Unlike WWL, the non lift/drop portions of StR go only one speed... painfully slow.

Wrong.

I rode it twice on Thursday, and it was booking it through the troughs. At least, compared to the POV and previous reports. It's not Kennywood's post-dip, but it's fast enough.

My favorite log/flume ride is the Wilderness Adventure Log Ride at Ontario Place. It's got everything you want in a log ride - thematic elements, rapids, different paced sections, great views, and a big drop at the end.

POV video.

You can get a good idea of the layout by checking out the Adventure Island section of the park map.

Good views on Bing maps too.

Another video.

Amnesiac, that does look like a great flume, I especially love how you have one more zip section post big drop.

Looks like fun. Reminds me a little of Dorney's flume which I love.

Looks like a great ride. I am more interested in that ride, than I am shoot the rapids.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I will take a typical fiberglass flume over STR anyday.

Says the guy who doesn't have to pay to keep it running... :)

I pay for it everytime I go to cedar point.

Not if you have a season pass, and avoid eating in the park.

crazy horse's avatar

But I had to pay for that season pass, and it's not my fault that I don't eat in the park.

If your per-cap is less than the average, then you're costing the park money, at least from a certain perspective (that is, the park would make more money if you simply didn't visit at all).

So, you had to pay for your season pass, meaning that it's already paid for once. So, technically, every time you go to the park, you're not paying anything after the fact.

Yeah, what DJ said.

Actualy, I bought 3 season passes for my family.

I used to buy things in the park all the time. That was untill the quality of the food went way down, and the prices went way north.

I would be more than happy to spend more money in the park if this was not the case.

We still spend "some" money in the park. I am a skeeball junkie, and must play a dozen times every trip, and I still buy a souvinier every once and a while. And if I ever bring my daughter, I am forced to buy her an ice cream everytime.:)

My daughter has only been to the park twice this year, and probaly will not return. Her pass will not pay for itself, so they made money on her.

But how much have they lost on you?

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

That still doesn't mean that you're paying every time you go to the park. That's just simply not the case.

I'd like to believe that CF sets pass pricing to account for the fluctuations in use.

That is to say they don't 'make' or 'lose' money depending on how often you go. They make as much as they have determined they need to make simply because you bought the pass.

The losses parks incur from some season pass holders not spending money in the park can't be that much otherwise they would raise the price of the season pass.

Aww. Quit reading ahead. :)

This is exactly where I was headed with my last post.

By not spending in the park, you lower per-caps. The park needs so much from each guest. They either raise in-park and continue to let those willing to pay pick up the tab or they get it elsewhere - gate, parking, upcharges, passes etc.

Most likely some combination of all of the above.

Well, they do have some of the highest priced season passes out there, with the exception of Disney, and they are just slightly less than a busch season pass.

Really? I've always thought that CF/CP passes were fairly cheap, given the return on the investment. I mean, I'd never spend $300+ on one, but I'd definitely say there's a huge value there.

crazy horse's avatar

Value maybe, but price wise, they are one of the highest priced passes. I bought all my passes in the spring, and cedarfair really took a bite out of my wallet. I find six flags more exciting than cedarfair parks anyway, but that's a personal choice.

The six flags passes were right around $50, and I only had to put parking on 1 of the 3 passes. So it only cost me $190.00 for 3 season passes and a parking pass for six flags, opposed to the $480.00 I spent on cedarfair passes for the 3 of us. Each pass was $160.00. That's over 3 times more than a six flags season pass.

Now next year, we have decided not to buy cedarfair season passes, and just pay for a discounted ticket from AAA. We will probaly only go twice next year to a cedar fair park, and still not spend much money in the park. Why? Because what cedarfair has to offer me and my family, just does not seem like a good value for us. The money we used for cedarfair season passes, will now go to busch gardens. And we have no issue spending money at busch or Disney, because we get what we pay for. At cedarfair, I feel fleeced.

Even though the gate at Disney and busch are higher than cedarfair, I feel like I am getting my money worth.

Again, it's a personal choice, but we can't justify spending that much money on passes for a park chain that we have so many issues with.
