Kinzel hints at 2011 ride in Sandusky Register

I haven't had season passes for the last 2 seasons. Mostly because we bought a house and have plenty more on our plates, but there's also the part where going every weekend made it far less "special". Now that I go once or twice a year, I feel like I used to when I was in high school, and CP is once again more than just "something to do".

Well, they do have some of the highest priced season passes out there,

To me, Cedar Fair is right in the mix of reasonable Season pass Pricing. Especially when you compare it to other parks pricing. You sited SF America. I believe that is the cheapest SF pass you can get. Each SF park has it's own pricing, just like the CF parks. Here is a list of many of the parks within about 300 miles of Cedar Point. There are prices here that seem high to me, but I don't believe CP's is one of them.

Holiday World - $150

Hershey Park - $140

Cedar Point - $112

Indiana Beach - $100

Coney Island - $100

Camden Park - $100

Kennywood - $90

Delgrosso's - $80

Great America is $75

Idlewild - $70

Martin's Fantasy Island - $70

Sea Breeze - $67

Waldameer - $60

Considering that the $140 I spent on my Cedar Fair pass is less than I used to spend on a pass for Cedar Point alone *and it includes parking*, it really is a tremendous value to someone like me who gets out a bit. And living in Columbus, it's a really good value because where I used to have a Cedar Point pass, a Kings Island pass and a Six Flags pass, I now have only a Cedar Fair pass (sorry, but I don't go to the Zoo enough to justify a pass there). So when Cedar Fair increased their pass prices a few years ago, my season pass bill actually went *down* for the same level of utility. For me, that's a pretty good deal.

But then, I live in Columbus, roughly half way between Cedar Point and Kings Island, and there is a high probability that I might visit another Cedar Fair park this year.

If you get JUST the cedarpoint pass and not the platinum, it's $112, but that does not include parking.

As seen here..

http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/admission/season_passes/index.cfm

I got our six flags passes for $50 each, and only had to shell out $40 more to add parking to 1 of our passes. That is good for the gate AND parking at all six flags parks.

Yes, I agree it's very cheap. But just because SF wants to give away the gate, doesn't mean CF needs to as well.

The low cost of the gate is part of what turned Six Flags Ohio into a babysitter park.

Kinda makes you wonder if they're pushing people to choose the Platinum CF pass, huh? ;)

What's the break-even point on the CP pass? Probably 3 or 4 visits?

Add $10 parking each visit and you're basically paying the same as the Platinum pass.

That's not a coincidence.

Usually with $10 parking and paying the discounted admission you get online or thru promos, 3 trips adds up to the $120 quickly.

Six Flags sucks at pass pricing. They should be way, way higher than they are. I think they're leaving a ton of money on the table. I'd even suggest that CF Platinum is a little on the low side.

I am not nessesaraly arguing that the cost of the platinum pass is priced too high or too low, I am comparing it to other park chains and what there pricing is.

Busch season passes may be about the same as cedarfair(actually a few bucks less), but they have much better parks, and a lot more to offer us. To us, it is worth it. After you are inside a bush park, you are confronted with good food at good prices, great theming and landscaping, great shows, great rides, the service is just awsome.Things you will not find at a cedarfair park. The multi park pass that busch offers, gets you into 9 different parks. As seen here...

Cedarpoint has some of the best rides around, but that's about it for us. The rest of what they offer is probaly the worst of any chain or park out there. We will still go there, and will have some good times, but not nearly as much as we used to.

I can walk out of Busch, Disney, Universal, Most six flags parks, Dollywood, sea world, kennywood...ect..ect, and will spend my money, but not leave at the end of the night feeling like I was taken for every penny I have. For some reason I feel fleeced when I leave cedarpoint.

I guess what I am getting at, is that I don't mind paying more if I feel I am getting a good product. We just don't feel that way about cedarfair(mainly cedarpoint).

So, just out of curiosity, other than the pass price, what is six flags giving you that is so great?

<edit>

And no, I'm not being sarcastic. I really want to know.

Well, I'm sure CFEC feels that you are getting your money's worth with the platinum pass because it gets you access to twice as many as Busch. Granted, if the quality is more your thing (as it is mine), then Busch seems the better value.

I'd like to add in that CF has some "passholder events" that aren't upcharged....I've never gotten ERT at a SF park without an additional charge AFAIK.

Just to throw it in there....we were going to SpringCon in SoCal this year. I had both CF and SF passes, and we were debating what to get for Jill, since she doesn't travel nearly as much as I do. Turned out the "event discount"" for CF passholders was about $20-25 due to gate admission for KBF. The discount for SF passholders for SFMM gate....FIVE BUCKS! Shows you how much SF thinks of their parks...

Yea, but how many of those am I actualy going to go to? I am more about quality than quantity anyways.:)

Six flags also has lot's of events for passholders as well. They have a passholder day for season passholders only, and a bring a friend for $9.99 any day durring august. Here is a recent emil they sent me...

you can bring in a friend for only $9.99 plus tax any day durring the month of august.

And...

Six Flags Over Georgia wants to thank our best customers–Season Pass Holders– by opening the park for a night just for them! On Friday, August 20, the park will be open from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. for 2010 Season Pass Holders only. The park will NOT be open to the general public on this day.

They also give you a great coupon book with tons of discounts, and a free ticket for a friend.

That alone is lot's more than what I got from cedarfair.

Six flags also sends you free skip the line passes, or free sodas everytime you visit a six flag park.

ucbearcatmike at Pointbuzz found that Cedar Fair recently trademarked the name "Stratosoar".

Interesting.

Way better than "Canker Sore."

Mamoosh's avatar

Way better than "Helmut Store" too :)

LostKause's avatar

At first, as "Stratosoar" rattled around in my head, I though that it sucked, but, it quickly stuck itself into a "cool" place. That name would be awesome for a really tall swing around ride. :)

...I imagine a really nice looking logo as well.

Announce it already, Cedar Point.

Well that would fit one of the starflyer rides right? If so how does that bring back memories? That wouldnt get me to buy a season pass. I wasnt hoping for a coaster but this is honestly a boring ride.
