I woulden't say the ride is boring, because it's actualy really crazy, but it's not gonna make me rush out to get a 2011 season pass eather.
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Well that would fit one of the starflyer rides right? If so how does that bring back memories? That wouldnt get me to buy a season pass. I wasnt hoping for a coaster but this is honestly a boring ride.
So you've ridden a Star Flyer? Where? Which one?
I would imagine it to be pretty exciting. The swingy rides that "only" get 20 or so feet off of the ground scare the crap out of me sometimes. I'm sure swinging around by a few chains hundreds of feet in the air would really be quite terrifying.

Am I the only one who keeps typing "Stratosaur"? I keep picturing a giant T-Rex chomping on the Space Spiral. Or possibly Raptors on Raptor.
I rode the one at Holiday Park in Germany and had the death grip on the whole time. If they build one like the latest installation at Weiner Prater they're going to need to add a trouser store at the exit.
I consider these to be a tier 1 flat ride.

Supposedly there is an "emphasis" on StraToSphere.....STS.....think maybe we need to take a look at the Funtime rocketship vehicle :)
Anybody remember what was the very first ride to operate at Cedar Point? Not counting the Young Reindeer, of course.
I've ridden three tower swings. The one at Magical Midway, and two ARM knock-offs, one at the Florida State Fair, the other *inside* the I-X Center in Cleveland. THAT was exciting for all the wrong reasons...!

The water swing was the first. Unless you count the slide as a ride, because it was there at the same time.

You guys raise a valid point, intentionally or not. At what point does a thrill ride become too costly to build because it's thrill factor is SO high that it doesn't interest enough of the general public? Disney had to address that with Mission: Space by offering a "tamer" experience for folks who couldn't handle the simulator.
Yeah, there's a lot of things I'll at least try once, in fact, I'll do almost anything when it comes to "thrills" without even batting an eyelash. Swinging around 200-400 feet in the air, in a plastic seat that's hanging on by chains, is not on the top of my list.
Then, you throw in downtime, and the ride e-stops at the top for 10 minutes, my day is ruined. :)
I did a Starflyer at the State Fair of WV, and it was a short one, and it was terrifying. I doubt I'd do this if it turns out to be true.
^^^The too extreme argument is an interesting one. In my opinion it's part of the reason we've seen a drop off in the number of huge pure freefall towers (thinking Intamin 2nd & 3rd gens). Maybe it's just my perception, but even on busy days at Kennywood the Pitt Fall rarely has more than a 5 minute wait or so. I was there a month or so ago and waited <5 minutes in the midddle of a warm, sunny Saturday, when it was only running 2 sides (for a whopping 8 riders per cycle). It's one of my favorite rides at the park, but its consistently dwindling ridership makes me fearful of its longevity at the park.
I305 also appears to have crossed the too-extreme line (speculation on its wheel-eating tendencies aside), but was (sloppily) "fixed" to bring it down to a level more palatable by the everyday thrill seeker rather than the hardened enthusiast extreme junky.
For me though Star Flyer's really don't really fit my definition of 'extreme' rides persay. Nothing about their ride experience is particularly intense from a G perspective, nor are they particularly fast, BUT what they *do* do that is fairly unique these days is make you feel very, very, very exposed. I love them because (and I'm sure this is a sentiment that many of you share), after riding so many coasters and thrill rides around the globe, it's rare that I see a ride that still 'gets' me... a ride that brings me back to the unease and nervousness that I felt wayyy back when I first strapped (and I use the term loosely) my butt into the Jack Rabbit and held on to my dad with a death grip until it was over. I have to say, the monstrous version of the Star Flyer looks to be one of those rides. I'd *love* to see one show up at CP.

The "Raven's" are in agreement. Although, I haven't and probably won't ride the Skyscraper either (pretty much for the same reasons), so technically this one won't be the first CP ride that I won't try.
Oh, and the name sucks. Unless it is a giant Dinosaur.

30 Ravens agree. :)
I absolutely LOVE the Skyscraper. LOVE it. There's a slim chance I may get on a starflyer, but it's one of those rides that makes my feet break out into cold sweats just thinking about it. Then again, the thought of a 420 ft, 120 MPH ride used to do kind of the same thing, and now it's child's play.
There are FAR more safety mechanisms on a ride like TTD (or even Power Tower) than on one of these Starflyers (or at least it certainly appears so). That's why you won't catch me on one.
