Luna Park-Loony Prices

I was scoping out the prices at Luna Park in Coney with a thought of going over there tomorrow. They're not open on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend! What's that about? With a lot of people having a short day tomorrow, I would have thought they'd open.

But I was pretty surprised at the pricing. There's no combo ticket for Luna/Scream Zone. If I buy a $30 unlimited ride wristband for Luna, I'd also have to buy a Luna Card with ride credits ($1 each) in order to ride Steeplechase (7), Soarin' Eagle,(7) and the Cyclone (8) So that's 22 bucks on top of the 30..$52 so far. Throw in a Nathan's dog and orangeade, and factor in public transportation costs (I mostly refuse to drive in NYC)..we're talking $70!..for what appear to be rides that are mediocre at best..although Steeplechase holds some appeal for me.

An alternate would be to get a $35 Luna card with 40 credits on it. By the time I rode the 5 coasters, even one time each, I'm down to 8 credits, because Tickler and Circus Coaster are 5 credits each. So that would leave me very little to work with for a few other rides at Luna.

This is why I prefer single gate admission that includes unlimited rides on everything, or Knoebels-style parks where it's only a buck or two per ride if you don't get a wristband.

Luna and Scream Zone may have shut me out, but we'll see.

I probably won't be hitting a park this weekend.

If you go, don't miss the Air Race in the center of Luna Park. One of the single best flat rides ever and worth every penny!

I couldn't go there without also riding the Wonder Wheel. So that's what, another $5-$6. Yeah, you can easily spend a lot of money at Coney. I end up going there once or twice a year, but only ride a handful of things.

Air Race is one of the best new flats to come out in a LONG time...haven't been that excited since my first lap on Toy Story...and that is SAYING something... ;)

I'm going to say this once. Entertainment isn't (and shouldn't be) cheap. I don't find $70 to be unreasonable for a day at an amusement park that includes a little bit of food. Sure, it would be better at $40, but then you'd do it more often, and it would lose its thrill.

With my limited means these days, Mike, I understand where you're coming from. But on the other hand, remember that this is New York City. Nothing's cheap there. Not admissions to attractions, not the food, not parking.

^Exactly....when I go to the Northeast (anything north of MD and east of PA) - I expect to spend *about* 50% more per day what it would cost to vacation elsewhere... money's relatively "cheap" up there. From my experience, wages there are commensurate with the cost of living. Just makes it expensive for those of us living on "normal wages" elsewhere.

That AIr Race looks pretty cool.

Yeah, but if it was that cool, there would already b... ah, nevermind.

Pwned by an incomplete link! That'll put you in your place, Josh.

Dammit. I knew I should have stayed in bed today. Of course, if I was supposed to be in bed all day, there would be a bed by my desk.

So, um, anyway.

I hope Coney is successful again this year. I think they've got a good business model in place and those prices should work for them. That being said, I'm with Mike in that it has priced me out of the market personally. I'm not necessarily against spending $70 for a day (or a few hours) worth of entertainment, I've spent a lot more than that, but I'm not willing to spend $70 for a day there. Simple personal preference.

I can't stop laughing, especially about where Billb's link goes to...

Unless you have a young Republicans club in here, Demand creates supply. Amusement Park goers demand that things be freshened up from time to time.

More correctly I should have linked "Straw Man" because you keep appealing to something I never said.

It's the most entertainment on CoasterBuzz since the Flashpass debate! Maybe you should have Billb join you on the Podcast, Jeff. :D

It is a really good thing I wasn't drinking anything when I got to your post! My keyboard/comp might not have worked after that. ;)

I don't think he's gotten it that his original line (and himself, in a way) has become a kind of CB meme.
