest is a great way to spread the news. But one major coaster and water park aren't enough yet to draw crowds from the east side of the state. Especially not after the chaos incident that was literally plastered all over the news and papers in the Detroit area. People would rather go to CP.
I can guarantee at least 6 more visitors next season from friends and family who are picking up CP season passes for next season and plan to visit MiA.

Nothing big this year...Perhaps a flat ride. A nice shiny new ride would help attendance!
I agree with you CPLady. We need another major attraction! A coaster of decent proportions would definitely help attendance. But unfortunately Rome wasn’t built in a day, we have to wait some more…But Continued visual and Midway expansions are fine with me for the time being. I'll be glad with a path behind Wolverine Wildcat and if we get a flat hopefully it will fill in some empty space behind Wolverine Wild Cat.
To look on the bright side we will actually are going to have parking booths. Hurray no more umbrellas!!!!! (We need some in the park for shaded eating-places though; That’s one thing that I would really like to see)
