The park was not over built
This is good. This short phrase allowed me to skip reading the rest of the diatribe as it immediately disqualified any other stated opinion from being valid. Phrases like this should, in the future, be placed at the very beginning of posts to save me from having to read even the first paragraph.
Hey Lord Gonchar...and anyone else interested.
Why would six flags sell a profitable park? Because they needed the money! Why did Donald Trump sell his baby, the trump tower, because he needed the money, why did he sell his profitable casinos, because he needed the money. All of his businesses were failing as a whole, just as Six Flags was failing as a whole. He sold his most lavish properties, because he knew they would sell, and made money selling them. Six Flags did the same, and now they are on the rebound.
Why does Cedar Fair buy property if is or is not failing? The same reason Walmart buys up smaller successful retailers, so they can shut down the competition and liquidate their assets, and then turn around and sell the property. Which is exactly what Cedar Fair has done with Geauga Lake, and, also were attempting to do with Great America in California over the stupid stadium debate, until they learned how much of an impact doing so would be a backlash against them if they tried.
Businesses do very stupid things all the time over petty issues. Look at Walmart, built a whole bunch of brand new stores in a western sate. (Not sure which one.) Only to close every single store they just built, because the employees wanted to form a union. And, also the only reason why there are no Walmart or Meijer stores in Chicago, because they refuse to pay the living wage, and building around them just as fast as US corporations build factories as close to the US border as they can, so they no longer have to pay american labor costs.
They do things with little care of anything, or anyone they hurt in the process. Another thing that left Geauga Lake, was thousands of summer jobs.
Another thing about Walmart, if you want to talk successful business. I worked for Meijer, which is a successful growing midwest retailer. Did you know that Walmart has made repeated offers to buy the company? To the tune of 2 billion dollars? (Which Meijer makes in profit in a year.) Why would Walmart take such a risk to buy a successful company?
Ans why would Meijer sell? The only reason they have not so far, is because the owner of the company Fred Meijer would not sell to them no matter how much they offered. Now he is gone, and his son's own the company. But, you can bet, if they did not, it would be gone in a heartbeat, and Walmart would close it faster than a cat can lick itself.
Oh and by the way. Walmart is huge...all over the world. So, no bigger is not always better. In fact it can be more consuming than a black hole.
I didn't do it! I swear!!
Do your homework. Walmart has 8 businesses in the city limits of Chicago (including their stand alone grocery stores).
My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.
Now is that in the city of Chicago? or in a suberb? The Chicago metro area is made up of many different cities. Like I said, Walmart is building around the Chicago area. A store that is built in Lincolnshire, or, one of the outlying burbs for example, might not have the same living wage standards as Chicago has.
I have been to Chicago many times, and have not seen or heard of a Walmart in the city of Chicago. I have seen many other retailers, but not Walmart. Where are these 8 locations you speak of? The only big box retailer I have actually seen in the Chicago city limits is Home Depot, and 7-11, which is about on every corner. And, maybe Walgreens.
Working for Meijer. They are also building in the Chicago area, but not in the city of Chicago. There is a difference. The living wage in Chicago was $8.00 an hour. I think it has gone up since then, and they are doing everything they can to avoid paying it.
I didn't do it! I swear!!
Thanks for the geography lesson, but a quick check of the Internet (try it) shows nine Walmart stores with actual Chicago Il addresses.
The biggest obstacle to getting Walmart in Chicago wasn't wages, but was Mayor Daley's fight to "beat" labor unions that were opposed to the store opening up non-union shops in the city.
Why would six flags sell a profitable park? ...Why did Donald Trump sell his baby, the trump tower, because he needed the money, why did he sell his profitable casinos.... All of his businesses were failing as a whole, just as Six Flags was failing as a whole. He sold his most lavish properties, because he knew they would sell, and made money selling them. Six Flags did the same, and now they are on the rebound.
You speak nonsense, my friend. If Six Flags, Donald Trump, or any other company you care to name were failing, the last thing they would do is sell off the parts of their business that were making money.
You speak nonsense, my friend. If Cedar Fair bought Geauga Lake to shut it down, then they would have bought Geauga Lake and shut it down. That you think Cedar Fair would buy a park and spend mountains of money and time to convert it to a Cedar Fair park demonstrates your lack of understanding of how a business works, not a nefarious plot by Cedar Fair.
...also the only reason why there are no Walmart or Meijer stores in Chicago, because they refuse to pay the living wage, and building around them just as fast as US corporations build factories as close to the US border as they can, so they no longer have to pay american labor costs.
As noted, not true. The company I work for here in Chicago is equidistant between two Walmart stores. Which are just two of the Walmart stores in the Chicago city limits.
They do things with little care of anything, or anyone they hurt in the process....
Any company does things with great care of their profits. Profits are why businesses are in business. Why is that hard to understand?
Another thing about Walmart, if you want to talk successful business. I worked for Meijer, which is a successful growing midwest retailer. ...Ans [sic] why would Meijer sell? The only reason they have not so far, is because the owner of the company Fred Meijer would not sell to them no matter how much they offered. Now he is gone, and his son's own the company. But, you can bet, if they did not, it would be gone in a heartbeat, and Walmart would close it faster than a cat can lick itself.
Does it occur to you that Meijer might not want to sell itself to Walmart for other reasons? On what basis should I bet Meijer would have been sold off "faster than a cat can lick itself" if his "son's" didn't own the company?
I'm surprised I have beat my fellow Michigan's Adventure fan Timber-Rider to the punch.
So I check the Michigan's Adventure website every once in a while and click on the "What's New" button on the far left hand side of the screen.
Usually you are greeted with the brand spanking new for this year (not really) Lakeside Gliders!!!!1!!
But wait!....
Clicked on the "What's New" button tonight...
Are you sitting down Timber-Rider?
There is a new attraction coming to Michigan's Adventure for 2014!!!
Finally an announcement!
New for 2014 at Michigan's Adventure:
More Bite for your Buck - All Day Dining Plan - $23.99
With the All Day Dining Plan, you'll never go hungry*, but you'll save a bundle. Enjoy an entree and a side every time you choose to stop in at one of the participating restaurants** inside the park. Best of all, there's only a 90-minute wait time between meals.
*All Day Dining wrist band includes an entrée and a side at participating restaurants during your day at Michigan's Adventure. All Day Dining has a 90 minute blackout window between each meal.
**All Day Dining Plans only available at specified dining locations. These locations include: Wildcat Grill, Wagon Wheel Pizza, Pizza Paradise, Coasters and Beach Bites.
We did it Timber-Rider!!! WE DID IT!!! We asked for a new attraction and boy did we receive!! EAT IT Cedar Point!!
(Yes, I am aware CP has announced a similar deal, but their deal costs $29.99. MiAdv's is $6, count them SIX, $6 dollars cheaper! Plus does CP have as fine of dining as MiAdv? I think not!!)
Woo HOOOO!!!
Wonder if any other parks in the chain are doing this? Love me some AYAC at a park.
I know Carowinds did a picnic, but this would be better.
We did the Uni Florida AYAC once and the food was good, the selection was great, it was really AYAC, and it even included dinner at CityWalk. $30. Twas great.
A quick search yielded these results for Cedar Fair:
California's Great America : New for 2014 - All Day Dining Plan - $25.99
Knott's Berry Farm: NO New Dining Plan for 2014 yet announced
World's Of Fun: New for 2014 - All Day Dining Plan - $25.99
Valleyfair: New for 2014 - All Day Dining Plan - $25.99
Michigan's Adventure: New for 2014 - All Day Dining Plan - $23.99
Kings Island: New for 2014 - All Day Dining Plan - $29.99
Cedar Point: New for 2014 - All Day Dining Plan - $29.99
Canada's Wonderland: New for 2014 - All Day Dining Plan - $29.99
Dorney Park: New for 2014 - All Day Dining Plan - $29.99
Kings Dominion: New for 2014 - All Day Dining Plan - $29.99
Carowinds: New for 2014 - All Day Dining Plan - $29.99
So it appears that Knotts Berry Farm is the only park not receiving the All Day Dining Plan. (unless they are the only park yet to add it to their website)
Michigan's Adventure still wins the prize though! It's like someone at the Cedar Fair executive board brought in a Gatekeeper Plinko board not currently being used and added the New for 2014 All Day Dining Plans at the bottom.
All of the parks won a sparkling new All Day Dining Plan except Knotts. Ha ha! Sucks to be you! Here is a coupon for half off another game. But wait! We don't stop there! No no no!
Michigan's freaking Adventure wins the freaking Jackpot prize! All the other parks, yeah, your gonna pay $26-$30 a pop, not at Michigan's Adventure! OH NO! NOPE, you my friend are paying the low low price of $23.99!!! And in my honest opinion, MiAdv has hands down the best restaurant options available too! It's a win win!
Now for round two. The CF execs load the board up with new prizes at the bottom. This time, New rides and attractions for 2014 are up!! How exciting!!
Oooooooooooooooooooooooh. Michigan's Adventure comes out empty handed! Nothing new.... Those stupid folk in Michigan won't know the difference. (They keep lining up at the gate. heh heh)
